Overview

The all-new 2022 Genesis GV70 luxury compact SUV has one main goal: Genesis wants to persuade first-time luxury consumers that there are other options for comfortable family utility and strong driving qualities besides the well-liked BMW X3, the Audi Q5, and Mercedes-Benz GLC. It incorporates the comfort, technology, and build quality of the bigger GV80 and adds performance that is specifically suited to its size. The Korean manufacturer's reputation for dependability and customer service should add to the GV70's appeal. It also has a more youthful and attractive visage than its older German counterparts. Both a twin-turbocharged 3.5L V-6 and a turbocharged 2.5L 4-cylinder will be available as options. All GV70 vehicles come standard with 8-speed automatic transmission

Buying Advice

Although a more potent 3.5L V6 is a possibility, the 2.5L inline-4 should be sufficient for the majority of duties. The 2.5T Advance trim will be a fantastic purchase. You can obtain heated steering wheels, leather upholstery, ambient cabin lighting, and a range of driver-assistance features, like remote parking, by picking this variant. The Advance trim also comes with the Select model's features, such as 19-inch alloy wheels, a panoramic sunroof, and a 16-speaker Lexicon audio system.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

The GV70 is a valued participant in the competitive market for premium compact SUVs because it follows the standard Genesis strategy of packing even entry-level models full of luxury equipment. The GV70 has its unique character even though it shares several visual elements with its bigger GV80 cousin. The dual-stripe headlamp clusters and front grilles of the two SUVs are similar-looking, but the GV70 distinguishes out thanks to its sloped roofline and wagon-like back end, which emphasize its length. In the short period since the company was founded, Genesis has continuously increased the quality, performance, and refinement of its vehicles. The 2022 GV70 is a blatant illustration of how it can compete with the German top guns.

Features
9.9/10

The 2022 Genesis GV70 is divided roughly into two groups depending on the engines they each have, and the car is available in seven trim levels segregated by the features they carry. The starting price for the base 2.5T trim is anticipated to be $42,595, while the price for the top-of-the-line 3.5T Sport Prestige model is $63,545. The base trim of the new GV70 is loaded with value as Genesis always does. It has the least opulent appearance of the group because it is the only trim without leather seats, but the SUV is equipped with the standard all-wheel drive and cutting-edge entertainment and safety technology. The most advanced infotainment and driver assistance technologies may surprise you to discover themselves in the lowest trim. The 14.5-inch infotainment system includes integrated navigation, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay. The dashboard also has a 9-speaker audio system and an 8-inch digital cluster with analog meters on either side. Dual USB ports are also included as standard in the first and second rows. The highest trim, which includes Nappa leather upholstery and carbon fiber trim for the interior, is available for those who prefer high-end materials in their vehicle.

Release Date

Genesis announced the GV70 coming in new for 2022 and did roll out the images early this year. The new compact SUV is all set to launch in the summer of 2021.

Fuel Economy
4.0/10

The most economical variant is the 4-cylinder turbocharged GV70, which gets 22 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the expressway. The twin-turbo V6 gets 19 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway according to the EPA ratings. The statistics may somewhat decline for those choosing the larger 21-inch wheels, but it shouldn't significantly lower the standard ratings. These figures, however, can only be reached by driving efficiently, as often increasing the throttle and trying to put out more power can result in increased fuel consumption.

The GV70's fuel economy may be on the lower side, but it is not much different from what its competitors provide. The Mercedes-Benz is the vehicle that comes close to matching the numbers generated by the Genesis but on the expressway, the German offers a somewhat better gas mileage. Both the Audi and the BMW get practically comparable gas mileage, but the Audi has a bigger gas tank, giving it the benefit overall. The only vehicle that can travel more than 460 miles on a single tank of gas is the Audi, while the Genesis may require a fuel stop far earlier in the trip.

Interior
9.0/10

More daringly designed than its larger twin the GV80, the GV70's cabin maintains the exterior's sweeping outlines for a seamless appearance. High-quality materials have been used to line the interior, and the glass shifter's elegantly knurled knob radiates luxury. While the GV70 has extra space to provide back-seat passengers than its sedan cousin, the G70, it's still not very big. The comfort of the GV70 makes it a wonderful SUV, in large part. The highly adjustable front seats come with choices for heating, ventilation, and massage. Likewise, soft and highly reclining cushions are available on the back seats. For climate control, there is an accessible dedicated touchscreen. Both the heated steering wheel and the power of the seat heating and cooling are practically unrivaled. A quiet cabin with dual-pane windows that greatly reduce outside noise completes the luxurious experience. On highly textured roads, only very minimal road noise could be detected.

In terms of both passenger and cargo space, the Genesis GV70 is among the roomiest cars. Although the Audi offers slightly more room in the back row for the knees, the Genesis is still a highly comfortable SUV. BMW has a problem with back passenger legroom, but it makes up for it with a huge 62.7 cubic feet of cargo space, which places it in the first spot. The GV70 comes next, and it is this harmony between passenger capacity and luggage space that makes the Genesis offering so useful. The Mercedes-Benz's cargo area is rated to be below average, therefore those who choose it will be dissatisfied.

