The 2022 Mercedes-AMG E 63 S is the top-of-the-line performance version of the E-Class. It comes with a plethora of features at a price of $107,500. Apart from a fury V8 engine, it gets plenty of luxury creature comforts as one would expect in this class and price range. It gets a new set of 20-inch wheels, a new 12.3-inch touchscreen display, dual-zone automatic climate control, automatic LED headlights, and LED brake lights. 

There’s also a panoramic sunroof, spoiler-mounted solar panel, heated and ventilated front seats, Nappa leather upholstered seats, a navigation system, and a lot more. It also receives some performance upgrades such as adaptive suspension, a firmer suspension tuning than lower variants, and an Eco start/stop system. There are also some additional packages to choose from like the Carbon Fiber package adds carbon-fiber exterior accents including side mirror caps and side sills.

The E63 S is the only option if you’re looking for exhilarating performance with a luxurious cabin experience. For its asking price, the E63 S overwhelms its overall persona. However, you can further enhance it with optional packages.

2022 Mercedes-Benz AMG E 63 S Release Date

There has been no official communication made by the brand regarding the launch of the new Mercedes-AMG E63 S.

With such power under the hood, one has to compromise on fuel economy. The 2022 Mercedes-AMG E 63 S manages to provide a decent fuel economy of 15 mpg in the cities and 23 mpg on the highways which gives it a combined fuel economy of 18 mpg. It’s an engine that can be fueled only by premium gasoline which might not be the most frugal in the segment but just satisfactory. Surprisingly none of its competitors beat it in terms of efficiency. 

The 2022 Mercedes-AMG E 63 S and the 2022 Maserati Ghibli Trofeo, share the podium for the largest fuel tank capacity among the rivals here. Both are fitted with a 21.1-gallon fuel tank. However, Ghibli’s low fuel economy affects its range. The E 63 S though leads the segment in terms of range which you can expect to be around 379 miles. The closest that comes to the E 63 S is the 2021 Audi RS7 Sportback and BMW M5 that manage combined efficiencies of 17 MPG. 

The interior of the 2022 Mercedes-AMG E 63 S is one of the best in the segment. It is highly luxurious, attractive-looking, and filled with the latest gizmos. The dashboard and center console design are futuristic and contemporary. A metal strip separates the two-tier interior featuring wood/metal/chrome touches. Front and rear seats both have ample space for passengers. The seats are heavily bolstered to make your seating position high and upright for high-speed situations. However, they might be too tight for some buyers. 

The front seats are 10-way power-adjustable with heated and ventilation functionality. The seats are AMG exclusive Nappa leather-upholstered, adding to the luxury of the cabin. All cars in the competition can seat 5 people as standard. However, Merc AMG E 63 S turns out to be the most spacious in terms of passenger volume. However, the 2022 Mercedes-AMG E 63 S falls short in terms of cargo space. All other rivals provide better storage for luggage. The 2021 Audi RS7 Sportback has the best storage behind the second row of seats. The 2022 Mercedes-AMG E 63 S features two 12.3-inch screens which are seamlessly connected in the middle to make it look like one big piece. The display is offered with three themes which are Modern Classic, Sport, and Supersport. The Supersport features newly added futuristic 3D graphics. The system is also paired with a head-up display. Mercedes MBUX adds voice commands and hand gestures which are easy to use.

The exterior of the current 2021 Mercedes-AMG E 63 S received a major refresh which also carries into its 2022 model with no further tweaks. The overall silhouette and proportions remain the same though and its stance is still easily recognizable. Thanks to the new 12-slot AMG Panamericana grille with a larger Mercedes-Benz logo in the middle. The headlights are sleeker which feature LED daytime running lights as standard. The front bumper is designed with fluidic air damps with black accents. The large contoured hood completes the front fascia of the car.

The side profile of the car features newly designed 20-inch wheels, black heated power adjusting power-folding side-view mirrors with memory settings, and an express open/close tilt-sliding panoramic sunroof, and a ground clearance of 5.1 inches similar to the BMW M5. The most significant difference is found at the rear end of the car. It features newly designed slimmer LED taillights, a rear lip spoiler with mounted solar panel, a power liftgate, rear fog lamps, and dual exhaust outlets.

In terms of overall proportions and road presence, each of the rivals here, have an aura of their own. However, the 2021 Audi RS7 Sportback is by far the heaviest car in this segment. It weighs over 400 pounds more than the 2022 Mercedes-AMG E 63 S that weighs a little under the 4500 lbs mark. It also features the lowest ground clearance in the segment. It is just 4.3 inches above the ground. RS7 is also the widest car in the lot and sits low on the ground; this translates to better stability. However, it is the Maserati Ghibli that has the longest wheelbase of 118 inches and is almost two and a half inches longer than the Mercedes-AMG. Standout exterior features are:

2022 Mercedes-AMG E 63 S vs 2022 BMW M5

The 2022 BMW M5 is probably the AMG E 63 S’s closest rival. The fellow German giant is closely priced and has almost the same powertrain figures as the E 63 S. However, the M5 is the quickest in its class in terms of 0-60mph and quarter-mile times. The Merc has a tough time competing with the BMW in terms of performance but it takes the lead with its luxurious interior. Not just luxury, the space inside is also larger than the M5, which sets them apart in the simplest way. For us, the Merc has more appeal than the BMW but it’s up to the user to make a choice between the two.

2022 Mercedes-AMG E 63 S vs 2021 Audi RS7 Sportback

The 2021 Audi RS7 Sportback is more performance-focused than the E 63 S. However, it is slightly underpowered and is over $6,000 more expensive than the Merc. The unique exterior styling of the Audi helps it stand out from the crowd but inside, the Merc is more spacious and luxurious. The Merc has the ability to provide the best of both worlds i.e. performance and luxury making it the preferred car.

The Italian brand with its Ghibli Trofeo offers a good package but it simply can’t match the Merc. The Maserati Ghibli Trofeo is expensive and is also the most underpowered. This combination can’t possibly compete with the German giants in terms of sales and popularity. The E 63 S is a no-brainer here, as it excels in almost every aspect when compared to the Maserati. To be more specific, the Merc has a better and more luxurious interior, it is more powerful, more economical, and less expensive than the Maserati.
