Overview

Riding atop the new architecture, Jeep’s legendary midsize SUV, the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee offers an impressive off-road capability with on-road refinement. The new Grand Cherokee gets even more luxurious and has the rugged look Jeep buyers love. Totally redesigned for 2022, the Grand Cherokee brings back the off-road-oriented Trailhawk version. Now available with a plug-in hybrid powertrain (Grand Cherokee 4xe) and the first-ever 3-row version (the Grand Cherokee L). The rear-wheel-drive is standard on models with the base V6 engine, while there are three different all-wheel-drive systems. Jeep still offers the 357-hp 5.7-liter V-8, which tows up to 7,200 lb.

The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee has a starting price of $37,390 for the Laredo and can top out at $63,760 for the Summit Reserve. The 2-row 2022 Grand Cherokee lineup includes Laredo, Altitude, Limited, Trailhawk, Overland, Summit, and Summit Reserve trim levels. the key highlights of the redesigned 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee also include significant infotainment, convenience, and safety technology improvements. The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee is a five- or seven-seat SUV that competes with a range of midsize vehicles including the Kia Telluride, VW Atlas, and GMC Acadia.

Buying Advice

Since Jeep hasn't yet launched the Grand Cherokee, we are unable to make a trim recommendation for now. However, do check out this space for when Jeep officially launches the model as we will update you with our recommendation.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

The biggest change for the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee comes in the form of a redesigned two-row model, which makes the return of the Trailhawk off-road trim with standard AWD. Jeep is also introducing a 4xe plug-in hybrid model (Grand Cherokee 4xe) along with new 3-row seating for up to seven passengers (Grand Cherokee L).

The 2022 Grand Cherokee will continue with the signature Jeep grille and boxy design layout but with more creases and flair than before. On the powertrain front, the V6 and V8 engines continue. Both engines will come paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission. Jeep has confirmed that the 2022 Grand Cherokee will feature a level-two autonomous driving system as part of the package. The VW Atlas, GMC Acadia, and the Kia Telluride rival the mid-size Jeep Grand Cherokee in the market.

What is the Price of the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

Starting from $37,785, the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo offers impressive equipment such as LED headlights and taillights, an 8-way power driver seat, cloth seats, an 8.4-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a 10.3-inch digital gauge cluster.

Buying Advice

For those looking for a road-only Jeep, you’d be pleased with the High Altitude or Summit trims, even with the smaller engine, although AWD is a must for traction in poor weather conditions. Those in the market for an off-roader needn’t look past the Trailhawk, while the SRT and Trackhawk variants deserve ample consideration on their own.

Features
8.0/10

The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee has a starting price tag of $37,785 and can go up to an MSRP of $63,760 for the range-topping Grand Cherokee Summit Reserve. The Grand Cherokee's starting price is a bit more than other 2-row midsize SUVs in the segment.

Jeep offers the 2022 Grand Cherokee in seven-trim levels including the two most popular trims, Laredo and Limited. The off-road-oriented Grand Cherokee Trailhawk costs $51,670. All trims can be equipped with a four-wheel drive that costs $2000 extra.

The entry-level Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo offers an impressive array of standard features for its $37,390 starting price. With a standard V6 engine, 8-speed automatic transmission, and rear-wheel drive, a base Laredo comes equipped with a new Uconnect 5 infotainment system with an 8.4-inch digital touchscreen, wireless Android Auto, wireless Apple CarPlay, Amazon Alexa compatibility, and over-the-air software updates.

The base Grand Cherokee model even includes adaptive cruise control with stop and go, plus active lane management.

Fuel Economy
4.0/10

With the base V6 engine, the 2022 Grand Cherokee returns 19/26/21 mpg in city/highway/combined driving conditions. Don’t expect an SUV to fit a brawny V6, be highly capable on rough terrain, and also be economical at the same time. With the V8, the fuel economy ratings drop to 14/22 mpg city/highway. The same 24.6-gallon fuel tank will allow the Grand Cherokee to stretch 517 combined miles on average.

The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee won’t be the efficient SUV pick, especially against rivals like Kia Telluride, GMC Acadia, and Volkswagen Atlas. But note, that the margin isn’t huge and is a worthy trade-off for capabilities that the Grand Cherokee will be sated with.

Interior
9.0/10

The Grand Cherokee has since become synonymous with off-roading and, when properly equipped, luxury - CarBuzz

The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee works quite well for smaller or larger families, thanks to the recently introduced Grand Cherokee L three-row SUV. The Grand Cherokee offers a good space in every row, ample cargo space and high-quality materials inside the cabin. For 2022,  the interior updates include a centre console layout with updated switches and more storage space. This fifth-generation model gets even richer, with materials and design that are a step above almost all rivals in its class.

Not much of the details have been a dig, but excellent materials, eye-sparkling styling cues, big infotainment screen about the cabin. The FCA's new Uconnect 5 infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability is standard. Inside, the Grand Cherokee moves up to true luxury with wood trim, metal McIntosh speaker grilles, and diamond-quilted leather. Upfront, the winged shape dashboard design boasts a high-tech look with the standard digital instrument cluster, an 8.4- or 10.1-inch centre touchscreen, and an available front-passenger touchscreen.

