Overview

Mercedes has done something for everyone. The Mercedes-Benz C-Class sedan was the most affordable Mercedes to buy on the market until the A-Class snatched the crown from it. This middle-class luxury vehicle has shown immersive updates over a couple of years, close to the S-Class sedan's outer appeal. Built originally on the rear-wheel-drive (RWD) platform, it has tantrums to run on 4Matic mode without extra charge. A cabin is what the Mercedes is identified for. Every component touches a level of flagships. Confidant handling that sits atop the optimum power from the four-cylinder engine. The infotainment system, super comfortable seats, simple and elegant personality, and tons of driver-assistive features by default are some of the witnesses making it a challenging warrior against the Koreans and neighboring Germans.

Buying Advice

Nothing can be more wise decision than choosing the exclusive option. Power folding mirrors, heated front seats, interior lighting, a drowsy driver monitor, and emergency stop assist of Premium, it serves a wireless charging pad, automatic emergency braking, a 360-degree camera system, and a Burmester sound system on top of that. Choosing the Exclusive option opens the door to accessing the driver-assistive package that brings adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping system, evasive steering assist, and much more options to feel safe inside the car.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

For 2023, expecting anything from Mercedes would be a childish deed. Last year the manufacturer has bought up enough cravings that anyone would drool over to buy. Though there were not many things to discuss, the new generation brought hope to new enthusiasts. As a carry-over model for last year, the Mercedes-Benz C-Class Sedan competes against the Genesis G70, the BMW 3 Series, and the Audi A4.

Release Date

The 2023 generation of the C-Class sedan is about to appear in the fall of 2022.

Engine and Performance
6.9/10

The junior S-Class sedan gets its strength from the turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder engine. It sends 255 horsepower, and 295 pound-feet of torque. Paired with nine-speed automatic transmission, it runs on rear wheels costing much to upgrade for the 4MATIC or AWD architecture. The sedan jumps a 0-60 mark in 5.8 seconds, whereas with power on all wheels it conforms the same crime in 5.3 seconds. Barely there would any hater who would not appreciate the driving of C-Class. Buttery transmission shifts effortlessly, adding a more premium feel to the car. Steering sometimes behaves abstractly, but things get better over course of time. Cruising it in and around the city is something one would do regularly. Taking it on the highways is also a fun activity, it raves well, but does not leave that utmost pleasing experience Mercedes is known for. Accelerating from a casual speed takes a few seconds and one can compensate for it. The first gear ratio is 5.35:1 which is a bit behind some rivals. It goes up to 1.64:1 till the fourth gear and falls on the eighth gear at 0.72:1. It takes 4.80 seconds to get back to reverse.

Genesis is known as their best value offering, and here too it is the most affordable luxury sedan under $45k. Audi A4 is the fastest sedan that brings the lowest power and torque outputs. There are some brothers of it bringing power equivalent to rivals. The 2023 Mercedes-Benz C-Class price sends it as the most expensive mid-size sedan one can think to buy. BMW 3 series provides the highest top speed still it does not cope-up well with the rivals on the table. Mercedes C300 top speed jumps of the Audi A4. Genesis shows the least desperate attitude as it takes the highest time to catch velocity.

2023 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Ride and Handling

The ride quality of the C-Class does not compromise solace and adaptability. Highly comfortable leather seats even on basic trim send a message that the manufacturer has worked on delivering quantum satisfaction when steering the vehicle. The suspension system is fluid on the speed bumps. Strut suspensions on the front wheels are lighter in weight and help improve the overall ride and handling capabilities of the vehicle. Multi-link rear suspensions allow for higher lateral stiffness and desire to change. It helps in better braking. Even for a long car, it handles curvy lanes with full respect and devotion. The body roll feels less than many of its classmates. While turning, it draws attention when it brings a diameter of 36.3 ft. The C300 offers five drive modes. Comfort is the daily driving algorithm that insulates optimum relaxedness. The individual mode gives controls to drivers’ hands to propagate the driving communication according to their wishes. Eco mode guides you to save fuel, by telling engines to work slowly and enables the car to use the least power to run. Sport brings the sprinting spirit of the C-Class by doing transmission shifts, and engine response more direct. Sport+ exaggerates the usual sport mode by sharpening steering response, throttle behavior, and torque generation. Standard 18-inch wheels flex with tires of P225/45HR18 on the front and P245/40R18 on the rear.

