Overview

To all the Acura nerds out there, the name “Integra” might bring in a lot of nostalgia as it was last seen in the early 2000s. The brand revives the name in the form of a compact sedan and will replace the Acura ILX in 2023. Although it comes in as a family vehicle unlike the performance car that it was back in the day, the 2023 Acura Integra fits well right into the current lineup of the brand. It incorporates some allusions to Acura's heritage while adopting current styling characteristics. The sedan form of the Integra blends nicely with the brand's sharp nose, five-sided grille, and strong body creases to produce a sporty and sophisticated appearance. The Integra also has a gentle slope that gives it the appearance of a fastback.

Buying Advice

Despite the massive price difference between the base trim and the top variant, we would still pick the A-Spec Technology as it carries way too much additional tech and features that justify its price. However, the major reason to pick the A-Spec Technology is its optional manual transmission which can be opted for at no extra cost, and shifts without any hiccups or lag.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

The Integra shares a lot of similarities with the Honda Civic Si upon which it is built, which is fantastic. The compact Acura delivers the greatest features of Honda's tiny sedan with a little more flair thanks to the inclusion of smart dampers, available adaptive suspension, a somewhat sturdier body structure, and a useable cargo compartment. We observed a more realistic engine sound, a precise transmission, and a joyous driving experience in town that was unmatched by the Acura's rivals. However, the tires do start squeaking while in a corner, though the car feels like it is built to handle harder turns. Despite being based on a Civic, the Integra throws out performance and build quality that pits it against rivals like the Audi A3, the Mercedes-Benz CLA 250, and the BMW 2-Series Gran Coupe.

Features
9.0/10

The Acura Integra would place itself as the most affordable Acura model and would be available in 3 trims. The base Integr will start selling for $31,895, followed by the A-Spec model. The top-of-the-line model is called the A-Spec Technology and will carry a price tag of $36,895. All the models come with a standard drive train but the buyer picking the A-Spec Technology will have the option to choose a manual transmission instead of the CVT. Some of the standard features that come with the Integra include keyless entry and ignition with heated seats on the front row. The driver seat also features power adjustability with cushions wrapped in simulated leather. However, wireless phone connectivity and dual-zone climate control are only available on the top model.

Release Date

The revival of the iconic name from Acura came in as massive news and the car was officially listed for sale in Q3 of 2022.

Fuel Economy
4.0/10

The base Integra model with the CVT, which is rated at 30 mpg city and 37 mpg highway, is the most economical Integra variant, according to the EPA. This averages out to 33 mpg in combined drive conditions but those picking the manual transmission will see a dip in numbers with the city estimation of 26 mpg while the highway figure stands at 36 mpg. This results in a combined estimate of 33 mpg, which isn’t all that much considering the current standards but is enough to face its major rivals. The Integra is also equipped with a fuel tank that can carry 12.4 gallons of fuel and it sure is one of the smallest tanks among the competition.

Despite the Audi carrying a better highway EPA figure, the Integra tops the combined fuel efficiency but that alone isn’t enough to make the car cover a good distance. Acura comes with the smallest tank, which affects its overall range while the Audi boasts a larger tank, putting it right at the top in terms of range. Although the Mercedes beats the Integra in terms of highway range, the combined figure puts the Acura in second place. BMW takes the last spot with its limited range making it visit the gas station way more often. However, since these vehicles are compact city runners and short commuters, it is highly unlikely for someone to tour in one of these.

Interior
6.0/10

Although the Integra's cargo compartment is roomy and the front seats are pleasant, the rear seat is uncomfortable despite having lots of leg room. Acura equips the Integra with finely padded seats wrapped in faux leather that the driver can electronically adjust in 8 different ways. The standard 4-way power passenger seat adjustment and 4-way lumbar adjustments for improved back support are added in the A-Spec. Larger or smaller drivers can fit comfortably in the front row given its flexibility in terms of adjustments. The rear seat bottoms sit way too low, failing to provide adequate thigh support that is necessary when commuting for a longer period. The cabin isn’t all that premium considering that it's going up against brands that never underdeliver in terms of luxury. The rear seatback also has a 60/40 fold, providing additional practicality when needed.

Acura sure couldn’t meet its rival's quality standards but the brand instead chose practicality by offering a much larger cabin space to keep the passengers comfortable by making sure there is enough space for cargo. Two commendable aspects of the Acura have to be its rear-row legroom and the biggest cargo space in the segment. While manufacturers like Mercedes and BMW struggle to fit adults in the rear row of their compact sedans, Acura offers ample space that leaves some breathing room for the knees. The smallest cargo can be seen in the Audi but all the rivals fall within similar proximity in terms of cargo space, making them all less practical than the Integra.

Some standout interior features on the 2023 Acura Integra include

  • Simulated leather upholstery
  • Leather-wrapped steering wheel
  • Up to 12-way power-adjustability for the driver’s seat
  • 60/40-split folding rear seats
  • Interior ambient lighting
  • 4-wap power-adjustable front passenger seat

How intuitive is the 2023 Acura Integra infotainment system?

