Overview

With an exceptionaly luxurious interior on offer for a bargain price, the award-winning 2022 Genesis G70 is back as part of the compact luxury segment. For 2022 however, the Genesis G70 adds features like a standard 10.3-inch touchscreen display, it comes with a new front and rear design, and some interior tweaks. Another noticeable change made to the 2022 Genesis G70 is the discontinuation of the manual transmission. On the specs front, both the 252 hp Inline-4 and the 365 hp V6 engines are available as the previous MYs. Both the exterior and interior styling has been redone to be in line with the looks of the all-new Genesis G80 sedan and the all-new Genesis GV80 SUV. Check out the latest pictures here.

The price of the 2022 Genesis G70 luxury sedan will start at an MSRP of 37,775 for the 2.0T trims and $42,350 for 3.3T trims both of which are for the RWD versions. In comparison, the AWD version of the same costs $2,100 more over the base MSRP. For sale in over 5 trims. Also for the year, there is a new G70 3.3T Launch Edition trim priced at $52,500. While if you want to lease a 2022 G70, it starts at a premium of $439 per month payable for 36 months, with $3,699 payable at signing. For that price, the 2022 Genesis G70 goes against the likes of Acura TLXLexus IS 300, and BMW 3-Series.

Buying Advice

There is no denying the fact the 3.3-liter twin-turbo V6 engine powered trims are the most sought-after here. Thus we recommend going for the Standard 3.3T trim to get a better engine and more standard features like heated and ventilated front seats, power-adjustable steering column, Lexicon premium surround system, etc as compared to the base model.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

The 2022 Genesis G70 is the entry-level offering in the sedan line-up of Genesis, with the prices starting at $37,775. The 2022 G70 sedan offers two engine options, the base being a 252 hp, 2.0-liter turbo-four motor while the other option is a 365 hp, 3.3-liter twin-turbo V6 motor. The former is referred to as 2.0T and is available on the first two trims only while the latter is known as 3.3T and is available on all five trims.

The base engine offers decent performance but the twin-turbo V6 is the real deal in terms of performance and also because it undercuts all the German rivals with similar engine options in terms of pricing. While the luxurious interior and striking exterior look make sure you aren't going for a bargain brand. That said, the real flex of any Genesis car, and in this case, is the long 10-year or 100,000 miles drivetrain warranty which ensures peace of mind. If that's not compelling enough then read our in-depth to find how the G70 stacks against its rivals.

Buying Advice

There is no denying the fact the Standard trim is the most sought-after here. Thus, we recommend going for the 2022 Genesis G70 Standard 3.3T trim, at least, to get a better V6 engine and more standard features like heated and ventilated front seats, power-adjustable steering column, and Lexicon premium surround system.

Features
9.0/10

The 2022 Genesis G70 will be available in five trims, including the newly-added Launch Edition. The pricing starts at $37,775 for the base Standard 2.0T trim and goes up to $54,500 for the topmost Launch Edition 3.3T AWD trim. This limited-run model will be getting the 3.3-liter twin-turbo V6 engine, with either RWD or AWD configuration, as standard. The Genesis G70 2.0T trims get a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 engine while all the 3.3T get the 3.3-liter twin-turbo V6 engine as well. All the trims are RWD as standard, however, AWD can be added by paying $2,000-$2,100 extra.

Fuel Economy
4.0/10

As the powertrains are not going to change, the 2022 Genesis G70 will boast similar fuel economy figures as the current model year. The base G70 engine equipped with RWD will offer around 21/31 MPG for city/highway driving and around 25 MPG for combined driving. The AWD results in a slight decrease, as the AWD G70 returns 20/28/23 MPG for city/highway/combined driving respectively. The twin-turbo V6 engine sips more fuel and returns 18/27/21 MPG for city/highway/combined driving in that order.

The 3.3T AWD version gets around 17/25/20 MPG for city/highway/combined driving, respectively. The sedan also gets a 15.9-gallon fuel tank, which makes up for almost 379 miles of the combined range. As for the rivals, the Lexus IS 300 and the Genesis G70 offer the lowest fuel economy, but the Lexus beats the G70 in terms of range owing to its bigger fuel tank of 17.4-gallon. The BMW 3 Series, on the other hand, offers the best fuel economy of 26/36/30 mpg in city/highway/combined, respectively.

Interior
6.0/10

The updated 2022 Genesis G70 presents its occupants with an even neater and more luxurious interior. The cabin is upscale and fitted with upscale materials everywhere. Genesis has also done a great job in designing the G70's interior layout. The dashboard looks modern and satisfies the aristocrat in you. The infotainment screen sticks out from the center of the dashboard, and directly below it are the AC vents and the climate control buttons and dials. The passenger’s side of the dash is covered in smooth leather trim customized to your needs.

Build quality is excellent. The quilted stitching pattern is done to perfection and enhances the luxury quotient of the car. As standard, you get full leather seats with gorgeous trims and a sporty appeal to them. The base version features a 12-way power adjustable driver seat with 4-way power lumbar support. The passenger’s seat is also 8-way power-adjustable.

