Overview

The 2022 Audi Q5 is all set to be carried forward with just a few minor updates. This is after the 2021 Q5 got a complete redesign including bigger dimensions. The 2022 Q5 comes with the previously optional S Line exterior trim, which also now adds aluminum front door sills and new 18-inch alloy wheels as standard. Moreover, the changes for the 2022 Q5 include the addition of a power-adjustable steering column with the Premium Plus trim, while the base Q5 Premium trim gets standard 18-inch wheel designs.

2022 Audi Q5 Buying Advice

Audi made a few changes to the 2020 Q5, adding plenty of standard and optional features to the mix. Further, the 2020 Q5 paved the way for the new updated exterior design language that we see in the 2022 Q5. If you're further considering an even older used Audi Q5, the 2017 Q5 is certainly competent.

For 2022, Audi also adds a new Black Optic package, which now gets 20-inch wheels with all-season tires, and a black exterior treatment. There is also the 55 TFSI plug-in hybrid model, which is good for a combined 362 hp. The 2022 Q5 interior sees the same features as the previous year and is still as luxurious. It faces direct competition from the likes of Mercedes-Benz GLC Class, BMW X3, and Volvo XC60

2022 Audi Q5 for sale

On sale now, the 2022 Audi Q5 comes at a starting manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) of $43,300 for the base Premium trim. Leasing the 2022 Audi Q5 is certainly not a cumbersome task, as lease payments of an average of $698/ month can also be had, for a 36-month period. This excludes $2,000 that is to be paid at signing.

Buying Advice

The Premium Plus trim is well-equipped with significant features and goes for our recommendation. Added with the Convenience package, you can add more technology and safety features such as adaptive cruise control, surround-view camera system, and lane-keeping assist.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

The 2022 Audi Q5 comes in three trims and prices start at $43,300, before the $1,095 destination charges. The Audi Q5 sees upgrades that are mainly cosmetic, as a major upgrade happened in the 2021 model year. The Q5 will continue to offer a 261 hp 2.0L turbocharged inline-4 directing power to the Quattro system and the Q5 can also tow up to 4,400 pounds.

The interior of the 2022 Audi Q5 features leather upholstery, heated power-adjustable seats, and three-zone climate control for comfort. The Audi Q5 gets a reliability rating of 71/100 by J.D. Power, which puts it behind the likes of the Porsche Macan and BMW X3. Expect the 5-year cost of ownership to be around the $59,800 mark, which again is comparatively higher than

Buying Advice

Priced at an MSRP of $43,300, we recommend getting the 2022 Audi Q5 Premium trim which comes with plenty of premium and convenient features like leather upholstery, 18-inch wheels, and the 10.1-inch infotainment system that has navigation, wireless Apple CarPlay, and a 10-speaker sound system. Additionally, you get the new S-line exterior package so your car does look slightly sportier. We would recommend getting the rear-side thoracic airbags and the panoramic sunroof too, which are optional and come at a certain premium.

Features
7.0/10

The 2022 Audi Audi Q5 has quite a few changes for the 2022 model but, it carries forward the same three trims from the 2021 model - Premium, Premium Plus, and Prestige. Prices for the 2022 Q5 start at an MSRP of $43,300 and will continue to rise to $54,800 for the Prestige trim.

All trims will continue to be powered by a 2.0L turbocharged inline-4 engine called 45 TFSI. Along with this is also the Quattro system that will also come as standard equipment. For the 45 TFSI, the exterior will feature the previously optional S line exterior kit and a new set of wheels on the base trim.

Fuel Economy
4.0/10

The 2022 Audi Q5 comes with no mechanical changes from the 2021 model and will continue to offer 23 MPG in the city, 28 MPG on the highway, and a combined 25 MPG. The Audi Q5 comes equipped with a standard 18.5-gallon fuel tank which allows it to get a combined 462 miles of range. The Q5 PHEV (55 TFSI e) offers a combined 27 MPG.

The Audi Q5 offers the most combined driving range of 462 miles thanks to its high MPG figures and large fuel tank. The BMW X3 which comes with the same combined MPG offers a lesser range thanks to its smaller fuel tank. The Volvo offers the next best range of 451 miles as it comes with a large fuel tank but slightly lesser fuel economy.