An 8-speaker audio system and a 7-inch touchscreen screen are standard on the Integra. The car also comes standard with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, however, to access these functions on any model other than the top-of-the-line Integra, you must connect your phone via USB. The infotainment screen is increased to 9-inches and the number of speakers is doubled to 16, on the A-Spec Technology trim. Although the 16-speaker system from ELS audio is a nice addition, it lacks a lot of power despite producing fantastic sound. When your favorite song is playing, turn it up all the way and you'll still wish it was louder. In this top-tier Integra, additional features include a head-up display, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a wireless smartphone charging pad, and three USB-C connections, summing up a rather good list of in-cabin tech.

Some of the standout infotainment features on the 2023 Acura Integra are

  • 7 or 9-inch infotainment system
  • 8 or 16-speaker stereo system
  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • Head-up display
  • Wireless charger
  • Three USB ports

Exterior
6.0/10

With the brand's five-sided grille on the nose and well-known creases throughout the body, the Integra's appearance is unmistakably in the family. Although the sedan's steep slope gives it a fastback appearance rather than the previous Integras' straightforward style, the rear end harks back to the RSX and earlier Integras. Acura refers to it as a liftback and like the Acura TLX, the Integra has a longish dash-to-axle ratio, a low cowl, and a lengthy hood that drops low into its crest-shaped grille. The running lights have a distinctive crook in the corners that Acura refers to as "Chicane," and the front end is packed with cuts and ridges. The Integra may be distinguished from other Acuras by its rear end. Dual exhaust pipes and a squat hatch along with Chicane LED tail lamps hug the back. It is an inch longer and somewhat broader than the facelifted Civic Si sedan, but it is roughly the same height.

While the Acura initially felt to be sitting way too low to the ground, checking the Mercedes out changed that notion as the CLA 250 has just 4.3-inches of ground clearance. The low height sure does help keep the drive stable but speed bumps can turn out to be a nightmare. In that sense, Audi comes with the highest ground clearance but all the rivals are shorter in comparison, making them look way too compact in comparison. Acura also has the sleekest body, thanks to its sloping roof and lower roof height but this means the occupants might have to slightly crouch to make it into the cabin.

Some of the standout exterior features include

  • 17”/18”/19” Alloy wheels
  • LED exterior lighting
  • Heated mirrors
  • Sunroof
  • Trunklid spoiler
  • Dual exhaust tips

Safety
7.0/10

NHTSA has only determined the rollover result for the car which sands at a 5-star rating, but we do not doubt that it will receive the highest overall safety ratings from both NHTSA as well as IIHS. It has numerous features that validate the fact that Integra could top this section. They include adaptive cruise control, active lane control, road-departure mitigation, traffic sign recognition, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, blind-spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alerts, and traffic jam assist, which can control the steering, brakes, and throttle in some low-speed situations. However, stick-shift vehicles cannot employ adaptive cruise control at low speeds, hence Acura's Traffic Jam Assist feature is not available on manual A-Spec/Tech vehicles.

Some of the standout safety features available with the 2023 Acura Integra are

  • Forward collision mitigation
  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Lane-keeping assist
  • Blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert
  • Traffic sign reader
  • Low-speed automatic braking

Competition
8.0/10

2023 Acura Integra vs 2023 Audi A3

The Audi A3 in terms of the power it makes it’s a lot like the Integra but due to the lazy CVT of the Acura, the Audi takes a clean win in terms of acceleration. Both these cars have distinctive advantages and even though the Audi fails to offer a manual transmission, it is equally fun to drive but the Integra packs in a lot of practicality in terms of cabin and storage. The major win for Audi is in terms of the build quality and the kind of materials used but we would still lean toward the Acura as it manages to keep adults in the rear comfortable.

2023 Acura Integra vs 2023 Mercedes-Benz CLA 250

The CLA 250 from Mercedes-Benz is undoubtedly the better-built vehicle and things become very evident on the inside. The cabin looks posh on the Merc, making the Acura look downright cheap and it also has the upper hand when it comes to performance but the Integra sure is fun to drive as well. Keeping the luxe aside, the Mercedes features the worst rear-row space, making it a passenger's nightmare while Acura comes with class-leading rear-row legroom. Though the Mercedes might be a tempting option, the value that Acura offers is far superior as it is priced over $8,000 lesser than the CLA 250.

2023 Acura Integra vs 2023 BMW 2-Series

Like the Mercedes, the BMW 2-Series has a serious issue when it comes to passenger and cargo room. The cabin on the BMW holds better quality though it does not look all that exciting. The major forte of the 2-Series is performance and it is a joyous vehicle to be behind the wheel of. We would definitely recommend the BMW to someone looking for a fun car to drive with ni much priority to practicality but the more well-rounded car here is the Acura Integra due to its better fuel economy as well as the cabin space.

Final Verdict

The Integra is anticipated by fans with quite high hopes as it joins back the lineup after a long gap. There are many things to admire about this fast compact sedan, even though some of you may dismiss this new Integra as just a shinier Honda Civic. Most importantly, the Integra uses all of the very best performance components from the excellent Civic Si while adding unique features like additional technology and an adjustable suspension. Despite its retro design, the new Integra is elegant as well, and it is the only vehicle in this segment to have a reliable manual transmission. As long as you dismiss your high standards at the door, the new Integra is a captivating car that goes beyond its moniker. No car is ideal for everyone, of course, but as you can see, the Integra is an instance where this is even more true. It will be viewed as heresy by some, a sellout by others, a delight by others, and a nice way to commute to work each day by others. However, one thing certain is that it's a new sedan with a 6-speed manual transmission. That makes it noteworthy in 2022 on its own.
