Overview

Armed with a 2.0L turbocharged Inline-4 engine and a 12-kWh battery pack, fused to an 8-Speed Automatic transmission, the 2021 BMW 3 Series PHEV makes 288 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. Standalone, the engine makes 181 horsepower while the electric motor manages 107 horsepower. This powertrain helps the 3 Series PHEV cover 0-60 in 5.7 seconds. You can drive the car for 23 miles on the electric system alone, making it good for a small trip in the city. Combined, the 3 series hybrid achieves an impressive 75 MPGe combined while getting 28 MPG from the traditional engine alone. With a base price of MSRP $44,550, the 3 Series PHEV makes a formidable competitor in the compact sedan segment, even though it lacks direct competitors other than the Volvo S60 recharge.

Buying Advice

There isn't a lot going on with the 2021 BMW 3 Series PHEV when it comes to the trims as there are only 2 trims available. Our recommendation is the base trim. The base trim starts at an MSRP of $45,545 and offers better MPGe than the xDrive 330e. It also offers all the features available needed by average car buyers but if you're looking for more, then we highly recommend the Driving Assistance package. This package offers blindspot monitoring, lane departure warning, and parking sensors.