Some standout interior features on the 2022 Genesis GV70 include

  • Customizable ambient lighting
  • Three-zone automatic climate control
  • Ventilated front seats
  • Simulated leather/ Nappa leather upholstery
  • Powered and heated steering wheel
  • Driver seat memory setting

How intuitive is the 2022 Genesis GV70 infotainment system?

Every GV70 includes a crisp 14.5-inch touchscreen as standard equipment. It can be controlled via a concave dial in the center console, additional steering wheel controls, voice commands, or touch. It takes some time to comprehend the submenus logic on the long, slim touchscreen because there are so many of them. Up to eight panels can be seen on the home screen, each with a separate submenu. Although Genesis gives the driver discretion over even the most intrusive driver-assist functions, comprehending the submenu logic requires some work. The map and navigation display can either take up the entire plane or can be divided into two equal displays. The primary disadvantage is the lack of wireless Apple CarPlay, which when connected occupies two-thirds of the split screen display.

Some of the standout infotainment features on the 2022 Genesis GV70 are

  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • 14.5-inch touchscreen display
  • 8-inch digital instrument cluster
  • Wireless charging pad
  • Onboard navigation
  • 16-speaker Lexicon sound system

Exterior
8.0/10

The two-lined quad lamps have been positioned just above the renowned crest grille, which takes design cues from the Genesis logo to underline the athleticism of the SUV. Skid plates are included in the bumper bottoms, which further enhances the SUV's imposing image. The elegant parabolic line, which ascends the side of the SUV above the quad lamps, stands in stark contrast to the robust rear fenders. The descending C-pillar's chrome line and the GV70's sleek, coupe-like roofline serve to draw attention to its distinctive characteristics. Like the headlights, the taillights are made of the same ultra-thin, two-lined quad lamps, and the location of all functional parts in the bumper adds to the vehicle's strikingly simple and elegant appearance. On the rear, the GV70 features a body-colored diffuser, a vertically flared muffler, and a bumper with a G-Matrix pattern, among other small design cues that enhance its dynamic appearance.

The Genesis looks much sleeker than its rivals as it sits lower to the ground in comparison. This lower height might make it slightly uneasy for taller passengers to get in and out. The highest ground clearance is however offered by the Audi but it doesn’t matter much as none of these vehicles are meant to go off-road. The Audi also happens to be the lightest vehicle, followed by Genesis in second place. The BMW is the heaviest SUV and also the tallest, giving it the appearance of a much bigger vehicle than it actually is.

Some of the standout exterior features include

  • Crest-shaped grille
  • 18/19/21-inch wheels
  • Dual exhaust muffler
  • Hands-free tailgate
  • LED quad headlights and taillamps
  • G-matrix bumper

Safety
8.0/10

Between the front seats, one of the eight airbags, which Genesis boasts to be a segment first, activates to prevent occupants from hitting the console or one another. As standard safety features, the vehicle comes equipped with automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection, active lane control, blind-spot monitors, adaptive cruise control that brakes at stop signs, parking sensors, and automatic high beams. The vehicle hasn't been subjected to any crash tests from NHTSA considering it's a new release for 2022. The SUV, on the other hand, has earned the "Top Safety Pick Plus" label from IIHS, indicating that NHTSA would be justified in giving it a 5-star rating.

Some of the standout safety features available with the 2022 Genesis GV70 are

  • Forward collision mitigation
  • Lane-keeping assistance
  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Rear cross-traffic warning
  • Surround-view monitor
  • Evasivesteering assist

2022 Genesis GV70 vs 2022 BMW X3

The Korean newcomer wins in terms of aesthetics since it is a more visually appealing and spacious spot to spend time in. Considering that it is completely equipped while the BMW still has unchecked option boxes, the value aspect shouldn't be ignored either. With those savings, a beautiful family vacation may be purchased. However, the X3 is the driver's choice in this situation because of its powerful drivetrain and superb steering. Despite having significantly less space than the newcomer, it nonetheless has extremely sophisticated technology for its age.

2022 Genesis GV70 vs 2022 Audi Q5

With its well-equipped, fun-to-drive cars and SUVs, Genesis has been creating waves in every market, while the Audi Q5 has been a regular award winner for a while. We had to choose with the Audi even though the 2022 Genesis GV70 boasts a selection of engines, premium materials, and engaging handling because the price gap isn't that substantial. The interior of the Audi has magnificent leather and wood inlays, and there is a level of refinement and beauty about it that only comes with practice.

2022 Genesis GV70 vs 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLC Class

Given the significant price difference between the two SUVs and the fact that the Mercedes-Benz GLC lags behind the Genesis in most of the areas, the GV70 is clearly the better purchase. The Mercedes' interior is slightly more refined, but the Genesis is in no way lacking. The Korean SUV has a lengthy list of standard features that raises its value further.

Final Verdict

The Genesis GV70, a newcomer to a field with numerous established players, has succeeded in making its point very clear. This high-end SUV has succeeded in offering upscale amenities at a price that is generally attainable for most people, stealing some of the rival's potential customers. Based on the larger GV80, Genesis was able to sidestep the drawbacks of creating an entirely new car, enabling the brand to establish itself. To obtain the greatest value for your money, we advise purchasing the Genesis, but the BMW X3 is the one to choose if you need your luxury SUV to deliver drive engagement and enjoyment.
