Overview

The 2024 Hyundai Sonata was recently unveiled at the Digital News Conference for the U.S. market. The new 2024 Sonata features an aggressive exterior design with improved aerodynamics. The front exterior design of the Sonata 2024 model is reminiscent of the 2024 Hyundai Kona. Even the interior of the new Hyundai Sonata is more modern and advanced, and it comes with a unified curved display as seen in the Hyundai Ioniq 5.

The biggest and most welcome change in the Hyundai Sonata 2024 model comes in the form of an AWD drivetrain available with the base engine itself. The 2024 Hyundai Sonata price is estimated to be around the $27,000 mark. The 2024 Hyundai Sonata release date is fall-winter 2023. With all that said, the new Sonata will join the list of the top 10 brand new Hyundai cars to buy in 2024. Check out the video by Motor Future to learn more about the Sonata 2024.

Buying Advice

The 2024 Hyundai Sonata has been redesigned quite well in every aspect. Considering the estimated price and expected trims, we consider that the base SE would suffice for the needs of most buyers. It gets modern infotainment features, ADAS safety features, and decent performance at the price point.

However, for those looking for better performance, the 2024 Hyundai Sonata N Line would be more ideal. For efficiency-conscious buyers, the 2024 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid would be the way to go. So, Hyundai has something for everyone, so you don't miss out on anything on the Hyundai 2024 Sonata.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

The 2024 Hyundai Sonata is part of the seventh generation introduced for 2020. So, fundamentally, the chassis and core designs are the same. The J.D. Power Consumer Ratings for the 2024 Sonata are not available, but we can take reference to the previous model year. The 2023 Sonata scored 81/100, which can be considered great, courtesy of very good scores of 82/100, 87/100, and 83/100 in quality, driving, and resale, respectively.

As a result, the 5-year cost of ownership will be less. However, the dealership experience, with a score of 71/100, could be improved. The Hyundai Sonata 2024 price is estimated to start at $27,000 for the SE trim and go up to $36,000 for the Limited trim. Hyundai's legendary warranty policy of 3 years or 36,000 miles (limited warranty), 10 years of 100,000 miles (powertrain warranty), and complimentary maintenance for three years or 36,000 miles is very competitive.

Features
8.5/10

The Hyundai 2024 Sonata is refreshed with a more distinct and unified appearance like some other upcoming Hyundai cars. Going by the previous model year, we expect the new Hyundai Sonata 2024 model to come in SE, SEL, SEL Plus and Limited trims. The gas-sipping 2024 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid and performance-oriented N Line models will be covered seperately.

Hyundai has finally offered the AWD drivetrain for more confidence-inspiring driving experience in poor weather conditions. The 2024 Sonata also boasts a first-in-class power trunk which is missing from its competitors like the Honda Accord, Subaru Legacy and Kia K5. Hyundai also claims that the new Sonata is improved for NVH with body reinforcements.

2024 Sonata Release Date

The Hyundai Sonata 2024 release date will be in fall-winter 2023.

Engine and Performance
8.0/10

The 2024 Hyundai Sonata specs are very similar to the previous model year. The new Sonata is powered by a 2.5-liter, four-cylinder engine with 191 hp and 181 lb-ft of torque. However, the N Line trim gets a more powerful 2.5-liter turbocharged engine with 290 hp. The older 1.6-liter turbo engine has been dropped from the lineup. The standard Sonata engine is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. Finally, to match up with the competition, Hyundai offers the HTRAC AWD system as an option with the Sonata 2024 model.

For improved control, different drive modes like Normal, Smart, Sport, and Custom will adjust engine and steering mapping. Also, the Snow Drive model will enhance driver security and provide better traction. The 2024 Hyundai Sonata is estimated to take 7.7 seconds. The driving experience and handling of the new Sonata would be good but less confidence-inspiring than the Accord or Altima, for that matter. The ride quality will be composed and refined, especially due to improved NVH levels.

