Overview

Into its second model year, the 2022 Genesis GV80 is majorly unchanged. The 2022 GV80 is a perfect two-row or three-row luxury SUV with a classy design, and opulent interior with luxurious amenities. Driving the Genesis GV80 strikes the right balance between driver engagement and fuel economy. Though the GV80 may not match the handling of the BMW X5 or Porsche Cayenne, this flagship Genesis snaps to 60 mph in 5.3 seconds with its potent twin-turbo V6. The 2022 GV80's price is pegged to start from $50,200 for the Standard package with the 300 hp turbocharged (2.5T) engine with RWD and the price goes up to $74,200 for the new Prestige Matte trim with a twin-turbo 3.5L V6 engine with AWD.

Inside the 2022 GV80, you will have premium materials and standard seating for five occupants. The Advanced+ trim adds the third row, taking the seating capacity to seven. For the price, the Genesis GV80 scores big on technology. There's a large 14.5-inch infotainment touchscreen on top of the dash. Furthermore, the IIHS Top Safety Pick+ award-winning safety tech also comes as standard fitment. The closes competitors of the 2022 Genesis GV80 include the luxury cars such as BMW X5, Audi Q7, and the Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class

Buying Advice

The 2022 Genesis GV80 offers a lot of options to choose from with varying features to choose from. We would recommend picking up the 2.5T Advanced trim as it offers more creature comforts, better safety features, and upgraded infotainment features like 21-speaker Lexicon Premium Audio System. Though this trim is perfect for most, if you want more power, you can pick up the 3.5T Standard trim as well since it offers the perfect cross between upscale features and powerful performance.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

The Genesis GV80 takes an all-inclusive spa-day approach to its luxury SUV.- Edmunds

The 2022 Genesis GV80 retains the same winning specs and features from its launch last year. Available for sale in 8 trims with the MSRP starting from $50,200 onwards. Depending on the trim you choose, you get the option between the 300 hp 2.5T engine and the 375 hp 3.5T V6 engine. For its price, the interior is uber-luxurious, spacious, and packed with features throughout.

Additionally, it also packs the same award-winning safety features that saved Tiger Woods in his near-fatal crash. Dubbed as a mini-Bentley, the cost of ownership will definitely be lower than most owing to its Korean roots. If long-term ownership is not your thing, the Genesis GV80 offers lease deals starting from $699/month for 36 months after a $4,995 downpayment.

Buying Advice
8.5/10

The 2022 Genesis GV80 offers a lot of options to choose from with varying features to choose from. We would recommend picking up the 2.5T Advanced trim as it offers more creature comforts, better safety features, and upgraded infotainment features like 21-speaker Lexicon Premium Audio System. Though this trim is perfect for most, if you want more power, you can pick up the 3.5T Standard trim as well since it offers the perfect cross between upscale features and powerful performance.

Features
8.0/10

The 2022 Genesis GV80 is available in a total of 8 trim levels with multiple configurations. The GV80 packages include Standard, Advanced, Prestige, and new-for-2022 Prestige Matte. Most GV80 models come with a standard 300 hp turbo-4 engine dubbed as 2.5T, paired with either RWD or AWD drivetrain. The sportier versions of the GV80 use the more powerful V6 engine with standard AWD and are designated as 3.5T models. The prices for the entry-level two-row GV80 starts from $50,200 for the Standard 2.5T RWD model. The three-row GV80 is available in Advanced+ trim only that begins at $68,000 with a V6 and AWD as standard. The prices max out at $74,200 for the new range-topping Prestige Matte trim.

The 2022 Genesis GV80 3.5T versions are only available with AWD. Fuel Economy
4.0/10

The GV80 should meet its fuel economy estimates if driven with a bit of restraint.- Edmunds

The EPA estimates the fuel economy of the 2022 Genesis GV80 with a four-cylinder engine at 21 MPG in the city and 25 MPG on the highway. the V6 drops the ratings to 18 mpg and 23 mpg respectively.

Both of them come hooked up to a 21.1-gallon fuel tank which allows you to get an overall range of 464 miles with the 2.5T and 422 miles with the 3.5T.

Compared to the rest, the Genesis GV80 offers the best MPG figures overall but falls short in the fuel tank capacity it provides. The GLE-Class offers comparative figures to the GV80 with better fuel tank capacity. The Q7 and X5 offer similar MPG figures and hence tie in the last place.

Interior
9.9/10

The best thing about the GV80 may be its interior.- MotorTrend

The interior of the 2022 Genesis GV80 is an absolute stunner when you catch the first glimpse of it. The design retains most of its unique aspects when the SUV first came out in 2021, like the burled wood trimmings, metal accents, knurled machine finish on the switchgear, and a rotary dial resembling a jewel. The whole interior layout feels symmetric and elegant and is wrapped in leather and wood trimmings.

In terms of seating, you get ample seating space for 5 people as standard. The only trim of the GV80 with 3-row seating is the 3.5T AWD Advanced+ model, which starts at $68,000.The seats get power adjustability, heating, and ventilation depending on the trim level. The front is spacious for drivers of all sizes and so is the rear. If you pick up the third-row seating, be prepared to use it only for kids or for shorter people whilst losing the massive 34.9 cu-ft of cargo space.

