2022 Honda Passport

We’ll recommend the TrailSport trim for its distinctive styling and better off-road compatibility. It will offer most of the features of the Touring trim and add off-road specific features like 18-inch knobby tires, higher ground clearance of 8.1-inches, unique interior styling with orange accents and amber ambient lighting. Honda also recently unveiled the TrailSport Rugged Roads Project with many off-road specific features like all-terrain tires, Jsport lift kit, roof cross bars, stainless steel skid plates for oil pan and fuel tank, etc which clearly defines Honda’s future plan for the TrailSport trim.

The 2022 Honda Passport will be available in five trims: Sport, EX-L, Touring, TrailSport and Elite. The prices are expected to start at $35,000 and go up ro $46,000 for the top of the line Elite trim. No matter whichever trim you’ll choose, Honda will make sure to offer smart entry with push button start, LED headlights, rear seat reminder, 8-inch infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. It will also offer Honda Sensing safety tech as standard.  

The most interesting and exciting part of the 2022 Passport will be its TrailSport trim and available HDP package. The TrailSport trim will add the much needed versatility and off-road capability that was missing from Honda’s midsize SUV lineup. The HDP appearance package will also add distinctive features like redesigned grille, HDP specific wheels, blackened fender flares and HDP graphics at the rear quarter panel. All the trims will get larger exhaust outlet tips and redesigned bumpers. 

The 2022 Honda Passport is expected to deliver 20 MPG in the city, 25 MPG on the highway and 21 MPG in mixed driving conditions. With a fuel tank capacity of 19.5 gallons, it can travel up to 390 miles in the city, 487 miles on the highway and 409 miles in combined conditions. The AWD version of the 2022 Passport is expected to deliver slightly lesser gas mileage of 20 MPG in combined conditions. 

The Jeep Grand Cherokee is equipped with a larger fuel tank and offers similar fuel efficiency as the Passport. The Grand Cherokee offers the best range followed by Ford Edge, Volvo XC60 and Honda Passport. The Honda Passport is not very fuel efficient while the Ford Edge is the most fuel efficient in the comparison.

The 2022 Honda Passport will get the same interior as that of the 2021 model. The interior is quite reminiscent of the Ridgeline truck. The dashboard is minimalistic and ergonomic. The infotainment screen sits exactly in the center of the dashboard adjacent to the air conditioning vents. The front seats are expected to be comfortable and will be manually adjustable while being trimmed in cloth upholstery. The EX-L and above trims will get a 10-way power adjustable seat for the driver and 4-way power adjustable seat for the passenger. 

The second row seat will accommodate up to three passengers while offering good comfort and being supportive as well. The TrailSport trim gets orange contrast stitching on all the seats with TrailSport logo embroidered on front seat headrests and amber color ambient lighting as well. The rear seat will be 60/40 split and foldable for extending cargo capacity.  

However, the available cargo capacity of 41.2 cu-ft will be adequate for most usage scenarios. From the EX-L trim itself, features like heated front seats, one touch power moonroof, tri-zone climate control system, leather trimmed seats, power tailgate, etc will be standard. 

The Honda Passport and Ford Edge offer very similar interior dimensions. However, the Ford Edge takes a minor lead with better rear seat legroom. The Passport offers the highest cargo space in the comparison followed by Ford Edge, Volvo XC60 and Jeep Grand Cherokee. The Grand Cherokee and Volvo XC60 offer nearly equal interior dimensions but lose out to Honda Passport in terms of interior space.

All the trims of the Honda Passport will be equipped with a 8.0-inch infotainment touchscreen display residing in the center of the dashboard. It will include basic features like bluetooth connectivity for music streaming and calling, front and center console USB ports, 7-speaker audio system with 215-watts of output. For smartphone connectivity, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay will be available as standard. For updated features like navigation, better audio system, WiFi hotspot, wireless charging, you’ll need to opt for higher trims like Touring, TrailSport and Elite.

The 2022 Honda Passport has been facelifted, getting a redesigned front fascia along with a more chunkier grille. The LED headlamps are similar to its predecessor and have LED daytime running lamps. The front bumper is also redesigned to make it look more rugged and aggressive. The two fog lamps are embedded in the front bumper and look sleeker. 

The TrailSport trim will get distinctive exterior features like uniquely styled bumpers, new grille design and orange colored TrailSport badges on the outside. It will also get 18-inch alloy wheels with TrailSport specific knobby tires.The ground clearance is increased for all AWD spec models to 8.1-inch for better off-road compatibility. 

The Honda HDP appearance package will add distinctive features like redesigned grille, HDP specific wheels, blackened fender flares and HDP graphics at the rear quarter panel. The side profile is very similar to the outgoing model and the rear profile gets bigger dual circular exhaust finishers and redesigned rear bumper 

The Honda Passport is longer, wider and taller than its rivals. All other SUVs offer a higher ground clearance than the Passport. In AWD version, the Passport offers higher ground clearance that is comparable to its rivals. Surprisingly, the Passport sits on a shorter wheelbase but offers higher cargo capacity than its competition. Some of the standout exterior features are:

The 2022 Honda Passport will be based on the outgoing model with some exterior changes. So we expect it to perform on par with the 2021 model in terms of overall safety. The NHTSA has given it an overall 5-star safety rating in various tests performed by it. The Jeep Grand Cherokee is one of the favorites in the segment. Not just because of the fact that it is an American brand but because of the fact that the Grand Cherokee has been such a great SUV in the segment over all these years.

But, the Jeep falls back in most aspects when compared with the Honda. The Passport is more powerful, spacious on the inside, more cargo capacity, and has lots of features along with being very safe and reliable than the Grand Cherokee.