In terms of performance, the last position is taken by the Subaru Legacy. This car goes from 0 to 60 in about 8 seconds and has a top speed of 130 mph. However, the story changes when it is equipped with a turbo engine and does the same in 6.1 seconds. The Honda Accord and Kia K5 are equipped with smaller turbocharged engines and offer better performances, courtesy of their better power-to-weight ratio. The 2024 Hyundai Sonata N Line would demolish the competition with a 0-60 time of 5.0 seconds.

Fuel Economy
8.0/10

As of now, the 2024 Hyundai Sonata mpg ratings are not available. Offered with the same platform and powertrain as the previous model year, one can expect at least 28 mpg city, 38 mpg highway, and 32 mpg combined. And with the small gas tank of 14.8 gallons, the Korean midsize sedan gives out an average driving range.

The driving range in a city is around 414 miles; on the highway, it's around 562.4 miles; and combined, it's around 472.6 miles. It can be said that the Sonata is a pretty fuel-efficient car, which only falls behind in terms of the driving range and leads you to take more fuel stops.

In terms of fuel economy and driving range, the Honda Accord has a very similar gas mileage and range  as the Hyundai Sonata. Closely behind the Accord comes the Subaru Legacy in second position which also provides a respectable fuel economy and a good driving range and also has the largest tank capacities among the four vehicles. Now in third position comes Kia K5, this Korean midsize sedan delivers a respectable fuel economy, a large fuel tank, and a good driving range in all aspects.

Interior
8.0/10

The 2024 Hyundai Sonata’s interior looks very sleek and futuristic. Hyundai went all-out on designing the interior of the 2024 model, and it is quite visible. Hyundai has used modern, light fabric colors and supple leather combinations inside the 2024 Sonata. The Sonata 2024 interior color combinations are black and dark gray as single-tone colors. The dual-tone color combinations are greige two-tone and dark gray and camel two-tone.

The curved panoramic screen on the dashboard is reminiscent of Hyundai's electrified vehicles. The gear selector has been moved to the steering column to make space in the center console. The 2024 Hyundai Sonata trunk capacity of 16.3 cu-ft (est.) and power-operated trunk are much appreciated. Overall, it can be said that the Sonata’s cabin is modern and feature-filled. It is crafted to make it an amazing daily-driving family car.

In terms of interior, the Honda Accord comes first because it has a simple and very functional interior. It also has a quite spacious interior that is filled with features, and it comes with a large trunk capacity. Now in second place comes the 2024 Hyundai Sonata, which comes with the most flashy and bold interior that is filled with modern tech. It also has a decent trunk capacity.

In third place comes the Kia K5, which provides a premium as well as a sporty interior with several features. Also, the trunk capacity of this midsize sedan is quite good. And in last position comes the Subaru Legacy with an outdated interior. Also, the trunk capacity is less than the competition, making it less practical.

The 2024 Hyundai Sonata interior has been upgraded with curved 12.3-inch screens for both infotainment and gauge clusters, giving the sedan a fresh and modern appeal. Previously, an 8-inch display was offered. Hyundai also confirmed that they are providing a 12-speaker Bose premium sound system as an option. Also, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support is now spread across the lineup. The Hyundai Sonata key is a Digital Key 2, which can be accessed via smartphones and smart watches for functional control of the vehicle.

Some of the standout interior features of the 2024 Hyundai Sonata are:

  • Curved panoramic display
  • Dual-zone automatic climate control
  • Redesigned three-spoke steering wheel
  • Power adjustable seats
  • Wireless charging pad
  • Heads-up display

Exterior
8.0/10

The 2024 Hyundai Sonata redesign is a sure head-turner because of its aggressive and modern exterior stance. The exterior of the car highlights sleek lines all around it, along with the aggressive-looking front fascia that includes the sleek headlights, which Hyundai addresses as Seamless Horizon Lamps. The side profile is pretty similar to the previous model year, and nothing much has changed to elaborate.