The higher trim comes with heated and ventilated front seats with a 16-way power-adjustable driver seat with 4-way power lumbar support, power side bolsters, and cushion extension. It also comes with a 12-way power passenger seat w/ 4-way lumbar support.

A leather-wrapped steering wheel with manual tilt and telescoping makes finding the perfect driving position an easy task. Space is also not an issue in the front row, but in the rear row, legroom can be a bit tight. The front row is quite spacious for all of the sedans, but when it comes to the rear row, all of them are cramped except for the BMW 330i. Out of the other two, the Lexus IS 300 has the smallest room at the back, while the other offers some sort of relief to its occupants. Coming to the cargo area the G70 has the smallest 10.5 cubic feet of cargo space. The Acura TLX sports the biggest cargo of 13.5 cubic feet, followed by the BMW 330i with 13.0 cubic feet.

The infotainment system also offers a 10.25-inch standard screen across models, with a host of useful standard features. Some of them include Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, SiriusXM radio, HD radio, HD Traffic, Genesis Connected Services Internet Access, USB ports, 15 high-efficiency speakers with Quantum Logic surround sound, and Clari-Fi music restoration, etc. The system is easy to use and mostly intuitive.

Interior Features on offer are:

  • Leather upholstery
  • Power-adjustable front seats
  • Dual-zone automatic climate control
  • Wireless charging pad
  • USB ports and AUX input jack

Exterior
8.0/10

The biggest change coming to the 2022 Genesis G70 is the way it looks. Genesis has designed a new, modern, and more opulent design at the front. The grille is now of a different shape than the outgoing model. The outlines meet at a sharp angle at the lower end of the grille and below it is another grille. The sides also have big vents at the bottom. Also, the headlights have been changed and now it is split into two parts.

The two parts are symmetrical to each other and look very unique. Both the headlights are sleek and mirror each other perfectly. Also, the hood has strong creases. The sides of the Genesis capture its essence with a strong muscular line flowing through the doors. The rear end has also been changed to fit the style, and the taillights also received a little upgrade. The car looks sleek and long from the sides, and the lower ground clearance gives it a distinctly sporty feel.

The dimensions of all the sedans are more or less in the same ballpark except for the Acura TLX which is the longer, wider, and taller sedan of all. That said, the Genesis G70 is 184.4 inches long, 72.8 inches wide, 55.1 inches in height, and has a 111.6-inches wheelbase. If you leave the TLX then the BMW 330i is longer by 1.3-inches compared to the G70.

Exterior Features:

  • 19-inch alloy wheels
  • Sunroof w/ power sunshade
  • Heated auto-dimming side mirrors w/ power-folding
  • LED brake lights
  • Projector-beam LED low/high beam headlights w/ LED daytime running lights

Safety
8.0/10

The 2022 Genesis G70 has been majorly redesigned. Although, the mechanicals have remained the same as the 2021 G70. Thus in IIHS's crash test, the scores from the 2021 G70 have been reflected in the 2022 G70's score. The 2022 G70 model gets a "Top Safety Pick+" award from IIHS and it performed excellently in all tests and got a maximum rating of ‘Good’ in all its six parameters. While NHTSA is yet to crash-test the 2022 G70 or for that matter, the 2021 G70 too.

Safety Features on offer are:

  • Highway Driving Assist
  • Genesis Connected Services Emergency SOS
  • Blind Spot Detection
  • Forward Collision Mitigation and Rear Cross Traffic Alert
  • Lane Keeping Assist
  • Lane Departure Warning
  • Parking Distance warning front and rear parking sensors

Competition
8.0/10

2022 Genesis G70 vs. 2022 BMW 3-Series

Right off the bat, the BMW 330i has a better engine and has quicker acceleration figures. It also handles quite well and has an excellent fuel economy. The interior quality also offers tough competition to the Genesis G70, and the BMW 330i has more interior space overall.

All in all, the BMW 330i is the toughest competitor to the Genesis G70 and seems to have that edge over it. After all, the BMW 330i is still the king in the segment.

2022 Genesis G70 vs. 2022 Acura TLX

Although the Acura TLX is a sedan from a segment above as per its size but its price overlaps with the G70 so it remains a tough competitor. The TLX shares a similar capacity turbocharged engine as the G70's base model but it is more powerful and thus the TLX posts faster acceleration figures compared to the G70.

As a bonus, the TLX also returns slightly better gas mileage than the G70. While as stated above being a slightly bigger car in size, the TLX does have an advantage but the cabin space it offers is similar to what the G70 has. Although the longer length and wheelbase do get you a bigger trunk in the TLX.

Final Verdict
8.5/10

The 2022 Genesis G70 gets a new design upgrade that most people will find attractive. The interior tweaks and the standard infotainment screen will only add to its charm. The G70 is a luxurious and upscale sedan that has everything to offer for a typical small-size luxury sedan car buyer. Since it rivals some of the established cars like the BMW 3-Series and Mercedes-Benz C-Class it has to be quick, fun to drive, offer decent fuel economy, and practicality, and be luxurious at the same time. Most of which it has been capable of achieving except for the gas mileage. Keeping this in mind, no doubt the 2022 G70 is a great choice in the luxury sedan segment.
