Overview

With its premium cabin, potent powertrains, and excellent safety scores, the 2021 Genesis G70 is back this year with an even more impressive price tag of MSRP $36,000 for the base 2.0T variant. Bordering on being a great luxury sedan rival, the G70 for the year sidelines its 2.0T Sport package, while the 3.3T Elite package gains adaptive headlights, rain-sensing wipers, and wireless charging as standard now. On the specs front, the 2021 G70 gets a standard 2.0L turbocharged engine, capable of setting a 0-60 MPH time of 7.2 seconds when partnered with a segment rare 6-speed manual setup. Also available is a 365 hp 3.3L twin-turbo V6 engine for the upper-tier trims.

2021 Genesis G70 Buying Advice

With a more powerful V6 engine at the helm, catering to your power needs and offering all of the luxury interior features you could think of, for just a price tag of MSRP $46,200, the 2021 G70 3.3T trim is definitely our choice of recommendation. Further, you could also go for the AWD variant, which sets you back by an additional $2000. If you're in the market for an Older G70 model, be sure to look out for the 2019 G70, which was a completely new model, and marked the start of the G70 lineup as we know. Also for much better savings, the 2020 G70 also seems to be a viable option, which brought along a few feature changes.

While most cars that are priced competitively leave a lot to be desired, the Genesis G70's interior does not compromise on luxury in the name of a cheaper price tag. It offers a long list of standard features, that includes an 8-inch touch screen, synthetic leather upholstery, dual-zone automatic climate control, automatic emergency braking stop-and-go adaptive cruise control, and much more. Available for sale in over three trims, the 2021 G70 competes against some of the best in the midsize class, including the likes of BMW 3 Series, Lexus IS 300, and the Jaguar XE.

2021 Genesis G70 for sale

The 2021 Genesis G70 starts at a Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $36,000 for the base G70 2.0T variant, while the AWD version of the same is priced at $38,000. Next in line is the G70 Sport Sedan, which offers plenty of additional sport-oriented features. At the top of the lineup are the 3.3T and the 3.3T AWD variants, priced at an MSRP of $46,200 and $48,200 respectively. Further, on the front of the packages, the G70 Elite will set you back by an MSRP of $4,150, while the Prestige package is priced at an additional $8,000. Built and assembled in South Korea. The average listing price for a Used 2021 G70 is somewhere between 21,500 and 30,000, based on a number of factors.

Buying Advice

If you want a car that can put a smile on your face, we would recommend you to go with the range-topping 3.3 T Trim. It not only offers more features but also comes with a more powerful V6 engine. Thus, it is more engaging and entertaining to drive. However, if you are on a budget, the base trim offers the best value, thanks to the new features that have been added as standard.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

The 2021 Genesis G70 features a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder motor and a twin-turbo 3.3-liter V-6 engine that powers its range-topping 3.3T trim. Both engines can be paired to either a six-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic transmission. While rear-wheel drive is standard, all-wheel drive is optional on most trims. The 2021 model year offers no major changes on the specs front which mean that it still comes with below-average fuel economy estimates. On the safety and reliability front, the 2021 G70 is certainly aces. Pair that with a sumptuous interior setup, for way less the price than a luxury full-size sedan, and the G70 screams value. It goes up against its more expensive rivals such as the Jaguar XE, Lexus IS 300, and BMW 3 Series.

Buying Advice

If you want a car that can give your money's worth, we would recommend you to go with the range-topping 2021 Genesis G70 3.3T trim. It not only offers more features but also comes with a more powerful V6 engine. Thus, it is more engaging and entertaining to drive. However, if you are on a budget, the base trim offers the best value, thanks to the new features that have been added as standard.

Fuel Economy
4.0/10

The 2021 Genesis G70’s lineup lets the user decide if they want a pocket-friendly car or a car that is thrilling to drive. It not only gives you an option to choose between two powertrains but also two drivetrains. Further, you can also choose between an automatic or a manual gearbox. The 3.3T trim that comes powered with the V6 engine offers 17 MPG in the city and 25 MPG over the highway. The manual 2.0T trim offers 30 MPG, while the automatic 2.0T trim paired to an all-wheel-drive system gets you 31 MPG. The most efficient trim however is the rear-wheel-drive 2.0T trim with the automatic transmission as with it the 2021 G70 offers 22 MPG in the city and 30 MPG over the highway.