You can witness the symmetry more on the rear end, where the light bar design has been revamped and it forms an “H” pattern, similar to the 2024 Santa Fe. All these design features enhance the already impressive exterior of the 2024 Sonata. And in short, it can be said that this midsize sedan comes with modern and aggressive styling, and advanced features and functions enhance the beauty of the Sonata even more.

The 2024 Hyundai Sonata exterior design is the most modern in the comparison. The exterior dimensions are bound to be similar to the 2023 model year, with minor changes. The Kia K5 is the lightest, and hence it offers nimble handling. Even its wheelbase is larger, and it helps with high-speed stability. A higher ground clearance is always welcome, and the Honda Accord offers a decent one. The Subaru Legacy is the bulkiest of the lot, owing to the AWD system as standard.

The 2024 Hyundai Sonata exterior color options include:

  • Abyss Black Pearl
  • Aero Silver in matte or metallic
  • Atlas White
  • Biophilic Blue Pearl
  • Cream Beige
  • Curated Silver Metallic
  • Nocturne Gray in matte or metallic
  • Serenity White Pearl
  • Transmission Blue Pearl
  • Ultimate Red Metallic

Safety
8.5/10

The 2024 Hyundai Sonata comes with tons of safety features, as Hyundai has prioritized the safety of the new model year. The 2023 Sonata received a five-star safety rating from the NHTSA, which testifies to its high safety quotient. Even the IIHS has given it a "Good" rating in most crash test parameters. So, we can say that the 2024 Sonata will also walk in the footsteps of its predecessor and offer the highest possible safety in its class.

Some of the standard safety features of the 2024 Sonata include:

  • Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist
  • Rear Cross-traffic Collision-avoidance Assist
  • Blind-spot Collision Assist
  • Safe Exit Warning
  • Lane Keeping and Following Assist
  • Smart Cruise Control

Competition
8.0/10

2024 Hyundai Sonata vs. 2024 Honda Accord

Both the Sonata and the Acoord are two very well-built and well-known vehicles in the midsize sedan segment. The Accord offers slighty better performance and driving range than the Sonata, while the Sonata delivers better interior features and designs. Also, both these vehicles cost almost the same and provide a similar array of features.

In short, choosing one vehicle between these two is a very tough job, you should go for the new Sonata, as it is better in more aspects than the Accord and its base mode of it provides more features than the base model of the Accord. Even the powertrain warranty of the 2024 Sonata is much better than 2024 Accord.

2024 Hyundai Sonata vs. 2024 Subaru Legacy

The Hyundai Sonata and the Subaru Legacy are two daily-driving midsize sedans that compete against each other in their segment. Both of these vehicles provide decent performance, the Legacy is slower than the Sonata in terms of 0-60 while the top speed is the same, it is also slightly smaller in size than the new Sonata.

The Sonata dominates over the Legacy in most aspects, this Hyundai sedan delivers more power, the braking in it is smoother and it offers a much better and more advanced interior. Overall the Sonata is a much better choice in the midsize family sedan segment as it provides many features and is more worth the money.

2024 Hyundai Sonata vs. 2024 Kia K5

The K5 and the Sonata are two very affordable and well-known sedans in the midsize sedan segment for their array of features that are offered as standard or as optional, and also their interior and exterior looks. The Sonata offers a much better exterior design and interior features, while the Kia K5 proves to be a better sedan in terms of performance. In short, choosing one car between these two is a tough job but if you have to go for one then the 2024 Sonata will be a better option.

Final Verdict
8.0/10

Whether you should go for the 2024 Sonata or not depends upon your budget and your requirements. This model has already been released worldwide except in the US, and it is expected to be released by the end of this year. Currently, the 2023 model is available on the market for sale. However, we would recommend waiting for the 2024 Sonata, as it is a thorough improvement in every regard. Hyundai's refreshed midsize family sedan comes with several features, performs quite well, and has an impressive fuel economy. But the main highlights of this car are its stunning exterior and interior, which look wildly modern and elegant.

The 2024 Sonata is an excellent upgrade from previous models, with improved performance and better gas mileage, along with improved Safety features.
