Overview

Now the 2023 Acura TLX is making its way into the market, and not much has changed, except this time it is coming with a TLX Type S PMC edition, which will be a more powerful version of the existing Acura TLX. The 2023 Acura TLX has an inline-4 turbocharged engine, which produces 272 horsepower. The car is offered in a front-wheel drive train. If you want to go for a more engaging drivetrain, then the option of all-wheel drive is also available. A ten-speed automatic unit is taking care of the transmission duty in the 2023 Acura TLX. The feel and feedback that the compact sedan provides will always keep the drivers happy and the affordability of the car over the German competition makes it a personal favorite of many people. The Acura will be available in a price bracket of $40,000 to $48,000 and will be competing against the likes of cars like BMW 3 Series, Audi A4, Volvo S60, and Lexus IS 300.

Buying Advice

Since there is no official announcement regarding the trims, a recommended trim is not possible as of now. But with the information we have and without considering the performance trims, the top-end Advance trim with an all-wheel drive system makes more sense. The adaptive suspension it has to offer will surely justify its price difference over the other trims.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

The Acura TLX is a car that is quite famous for its good demeanor. It is not ferocious as the German counterparts, but make no mistake, the car always wows the one behind its steering wheel with its controlled moves, great steering feel, proficient braking, and also its spacious cabin. The second generation of the Acura TLX was launched a few years back with a whole new addition of powertrains, reworked interiors and exteriors, better driver aids, and technological advancements. All this was available at a comparatively lower cost than the rivals, which was the USP of the car.

Features
8.0/10

The 2023 Acura TLX is hoped to be available in four trims namely Base, Technology, A-Spec, and Advance and this is not official as of now. All these models will have the availability of an all-wheel drive system as an addition. The price of the 2023 Acura TLX starts from $40,000 and goes up to $48,000 for the top-end model. The car is loaded with features that include an adaptive suspension, a blind spot monitoring system, ventilated seats, and a 10.2-inch infotainment system across various trims. For 2023, there will also be Type S and Type S PMC trims available for the sedan and these models will be performance oriented.

Release Date

There is no official confirmation regarding the release date. However, the 2023 Acura TLX release date is expected to be slated by the end of this year.

Fuel Economy
7.3/10

The fuel efficiency of the 2023 Acura TLX is a little bit disappointing, and surely it is not a very frugal car. The car has a mileage of 22 MPG in the city, 31 MPG on the highway, and combined mileage of 25 MPG. The competition offers better fuel efficiency than the Acura and the car is beaten up by almost all rivals when fuel efficiency numbers are taken into care. The overall range provided by the compact sedan is also on the lower side, it has a combined range of 421.35 miles which is the lowest in the segment.

The segment leader, when it comes to the fuel efficiency, will be the Lexus IS. With a combined mileage of 35 MPG it beats the Acura by a considerable difference of 10 MPG. All the other cars in the segment also have better mileage than the Acura. The BMW and Volvo have got 5 mpg more when compared in the combined mileage section, and in the case of the Audi A4, it is 4mpg better than the Acura TLX.

Interior
8.0/10

The interiors in the 2023 Acura TLX are very welcoming and the seats offer good comfort. Every kind of person can find a perfect driving position with the seating adjustments offered in the car. The tilt and telescopic steering wheel add to this advantage. The doors open widely and ingress and egress are easy. The rear row comfortability is on the lower side and tall folks will surely feel cramped in the backside of the car. Even though the Acura is more affordable than the competition that doesn’t reflect on the interior quality of the car. Synthetic leather upholstery is standard on all trims of the sedan and an option of genuine leather upholstery is also available. Good quality materials are used throughout the interiors. The infotainment system now comes with a trackpad, but the downside is that it is not very user-friendly. The car has got a cargo space of 14.3 cu-ft which is appreciable.

Now when compared with the competition, it is evident that the second row of the 2023 Acura TLX is a bit cramped. The BMW takes a prime position in the space department. The interior space each car offers is pretty close to one another. The cargo capacity in the Acura is good enough with a space of 14.3 cu-ft, but once again, the BMW 3 series become the segment winner with its lavish 17 cu-ft cargo capacity. The Audi A4, Lexus IS and the Volvo S60 have comparatively lesser cargo capacity when compared to Acura.

Standout interior features of the 2023 Acura TLX include:

  • Ventilated and heated front seats
  • 12-way adjustable driver seat
  • Tilt and telescopic steering adjustment
  • Push Button start and proximity key
  • Illuminated glove box
  • Auto-dimming rearview mirror

How intuitive is the 2023 Acura TLX’s infotainment system?