Even when paired with the more fuel-efficient motor, the Genesis G70 still ranks at the bottom of the list in terms of fuel economy. The fuel tank capacity of just 15.8 gallons translates into a combined range of 395 miles, which is also the lowest in its class. Thanks to its excellent fuel economy numbers, the BMW 3 Series offers the best range.

Interior
6.0/10

While the 2021 Genesis G70 is an entry-level luxury sedan, its interior does not feel very entry-level. With a cabin full of quality materials and clever features, the G70 strikes a good balance between value and luxury. The dashboard remains driver-centric and looks attractive with the faux carbon-fiber trims spread throughout the cabin. Most touch spots are covered with soft-touch materials that enhance the affluent appeal. The metallic trims are used in abundance and the leather-quilted seats exude a level of sophistication.

Talking about seats, the front row seats offer excellent overall support and hold you well in your place. The extra bolstering provides the support you need while taking on sharp corners. The rear seats feel a bit short on legroom but provide good under-thigh as well as back support. In terms of storage space, the G70 fails to impress with its small door pockets and a below-average-sized glove compartment.

The Genesis G70’s 10.5 cu. ft of cargo space has about enough space to store about 5 to 6 carry-on suitcases behind its second row. The boot sits near to the ground making it easy to load your luggage. However, the high-loading lip still means that you would have to lift heavy items to load them into the boot. If you need maximum cargo capacity, the BMW 3 Series will keep you happier.

All trims of the Genesis G70 come with an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen that features AppleCarPlay and Android Auto as standard. Available features include navigation, wireless device charging, and a 15-speaker Lexicon stereo. While the screen is quite responsive to touch, the interface feels a bit outdated. It seems to have been adopted from cheaper Hyundai cars. Nevertheless, it does the basic job of offering a largely fuss-free experience.

Exterior
8.0/10

The 2021 Genesis G70 comes with a very refined and smooth-looking exterior design language. It certainly looks quite contemporary and if you dig deeper, the attention to detail becomes more obvious. At the front, its nose dives sharply towards the road and the muscular front fenders enhance the bold look. From the side, it looks long and low, exactly how a luxury sports sedan should. Large strakes and air intakes reaffirm the imposing characteristics of its design. Overall, the G70 exudes levels of luxury on the inside with its exterior look as well.

In comparison, the Lexus IS 300 is the longest and the widest sedan here. However, the BMW 3 series gets the longest wheelbase with the Lexus having the shortest wheelbase. The G70 is right up there with its more expensive rivals in terms of road presence and head-turning looks.

Safety
8.0/10

The 2021 Genesis G70 gets a host of active and passive safety features. Its healthy features list makes it quite a safe car even at a relatively cheaper price. Thus, even if you pay less, you get the same levels of safety as its rivals. This is reaffirmed by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety which named it a Top Safety Pick+. It has not been crash-tested by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, yet. It gets many drive-assistance features such as adaptive cruise control and forward-collision warning with automated emergency braking.

Key Safety Features include:

  • Front and rear parking sensors
  • Surround-view camera system
  • Active lane control
  • Forward collision warning
  • Automatic emergency braking
  • Front and rear parking sensors
  • Lane departure warning
  • Rain-sensing windshield wipers
  • Automatic high-beam headlights
  • Blind-spot monitoring

Competition
9.0/10

2021 Genesis G70 vs 2021 Jaguar XE

The Jaguar XE brings a lengthy features list along with sporty driving dynamics to the table. With a spacious interior, it feels properly luxurious on the inside. It also offers better fuel efficiency than the Genesis G70, which makes it more pocket-friendly in the long run. However, its cramped rear seat and an unrefined infotainment system hold it back. The G70 feels more luxurious than the XE and simply offers better value for your money.

2021 Genesis G70 vs 2021 Lexus IS 300

With its ample standard safety features and excellent cabin build quality, the Lexus IS 300 is quite a desirable compact luxury sedan. Its new model now features refreshed exterior styling and even a retuned chassis and suspension. Lexus has also updated its infotainment system. However, it still cannot match the fineness of the Genesis G70’s cabin. Also in terms of performance, it lacks behind all its rivals.

Final Verdict

The new Genesis G70 lives by the rules of offering a lot for less without being called a compromise. With its nimble handling, refined ride, premium cabin materials, and a long list of standard features, it is a complete value for money package. However, things like the low-fuel economy and an outdated infotainment system feel like a trade-off for the cheaper price tag. Thus, if you can ignore these two trade-offs, the G70 is sure to keep you satisfied with its potent V6 engine option and a high-class cabin.
