Overview

The Nissan Altima has been one of the most popular mid-size sedans in the American market and the sales figures show the same. The changes for the 2023 Nissan Altima are subtle but substantial. The exterior gets a redesigned front fascia with a new front grille, LED headlights, a new logo, and redesigned wheels. Besides this, Gray Sky Pearl and Garnett Pearl Metallic are the 2 new paint color options. Check out the video below by "Raiti's Rides" and find out if the new Altima is the best sedan to buy.

The Nissan Altima 2023 also gets a renamed top-end trim, the Platinum trim level has been renamed as SL. Inside, there's a new 12.3-inch infotainment screen, standard on the SL and SR VC-Turbo trims and optional for the SV trim. Nissan's Safety Shield 360 driver assistance is now expanded even further with more safety aids. The MSRP of 2023 Nissan Altima starts at $25,630 which means a considerable price hike of $730 over the previous model year

The 2023 Nissan Altima for sale is available in 4 trim configurations with 2 powertrains. As standard, there's a 2.5L 188 hp four-cylinder engine and the Nissan Altima 0-60 time of 8 seconds is pretty sufficient for most. While there is no manual transmission on offer, Nissan offers an AWD drivetrain for all trims barring the base S model. The available AWD puts it ahead of its rivals like the Honda Accord, Kia K5, Hyundai Sonata, and Toyota Camry

Buying Advice

While there are plenty of features available as standard, we would prefer opting for the 2023 Nissan Altima SR trim with a starting price of $27,830. Opting for the AWD costs $1,500 more and if budget is not a constraint, then the optional Premium package for $2,890 is worth the additional investment.

As standard, the Altima SR features special exterior & interior styling elements, leather-wrapped steering wheel & shift knob, 19-inch alloy wheels, sport suspension, 12.3-inch touchscreen with wireless connectivity for Apple CarPlay & Satellite radio, powered driver seat, and much more.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

The 2023 Altima is powered by the 2.5-liter naturally aspirated inline-4 that produces 188 hp and 180 lb-ft of torque and is available for all models. Only the 2023 Nissan Altima 2.0 SR is one of the quickest as it gets an option for a 2.0-liter variable compression turbocharged four-cylinder motor that is capable of doing the 0-60 MPH run in 6.4 seconds, thanks to its 236 hp and 267 lb-ft output. Although the Altima SR 2.0 is significantly quicker thanks to sport-tuned suspension, all-wheel drive, and 19-inch wheels, it isn't as fun as its rivals.

While the fuel efficiency 2023 Altima is pretty strong at 27/39 MPG in city/highway for the standard powertrain, while the VC Turbo model also does well at 25/34 MPG. The cabin gets tons of features right from the base trim and the 15.4 cu-ft trunk space is amongst the largest in the business. In terms of safety, the Altima 2023 scores a perfect 5-star rating from the NHTSA while the IIHS awarded it with the "Top Safety Pick+" award.

The J.D. Power reliability rating of 80/100 is on par with rivals like the Chevrolet Malibu, but the Asian rivals perform better. Expect the 5-year cost of ownership to be around $38,950 which is slightly higher for a car of this class. The  Nissan Altima 2023 price starts at $25,630 excluding the $1,115 destination fee, which makes it one of the cheapest Nissan cars on sale today. Nissan offers 7 paint color options for the Altima but the 5-inch of ground clearance is quite low even for a sedan.