Interior
8.0/10

The Audi Q5's cabin is sharp and hits the mark for the luxury compact SUV class - Cars.USNews

The interior of the 2022 Audi Q5 comes with two changes - it gets front door sill inlays with the S logo on them, this is thanks to the exterior's S-line body kit and the Premium Plus trim gets a power-adjustable steering wheel column. The interior features heated 8-way power-adjustable front row sports seats and leather upholstery in multiple colors. The 2022 Audi Q5 also features tri-zone automatic climate control as standard.

The Premium Plus trim comes with the available option of Nappa Leather and also a warm-weather package that adds seat ventilation - these are standard on the Prestige trim. The Audi Q5 comes with a trunk capacity of 25.9 cu-ft. In terms of infotainment, the 2022 Audi Q5 will come equipped with a 10.1-touchscreen running the MMI interface that is mounted on top of the dashboard, and it does look like an afterthought considering the Audi line-up has it neatly integrated into the dashboard.

The top-end Prestige trim also includes that and also comes with a heads-up display. The Audi Q5 comes with adequate space in both rows but offers lesser trunk space than the BMW X3 and Volvo XC60. The XC60 offers class-leading passenger and cargo space which is unmatched in this comparison. The Mercedes GLC on the other hand struggles in terms of the trunk space while the X3 has a tighter rear seat leagroom.

Exterior
6.0/10

The 2022 Audi Q5 does come with a few changes to the exterior styling by getting the S line exterior and also newly designed 18-inch wheels. The rest of it has been carried forward from the 2021 model which got minor adjustments to the exterior. It features a single frame honeycomb grille (as it now gets the S line exterior) with LED headlights on either side.

It also features aluminum roof rails, a roof spoiler, heated side mirrors, LED taillights, and dual exhaust tips. The Q5 Premium Plus trim gets 19-inch wheels and a panoramic sunroof, and lastly, the prestige trim gets Matrix Design LED headlights. The optional Black Optics package available on the Premium Plus and higher trim comes with new 20-inch wheels and black accents. That said, if you are looking for a bit more style there is the 2022 Audi Q5 Sportback model.

  • LED Taillights with Dynamic Turn Signals
  • Aluminum roof rails and exterior trim

Safety
8.0/10

The IIHS has not yet crash-tested the 2022 Audi Q5 but has given the 2021 Q5 an overall "Good" rating along with the "Top Safety Pick+" award. However, the NHTSA has also given the 2021 Q5 an overall 5-star safety rating, out of a possible 5-stars, in its crash-testing. It certainly turns out to be one of the best SUVs in the segment when it comes to outright safety. So we can expect similar ratings from the 2022 Audi Q5 as well. Further, the 2022 Audi Q5 impresses its customer base with the latest in terms of both active and passive safety features.

Here’s a list of the notable safety suite features of the 2022 Q5:

  • Electronic Stability Control (ESC)
  • ABS And Driveline Traction Control
  • Forward-collision warning
  • Rear Cross-Traffic Alert
  • Automated emergency braking
  • Audi parking system plus Front And Rear Parking Sensors
  • Lane Departure Warning
  • Tire Pressure Monitoring System

Competition
8.0/10

2022 Audi Q5 vs 2022 BMW X3

The BMW X3 comes with lesser power and performance but the same capacity in towing. The BMW X3 also offers better MPG on the highway but comes with a smaller fuel tank offering a lesser driving range. The X3 does offer more cargo space than the Q5. However, you can have the X3 with RWD as well, which is cheaper than the Audi Q5.

2022 Audi Q5 vs 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class

The higher price of the GLC does not justify the lower towing capacity and acceleration performance, but Mercedes does offer a much more supple ride. Also, the higher reliability ratings and better resale value put the GLC back in the competition. However, the long list of standard features from the base trim and the spacious cabin make the Q5 the victor in this comparison.

2022 Audi Q5 vs 2022 Volvo XC60

The Volvo XC60 like the Mercedes-Benz GLC comes with less power, performance, and towing capacity. The fuel economy offered is less but it does offer a similar driving range thanks to the larger fuel tank. It also offers more cargo space than the Audi Q5. However, it is priced similar to the Volvo XC60 with the AWD drivetrain, but costs less than the Q5 when equipped with FWD.

Final Verdict

The 2022 Audi Q5 does come with quite a few changes compared to the 2021 model which brings more standard features even though this time it is focused on cosmetic updates. However, the 2022 Audi Q5 does come with a good amount of space and comfort on the interior along with an impressive performance quotient which is better than the competition. Along with this, there is the Quattro system that gives the Q5 unique driving dynamics, making it a good car to buy.
