Fuel Economy
7.0/10

A 603 hp Bi-Turbo V8 powertrain sounds too much for a regular car and to curb that, the AMG GLE 63 S has an EQ Boost starter-alternator. It works with the engine to avoid turbo lag and ensures improved performance and efficiency. That's why the AMG GLE 63 S Coupe can do 15 MPG in the city. Apart from that, you get 19 MPG on the highway paired with the 22.5-gallon tank that delivers 382.5 miles of range.

In the whole segment, the Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S Coupe is the only SUV with an MHEV powertrain. The closest someone gets is the Cayenne Turbo S e-Hybrid that is a full-fledged PHEV SUV. Both Mercedes and Porsche offer almost similar fuel economies where the Cayenne takes over averaging a mileage of 18 MPG. If we talk about the X6M and the RS Q8, both of them have a lower economy, but the latter does have the largest tank in the segment, which does help with the range.

Interior
8.2/10

The 2021 Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S Coupe will offer a whole new level of luxury and design. The cabin is wrapped in Nappa leather upholstery with premium chrome and aluminum accents. With great visibility of the road and upright seating, you have decent cabin space as well. The dashboard is designed with sporty pinstripes and leather. With the MBUX, you get an advanced all-digital dashboard with an integrated driver's display and infotainment. All the controls are collectively placed on the 3-spoke flat-bottom AMG performance sports steering, while the touch controls are finished in aluminum.

For the front row, you have leather-wrapped heated and ventilated bucket seats with 8-way power adjustments, 4-way lumbar support, and memory settings. The comfort package brings multi-contour massaging seats. At the back, you get a 40:20:40 split-bench seat that can seat up to 3 passengers. Either you can recline the seat back or fold it for cargo to enhance cargo space from 39.3 cubic feet to 60.7 cubic feet.

The AMG GLE 63 S Coupe offers decent cabin features that include a power tilt and telescopic steering, telephone pre-wiring, ambient lighting, heated/cooled front cupholders, NFC wireless charging, 4 12V DC outlets, a dual-zone automatic air-conditioning, an adaptive cruise control, MBUX instrument cluster and power anti-whiplash front head restraints. The Warmth and Comfort Package adds heated armrests.

Rivals offer similar seating space but the Mercedes is the best option when it comes to front row seating comfort and options. In terms of quality and design, the AMG GLE 63 S Coupe is a pure German luxury SUV. The options add better comfort and convenience options for you. • Leather upholstered dashboard
  • 3-spoke leather flat-bottom AMG performance steering

Exterior
8.0/10

The 2021 Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S Coupe is sportier than the standard AMG GLE 63 S SUV. It is loved for its distinct styling and curvy design. The updated design gives it a robust appearance and better dynamics. With the performance touch of AMG, it looks super cool and aggressive as well. The sloping roofline makes the most difference.

With the facelifted design, it now offers a chrome-trimmed AMG grille and smoked bi-xenon LED headlamps that give it a fresh look. The AMG aerodynamic bumper remains unchanged and with air vents and gloss black trim. The reworked wheel arches are comparatively wider and add muscle to this powerful coupe SUV.

As the AMG GLE 63 S Coupe is pretty huge, the coupe-styled back looks unique. From the rear, it looks like a lifted sedan with its boxy trunk and lip spoiler. Below that we have sleek LED tail lamps. The rear bumper has gloss black trim as well. Mercedes' signature quad exhaust setup looks attractive even in black.

The appealing colors and optional carbon fiber accents add the AMG charm to the GLE Coupe. It looks best with the dark infrared film. There's an AMG night package that gives a dark theme to the SUV. The performance all-season tires are wrapped around 21-inch AMG twin 5-spoke wheels whereas the 22-inch wheels are optional.

With plenty of muscle and curves, the AMG GLE 63 S Coupe is a massive performance SUV. It weighs more than the BMW X6 M Competition. In terms of length, it is slightly smaller than the RS Q8. Both Merc and BMW prefer a wide stance for their SUVs. As it rides higher with its huge tires, it is the tallest SUV in the segment.

A ground clearance of 7.5-inches ain't much, still, the AMG GLE 63 S Coupe has decent off-road capabilities. Even with a short wheelbase, it has impressive handling and balance. As compared with the rivals such as the Cayenne and the RS Q8, the AMG GLE 63 S Coupe weighs comparatively lesser and has similar dimensions.

Some of the standout exterior features are as follows:

  • AMG signature grille with chrome accents
  • Metallic paint with gloss black trim
  • Smoked bi-xenon LED headlamps
  • Body-colored lip spoiler
  • Carbon fiber exterior elements
  • 21-inch AMG twin 5-spoke wheels

Safety
9.8/10

The 2021 Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S Coupe is as capable as it looks. What gives it ultra-strength is its high-strength steel structure. To strengthen the roof, fenders, and bumpers, Mercedes has used lightweight aluminum to make the structure both rigid and balanced. That's how it bagged the top safety pick title for 2021 MY with its perfect safety score.

The safety starts with the driver assistance features such as the driver monitoring alert, surround and aerial view camera, lane keeps assist with lane departure warning, collision mitigation system, and active blind spot assist. Moreover, Mercedes offers additional safety with the ParkTronic advanced parking assist and the PRE SAFE system.

Some of the standout safety features are as follows:

  • 360 degree surround view camera
  • Lane keep assist with lane departure warning
  • Collision mitigation system
  • Active Blindspot assist
  • PRE SAFE and PRE SAFE PLUS
  • Driver monitoring alert

2021 Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S Coupe SUV vs 2021 BMW X6 M Competition

BMW and Mercedes have been arch-rivals for decades, be it any segment. When it comes to SUVs, BMW's capability and performance take a toll on Mercedes SUVs. With the X6 M Competition, BMW offers a high-performance SUV with a desirable package.

The Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S Coupe isn’t much behind with its amazing comfort and advanced driver assistance features. Both the SUVs fall in a similar price range where the X6 M is more agile whereas the AMG GLE 63 S Coupe is more practical and capable with its EQ boost.

2021 Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S Coupe SUV vs 2021 Porsche Cayenne Turbo S e-Hybrid

Porsche is known for its performance and precision. The Cayenne is the most sporty SUV in the segment. Now it is offered with a 670hp PHEV powertrain that won't give a chance to the rivals. With its value and reliability, the Cayenne E-Hybrid is the best performance SUV you can get.

The AMG GLE 63 S Coupe offers a similar package at a comparatively lower price. Instead of a PHEV, this one is an MHEV performance SUV with pretty competitive performance numbers. When it comes to comfort and design, both Mercedes and Porsche fight closely in the segment.

2021 Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S Coupe SUV vs 2021 Audi RS Q8

When the Audi RS Q8 hit the market, it changed the SUV segment forever with its advanced dynamics and capabilities. It is one of the best-valued performance SUVs you have. It gives tough competition to all other SUVs but falls back with its poor economy and ride quality.

The AMG GLE 63 S Coupe has received major improvements for 2021 and offers a better package for its price. With its 603hp V8, it is both capable on the track and can tow heavy trailers. With its advanced tech and lavish cabin, it also offers a better economy than the RS Q8.

Final Verdict

The 2021 Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S Coupe has not been around much but is considered a big deal in its segment and with the AMG performance version, Mercedes has majored the whole lineup within a couple of years. If you are looking for a performance SUV you have various options but the 2021 Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S Coupe is the best one you can have with its advanced tech, luxury comfort, countless convenience options, superb entertainment, and a whole list of driver assistance features.