The Audi Q7 is the only ride that offers 3-rows of seating as standard while the GLE-Class offers the most space in both rows. The BMW X5 offers the least space in its cabin but a comparable cargo space as the GV80. Speaking of in-car entertainment, the 2022 Genesis GV80 comes with a 14.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system along with a 12.3-inch digital driver display. The standard sound system is a 12-speaker setup which is decent.

Upgrade to the Advanced trim levels, and you can get a 21-speaker Lexicon Premium Audio system as standard fitment and turn your junior Bentley into a discotheque. The system also comes with all of the latest techs like 3D Navigation, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, Bluetooth, WiFi, USB, and voice control. The UI has a slight learning curve but is easy when you get used to it. Some of the standout interior features of the GV80 are:

  • Power adjustable front seats with heating and ventilation
  • Leather upholstery on the seats and steering wheel
  • Heated and Multifunction steering wheel with power tilt and telescopic adjustment
  • Tri-zone automatic climate control
  • 14.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system
  • 12.3-inch digital driver display with 3D display
  • 12/21-speaker sound system
  • Power sunroof
  • Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Amazon Alexa
  • Bluetooth, WiFi, and USB

Exterior
9.9/10

The exterior shape, too, is very elegant, swoopy, and swept back.- Car And Driver

Though the 2022 Genesis GV80 isn't getting any changes this year, it still manages to turn a lot of heads owing to its stately, unique, and stylish design. You get a massive crest-shaped grille in the front along with the slit LED headlamps with LED DRLs which give it that edgy look. From the side, the smooth flowing roofline and the 21-inch alloy wheels come into full display.

Upgrade to the 2022 Genesis GV80 3.5T Advanced Plus, and you get 22-inch alloy wheels as standard and the third row of seating. Nevertheless, the 8.1-inch ground clearance is still ample enough to wade over most surfaces with ease. The rear is as domineering as the front and bears a stark resemblance to the G80 sedan which launched earlier this year.

Though it looks quite burly, the GV80 is one of the most compactly built rides in the lineup. The Audi Q7 is the exact opposite with huge dimensions and the lowest ground clearance. The BMW X5 looks "puffy" and certainly packs the weight as well, while the GLE-Class is the shortest rival of the lot. Some of the notable features of the exterior are:

  • LED quad-setup headlamps
  • LED DRLs
  • LED brake lights
  • Chrome grille
  • Dual exhaust tips
  • Chrome window trim
  • Power-folding mirrors

Safety
8.0/10

This is one of the Institute’s top-rated midsize luxury SUVs. The GV80 aced all six IIHS crashworthiness tests.- IIHS

The 2022 Genesis GV80 remains unchanged in terms of the safety features it offers as standard. So, the safety ratings from the 2021 MY can suffice. The 2021 GV80 got a perfect 5-star safety rating in the NHTSA crash tests. It also got an overall rating of "Good" from the IIHS along with the award for the Top Safety Pick+.

If these do not seem enough, the Genesis GV80 has already proven how safe it is when Tiger Woods survived his fatal crash owing to the safety tech that the ride comes with as standard. With top-of-the-line safety features and driver assistance tech, the 2022 Genesis GV80 is one of the safest cars in the business. The following are the notable safety features:

  • Front & Rear Cross-Traffic Alert
  • Front & Rear Parking Sensors
  • Rain-Sensing Wipers
  • Driver Attention Warning
  • Pedestrian Detection
  • 3D Surround-View Camera
  • Automatic Emergency Braking
  • Adaptive Cruise Control
  • Remote Park Assist
  • Rear Collision Mitigation
  • Blind Spot Monitoring

Competition
7.0/10

2022 Genesis GV80 vs 2022 BMW X5

The 2022 BMW X5 is simply the safest and most powerful ride in this lineup that mostly justifies its high price tag. The Genesis GV80 on the other hand is more fuel-efficient in its base avatar and offers better interior space. The BMW X5, however, does not mince words either with its upscale cabin, equivalent dimensions, and meaner road presence. Overall, if you can spend the extra bucks, the 2022 BMW X5 is definitely worth it.

2022 Genesis GV80 vs 2022 Audi Q7

The 2022 Audi Q7 is the most stylishly aggressive-looking vehicle in this lineup. The biggest upside that the Q7 offers for its higher price is three rows of seating as standard. Furthermore, the Audi Q7 is underpowered on paper but offers the best acceleration time in the real world. The MPG figures are also comparable and so are its overall luxury and tech on offer. So, it boils down to brand preference between these two rivals.

2022 Genesis GV80 vs 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class

The 2021 Mercedes Benz GLE Class is simply the most luxurious ride in this lineup. Despite costing more than the GV80, it produces lesser power and is slower in accelerating off the line. The MPG figures are also behind Genesis. Though the dimensions of the GV80 are similar, it offers slightly more space, better cargo space, and almost equivalent levels of luxury. Here, the scales tip in the favor of the 2022 Genesis GV80.

Final Verdict
9.0/10

The 2022 Genesis GV80 does not bring any changes to the winning design and features it got post its release in 2021. With 2 engine options, a luxurious, spacious, and comfortable interior, and award-winning safety tech on board, it offers a bigger-sized SUV in a smaller sized price tag of 50 grand. So, if you want an SUV that offers more for less in almost every aspect, then the 2022 Genesis GV80 is definitely worth buying.