At 193.5 inches long on a 116.7-inch wheelbase, the Grand Cherokee grows 3.4 inches overall and its wheelbase is 2.0 inches longer. The L is bigger, with a wheelbase that’s almost 5.0 inches longer than the two-row version. In the first row of Grand Cherokee, occupants have lots of room, but the base model lacks a power-adjustable front passenger seat. The standard Grand Cherokee has 37.7 cubic feet behind the rear seats that expand to 70.8 cubic feet behind the first row.

The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee will remain spacious and comfy inside the cabin, but one would find the Volkswagen Atlas more roomy and refined. Similar is the case with the Kia Telluride and GMC Acadia in its range-topping Denali trim. But, we’d wait until the brand unveils the interiors completely.

Standout interior features of the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee

  • Available heated and ventilated front seats
  • Heated front seats
  • Dual-zone automatic climate control
  • Leather-wrapped and heated steering wheel
  • Driver seat memory function
  • Driver and Passenger power lumbar support
  • Uconnect infotainment software
  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto

Exterior
8.0/10

Overall, the redesigned 2022 Grand Cherokee is a welcome improvement over its long-lived predecessor - Edmunds

The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee receives a complete redesign but inherits some exemplary details from the all-new Wagoneer and Grand Cherokee L. Though the new Grand Cherokee model is instantly recognizable, it has more contemporary than the model it replaces. The midsize Jeep has the same heritage 7-slated grille, but it will be slightly slanted forward. It will have more appealing, slimmer LED DRLs and sleeker headlights.

The front end is more upright and looks elongated. Looking at the sides, the new Grand Cherokee features the same trapezoidal wheel openings that house 17- to 21-inch wheels. Higher-end trims get black roofs.

The new Grand Cherokee has grown in size as well. At 193.5 inches long on a 116.7-inch wheelbase, the two-row Grand Cherokee grows 3.4 inches overall and its wheelbase is 2.0 inches longer. These improved dimensions give an already roomy vehicle even more space.

The 2-row SUV is highly anticipated as the all-new Jeep Grand Cherokee L was introduced and it received a warm response. But it’ll still be distinctive with a different exterior shape and lack of black inserts between the chrome trim, as on the bigger 3-row Grand Cherokee.

Expected Exterior features of the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee

  • Panoramic Sunroof
  • Power Liftgate
  • The choice between performance and all-terrain tires
  • Rear Spoiler
  • Variable speed rain-sensing wipers

Safety
8.8/10

The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee is expected to offer Level 2 self-driving capability but would be held off till the end of the year, as in the case of the three-row sibling. Besides that, the 2022 Grand Cherokee will have all the previous safety and driver assistance features. An optional ProTech I package provides Blind-spot monitoring, Rear cross-traffic protection, and a Rear parking camera with parking assist. The ProTech II provides Forward collision mitigation, Active brake assist, and Lane departure warning.

The Advance Protech II provides additional safety with Adaptive cruise control, Perpendicular parking assist, and rain-sensing windshield wipers. The SUV fits 7-airbags as standard. The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee will also carry over the robust and rock-solid chassis as the current model year. The safety ratings of the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee are great, but also marginal in some aspects. The NHTSA has not rated the SUV for 2021, but the IIHS has rated it with an average score.

Notable safety features offered in the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee:

  • Electronic Brake Assist
  • Electronic Stability Control
  • Blind Spot Monitoring and Collision avoidance
  • Lane Departure Warning and Lane Keep Assist
  • Traction Control

Competition
6.0/10

2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee vs 2022 Kia Telluride

The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee and the 2022 Kia Telluride are quite dissimilar in their purpose. The latter offers a premium cabin with more seating capacity than the Grand Cherokee. The new, refreshed Jeep would definitely be modish and appeal more to the buyers. The Jeep SUV is more capable on rugged terrains as well and boasts great on-road manners, while Kia Telluride has never been the headline for off-roading capabilities. The Telluride is a better pick in terms of features and interior design.

2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee vs 2022 GMC Acadia

The 2022 GMC Acadia feels underwhelming in comparison to the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee. With a lethargic and feeble engine, it lacks performance or engaging driving dynamics. The ground clearance of the Acadia is quite less and you’d be more likely to scratch the bottom of the vehicle. Feature-wise, the GMC Acadia is slightly better as compared to the 2022 Grand Cherokee, but the upcoming updates should make the latter more appealing too.

Final Verdict

The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee will receive a much-awaited refresh. The new design is expected to resemble the bigger three-row Grand Wagoneer. The interiors are expected to be more upscale and prominent, but there are no additions to the infotainment. In terms of safety, the Jeep Grand Cherokee is slightly disappointing as much of the essential features are additional upgrades. However, with Jeep not yet revealing the full list of updates to the 2022 model, it is unclear if the new Grand Cherokee will be able to outpace its very well equipped rivals.

              Jeep Grand Cherokee

Pros - [""4wheel drive for bad weather, or off road"", ""Roominess in the front of the car, plenty of legroom""]

Cons - [""Hard ride, even in cruise mode the ride is hard on highway surfaces"", ""Touchy pedals, brake pedal is so touchy you can stop on a dime""]