2023 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Braking System

A nice braking system is the identity of AMG line models, but the C300 is also good at stopping appropriately fast. Brake pedals are on the mild side ensuring an appraising braking experience. An anti-lock braking system on all wheels limits the wheels from locking under critical or harsh braking situations. Standard forward collision mitigation notifies of a forthcoming crash. Whenever a driver is incapacitated, emergency stop assist automatically switches on the hazard lights, summons assistance, and stops the vehicle

The amount of luxury C-Class carries, a glimpse at the curb weight. It is the heaviest mid-size Mercedes sedan., and also in comparison. BMW 3 Series is the sedan with the lowest weight. Genesis G70 curb weight and Audi A4 curb weight are on the same page. On the front wheel, C300 covers the largest brake calipers, while on the rear Genesis is entitled to the same. Brake calipers are quite powerful on Audi which enables it to stop faster despite low sizes. The brake calipers and braking distances of BMW are not given. Taking to its great transformation for the year, an educated guess is bringing the rotors of relative size. Shaking hands with its lowest curb weight in the segment, it stops the fastest.

Fuel Economy
8.0/10

Despite carrying a heavy weight of luxurious components from Mercedes, the C-Class sedan also impresses shoppers with its fuel efficiency. It estimates a combined mileage of 29 mpg. Showing 25 city mpg and 35 on the highways. When filling its fuel tanks of 17.4 gallons, it offers 504.6 miles of combined range, fetching 435 miles in the city and 609 on the highways.

Despite the number of features, Mercedes is one step ahead of everyone showing the best mileage and range number on any mid-size luxury sedan. Behind that Audi brings the same mpg with extra more or less. Audi A4 has the shortest fuel tank. BMW holds an identical mpg as the C300, but it subtracts one mpg on highways. Genesis suffers from the lowest fuel efficiency despite one of the largest fule carrying capacities in comparison.

Interior
6.9/10

Cabin of the C-Class got a deep overhaul last year when the manufacturer set off the fifth generation. Super tech enthusiasts are gonna enjoy it. For people driving the newest C300 for the first time, denote it like a spaceship with no controls on the dash and console. Interior speaks louder than its highest price in the segment. Doors open wide as they used to and no one feels confined when jogging in and out of the cabin. Rear door panels hold controls in iconic S-Class style format. Painted with a shiny piano black finish they consist of window controls, a purely fitted armrest, and some storage space consoled in it. Front panels also repeat the same persona but with a touch of luxury bringing a motion to the front seats. The seats are supremely comfortable in the class. Made of leather upholstery, it arms you well with the eating function without extra charge. Even on long drives, rear seats try to maintain the same nature as the S-Class but ask for extra money to heat passengers. The Interior can be optioned into ten color pallets, we prefer going for black accents to hide stains.

The dashboard is one of the prominent selling points of Mercedes. Now it wears a fanatically formal outfit, and even buttons are disappeared completely. Made up of high-quality elements, the dash looks like a replica of the S-Class. It covers five usual jet-engine-shaped AC vents a total of which three are guarding the infotainment touchscreen and two are seated on either pole. The highly minimalistic approach of the C-Class shows power tilt and a telescopic steering column that has a nice grip. The center console, unlike the whole theme, is clean. Two center armrests holding door mechanisms to sneak into the storage space underneath are well padded. No gear selector, some hidden space, and minor controls cling to the vertically slept screen complete the console.

Genesis brings the spacious cabin to extend the legs the most in the front row and second-row seats. Mercedes also carries a good amount of comfortable seats that console very well. BMW 3 series deals with the highest trunk space. The trunk space of the Mercedes C300 is better than the Audi A4 and Genesis.

