There is no option to choose from, the reason being there is no need to as the standard SUV in itself is pretty well equipped in terms of safety, performance, comfort and entertainment sections altogether making it the best buy for the price, while you can choose between the optional extras, if you prefer more practicality then you should go for the standard GLE 63 S as there is not much of a price difference between both.

Release Date

There has been no official confirmation from the brand regarding the release date of the 2022 Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S and with no information whatsoever, it is difficult to predict a timeline for its launch. 

At the heart of the 2022 Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S Coupe lies a handbuilt 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 which makes 603 hp and 627 lb-ft of torque in the 2021 model. A smooth-shifting 9-speed automatic transmission sends power to all four wheels and never misses a beat. As of now though, this same pot is expected to serve in the 2022 model as well without any change. However, with Mercedes-Benz eyeing complete electrification in the near future alongside smaller engines, we are a bit skeptical about these heavyweight AMG engines. 

For the moment though, the 2021 GLE 63 S Coupe is a beast on the streets with very light feet, Power comes in lightning-quick and smooth with negligent spool during startups. Power delivery is smooth and linear with a huge amount of available torque across the rev range. When floored harder on a winding road, the Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S Coupe races from 0-60 MPH in just 3.7 seconds. Thankfully, the upgraded large ventilated discs at all four corners have a strong bite into them and are confident enough in taming down the GLE’s raging adrenaline. Interestingly, all the other cars in the lot here offer similar performance, the GLE 63 S edges ahead with its extra torque and that does show up when you fire it harder.

When you intend to play with the Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S on a winding street, this behemoth behaves surprisingly well for its size and heft. While it's not as disciplined as a Porsche Cayenne Turbo coupe around corners, but for its size, the GLE 63 S offers remarkable grip and composure. The throttle response is quick but does not make it jumpy in any manner and the steering offers good feedback as well. 

Bumps and potholes are soaked well even in sports mode and the suspension despite being on the stiffer side seem very compliant. There is also a Sports Plus mode which is the more hardcore version of the Sports mode but is better used on track rather than on the streets as it makes it stiffer and sharpens every response which would result in an uncomfortable ride on the road. Under normal city conditions though, those large 21’ inch wheels do translate some minor vibrations inside the cabin but at highway speeds, the GLE 63 S Coupe gets as form as a rock. Each SUV clocks similar timings when tested, however, it is the Porsche Cayenne Coupe that manages the best top speed of 177 MPH, while both the Audi and BMW are limited to 155 MPH. 

Although Mercedes-Benz has been busy recently scraping off larger engines with smaller and hybrid powertrains, such a thing doesn't appear in near sight for the behemoth AMG GLE 63 S, at least for now. Now what that means is that the 2022 Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S should offer similar fuel economy as its 2021 counterpart. We are talking about a 20 MPG combined fuel economy. For something which weighs over 5000 lbs and can sprint from 0-60 in 3.7-seconds, this economy is more than overwhelming, to say the least.

Among the competition here, the Mercedes is the most fuel-efficient of the lot and also has the biggest fuel tank, which is identical to the size of the tank in Audi here. Speaking of Audi, the RS Q8 is the least efficient among the pack here averaging 15 MPG and also the heaviest. Surprisingly enough, even the lightest among the pack here, the Porsche Cayenne Turbo Coupe stands behind the heavier GLE 63 S in terms of fuel economy, but its largest fuel tank of 23.7-gallons helps it average combined range above the 400-mile mark.

The GLE 63 S might be a performance-focused model from Mercedes-AMG, but it does not cut out on comfort or luxury. The seats are well supported and comfortable. There is seating for up to 5 and passengers get almost all the modern-day creature comforts that one would expect in this class. The plush leather upholstery feels very soft to the touch and the wide front seats also get power adjustment alongside heating and ventilation. However, with the Coupe body style, the rear headroom and cargo space seem to suffer a bit as the sloping roofline cuts off significant headroom in the back. There is ample space up front, but if you are someone who likes to travel along with your family or friends often, the standard GLE SUV will provide better space. 

The interior has no disappointments of any sort, the dash is a well laid out design with buttons and knobs controlling the different functions. With a major change made to the 2021 model’s cabin, ergonomics got better than they were in the previous model, and many new features have also been added or replaced to make the interior a place no one could forget easily. The floating digital screen architecture looks very modern and in line with modern Mercedes-Benz products while the soft-touch leather surfacing justifies its stature really well. The four aircon vents stuck on the carbon-fiber insert on the dash also couple well with the metallic accents to uplift the interior vibe. All of these are expected to be carried forward to the 2022 Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S Coupe SUV.

For a large coupe SUV, the GLE 63 S not only has a decent cabin space but also a healthy cargo area. With 27.5 cu-ft of cargo space, the GLE 63 S can swallow most of your weekend packaging. Although the trunk lid opens wide but is a bit on the higher side making it a tad difficult pushing things in there. Among the competition though, the Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S shines bright with its best in class headroom at both rows. Thanks to its taller personality despite the dramatic roofline. In terms of cargo and practicality though, the Audi RS Q8 turns out to be the most generous with its 30.5 cu-ft of cargo space. While Porsche’s interior space is not known, its cargo capacity is the lowest in the segment. The BMW X6M on the other hand has a roomy cabin and similar cargo space as the Mercedes-AMG.

There will not be many changes made to the exterior of the 2022 Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S Coupe SUV as it is supposed or speculated to be more of a carryover model. What that means is that buyers would still get a brawny and meaner SUV which apart from its offline, carries no other drama. With its large footprint, wider hips, and those thick 21’ inch alloys, the GLE 63 S has loads of road presence.

The Panamericana grille which is a signature symbol of all the AMG models adds an aggressive look to the front fascia, alongside are the signature daytime running lights, and exclusive 21-inch alloy wheels. In the rear you get a curved roofline creating a sloping rear end and the quad trapezoidal tailpipes which further help to make the AMG GLE 63 S Coupe stand apart from the rest of the models.

With all its muscle and flair, the Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S also adds up a lot of weight into it having a curb weight of 5,350 lbs. However, the other three rivals here follow a similar suit as well. The Porsche though is the lightest among the bunch here weighing just above the 5000 lbs mark and has similar ground clearance as the BMW X6 M of almost 8.5 inches, which is significantly more ground clearance than the Mercedes which in turn will make it a better performer off-road. 

The RS Q8 on the other hand is the longest measuring 197.3 inches which makes it slightly hard to maneuver around town and would also be difficult to park in tight spaces or small garages. However, its wheelbase of 117.9 inches is similar to the Mercedes-AMG’s. No matter which of these modern SUVs you pick, one gliding down a busy street will surely catch eyeballs like a magnet.