Apart from the issue of the touchpad, the infotainment system on the 2023 Acura TLX works great. The maps provided with an integrated navigation system are crystal clear and are very easy to use. It comes with Android Auto and Apple Carplay but the wireless option is not available which is a bummer. The rear row misses out on USB ports, which is not a good thing considering the segment the car fits into.

Standout infotainment features in the 2023 Acura TLX are:

  • 7-inch multi-information display
  • Handsfree wireless telephone interface
  • Android Auto and Apple CarPlay
  • 10.2-inch HD center display
  • SiriusXM satellite radio
  • Speed-sensitive volume control

Exterior
8.0/10

The Acura is definitely a good looking car with all those sharp lines and curves provided throughout the car. Surely, it is not macho as the German counterparts but neither is a bad looker. The sharp lines on the body, the headlights which go very well with the front grills, and the decently sized alloy wheels give the car quite a nice feel and the car will turn heads when it is out.

Talking about the dimensions, the Acura is 194.6 inches in length, 75.2 inches in width, and 56.4 inches in height. The ground clearance of the car will be 5.3 inches and the car comes with a wheelbase of 113 inches.

Considering the figures, we can see that the car is a sizable one in its segment. When rivals are considered, the Volvo S60 will be the closest to follow in the exterior department. The 3 Series and the Lexus IS fall behind the 2023 Acura TLX in the exterior dimension department. In the case of height comparison, all the cars mentioned here are almost identical. The Volvo S60 has the best ground clearance of 5,8 inches followed by the Lexus IS 300 and Acura with 5.5 inches and 5.3 inches respectively and the others in the segment share almost identical ground clearance.

Standout exterior features of the car include:

  • Body-colored front and rear bumper
  • Rain sensing wipers
  • Light tinted glass
  • Approach lights
  • Lip spoiler
  • Programmable projector LED beam

Safety
8.0/10

The 2023 iteration of the sedan is expected to come with AcuraWatch safety feature as standard across all the trims, which provides a lot of driver assistance features. Adaptive cruise control is on offer but the system is a bit slow to respond and we expect the issue to be solved in this model. The safety ratings for the car are not yet available, but since the 2022 Acura TLX is rated 5 stars in the NHTSA ratings, we can expect a similar rating in the 2023 model also. Some of the standout safety features of the 2023 Acura TLX are:

  • Traffic jam assist
  • Vehicle stability assist
  • Front side collision mitigation
  • Electronic stability control
  • Side impact beams
  • Blind spot detection system

Competition

2023 Acura TLX vs BMW 3 Series

The driving feel and feedback the 3 Series provides is surely exceptional and is better than the Acura. However, the feature department is where Acura shines over the 3 series. The Japanese vehicle offers many standard features, which are optional in the BMW 3 Series. In the areas like cargo space and fuel economy, the 3 Series has got the upper hand but the Acura offers way more in the infotainment section. If you opt for value for money, then the Japanese should be your pick and if you opt for performance the German is the winner.

2023 Acura TLX vs Audi A4

The Audi A4 is a favorite in its segment. With the standard all-wheel drive and the spacious rear row, the car surely is a segment charm but when it comes to driving, the TLX offers a better driving experience altogether. Compared to the Acura, Audi’s cabin is roomier and its infotainment system gives a better user experience but the affordability of Acura over the Audi is still a very important deciding factor.

2023 Acura TLX vs Lexus IS

When comfort is considered, surely Lexus takes the top rank in the segment. Reliability, quality, fit and finish, all these departments both the cars go head to head and return excellent results. The TLX and Lexus IS 300 are identical competitors and brand favoritism will be the deciding factor here.

2023 Acura TLX vs Volvo S60

Volvos are very famous for the safety net they are providing to their users and the S60 is not any exception. In the looks department though it will be the Acura TLX that wins the battle. But looks are subjective and there is not a clear winner here. But going through all the information mentioned here it is clear that the Acura is a better value for money when compared to the Volvo S60.

Final Verdict

If you are a value-for-money person, surely the 2023 Acura is a pick for you. The car offers a lot of features that are only optional on many rivals on a fair price bracket and also it is not a bad car either. It may not perform as temptingly as its rivals, especially the German counterparts, but what makes this car stand out is its all-around performance in every field. Once again, it is not the class-leading option when we consider it with the rivals, but the thing is that it gets the job done and also offers every feature in the segment. The build quality is also top-notch and the Japanese brands are famous for their reliability. Since the 2023 Acura TLX is a carry-forward model the question will be should you wait for it? If you want to go for the S model, then surely it will be worth the wait, otherwise, wait only if you want a model which is fresh out of the batch. So, if you are looking for a car in this segment that offers great value for money, don't look any further because the Acura is the car for you.