Highlights of interior appeal–

  • Power-heated front seats
  • 2-way driver and 10-way front passenger seat
  • Power tilt and telescopic steering column
  • Power rear windows
  • Mercedes Meconnect mobile hotspot
  • Front and rear cupholder
  • Front cigar lighter
  • Leather-wrapped steering wheel
  • Leather upholstery
  • Ashtray

How intuitive is the 2023 Mercedes-Benz Infotainment System?

A 12.3-inch touchscreen resting vertically on the dash is the central processing unit (CPU) of the C300 sedan. It goes from the dash to the console with AC vents pearled on its crown. The user interface is based on MBUX, which is abstract art to operate for a noob person. Graphics, brightness, and touch response are something that Mercedes does not complain about. It supports both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto wirelessly. Ahead of the “Hey Mercedes” command, an onboard WiFi hotspot is also cooked along with that. A wireless charging pad and head-up display are given with extra money, but ambient lighting shines across the cabin without penalty. the 5-speaker audio system can be replaced with Burmester sound.

Show-offs from infotainment system–

  • 12.3-inch center display
  • Apple Carplay and Android Auto connectivity wirelessly
  • 5-speaker audio system
  • MBUX user interface
  • Voiced activation
  • Steering wheel controls
  • Mercedes Me connect tracker system
  • Onboard WiFi hotspot service
  • Radio data system
  • 3 USB C-ports

Exterior
6.9/10

Simple, easy, and derived outer appeal of C-Class gains less attention when standing in a line with rivals. It has been the same for several years and still has got a significant place among the people who know it very well. The hood goes down with its nose equipped with a turbocharged four-cylinder engine. Little upliftment on the bonnet to make it look a bit better than just being normal. The front mashed-style grille shows a big Mercedes star at the core with a front parking camera. Mercedes logo on top of that. The front spoiler melted in black is as usual. Things get attractive with the LED headlights, which bring a strong commitment to delivering the longest visibility in its segment, and no doubt they are sharp too. The side profile is very simplistic and serves window and door handles finished in black accents. Standard 18-inch wheels are stuck into the tires of P225/45HR18 on the front and P245/40R18 on the rear. Out of 12 exterior clearcoat paint options, we prefer going for metallic grey to suit the soft design. The outside rearview mirrors are finished in black. The rear design is fetching LED brake lights, Mercedes star, exhaust tips, and power trunk access.

Competition

2023 Mercedes-Benz C-Class vs.2023 Genesis G70

Genesis is a more affordable luxury one could reach. Both bring similar power and torque figures, but Mercedes is faster, despite the heavier body. The exterior fashion of Genesis beats the Mercedes, but the interior of Mercedes shelters one the best looking and sophisticated cabins. Mercedes is also good at delivering applaudable fuel efficiency. Genesis offers 19-inch wheels, while the C300 equips 18-inch wheels on the standard.

2023 Mercedes-Benz C-Class vs. 2023 BMW 3 Series

This is tough competition. Mercedes vs. BMW. BMW similar to Mercedes also brings super simplicity and a cabin filled with almost no buttons. Mercedes is in a bit higher price bracket. BMW is a bit faster and offers more top speed, while C-Class wins the efficiency race by a small margin. Both carry spacious interiors, while the 3 Series jumps ahead with the segment-leading trunk space. Both are good values for their respective prices.

2023 Mercedes-Benz C-Class vs. Audi A4

Despite low power generation, Audi is faster and comes with less money. Mercedes styles with a tech-holic cabin that is nowhere seen on the A4. Mercedes please with a more spacious interior, and better efficiency, while, the Audi A4 brings cargo capacity equivalent to C300. C-Class offers a rear-wheel drive platform on the base, while Audi sends an all-wheel drivetrain with seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission on A4

Final Verdict

C-Class has reigned a terror of being seated among the most luxurious vehicles. People consider and acknowledge the cutting-edge tech of the car the manufacturer sends into it. The seats are pleasing. The infotainment system is a bit confusing but it is okay. The dashboard design is phenomenal. Interior ambient lighting reminds us of S-Class. Fuel efficiency sits atop the table. It looks overall an approachable option. Genesis offers to send similar levels of luxury at low prices. BMW 3 Series might be a good choice we one can not stretch their budget up to $45k. For those who crave speed, Audi A4 is a faster opinion.
