Overview

The 2022 Toyota Venza is into its second model year, thus we expect no major changes this year. Slotting between the compact RAV4 and the mid-size Highlander, the stylish and upscale Venza comes with a similar hybrid powertrain and chassis as the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid but costs slightly more. The pricing of the 2021 Venza Hybrid starts at $32,470, and for 2022, Venza's prices will have a slight bump, starting at a base price of $32,600. Toyota is also known to offer variety, so we expect more trims to join the 2022 lineup, like a sporty XSE.

The new Venza competes with other two-row midsize SUVs including the Ford Escape Hybrid, Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid, and Honda CR-V Hybrid. The Toyota Venza scores well for styling, upscale interior, and fuel-efficient 219 horsepower four-cylinder hybrid powertrain. Surprisingly, this sleek-looking hybrid SUV shares its wheelbase with the Toyota RAV4 and is longer by 5.1 inches, still trails for the passenger and cargo room. Still interested? Check out our Expert Review below which offers an in-depth analysis of the 2022 Toyota Venza along with a comparison, for you to make a better choice.

Buying Advice

The 2022 Toyota Venza Limited trim may retail at $40,800, which is slightly on the higher side. But for the extra premium you pay it includes most standard and additional features which will be fruitful in the long term of ownership and hence the limited trim would be our pick.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

Since its introduction last year, the Toyota Venza Hybrid has gained more popularity for its solid fuel economy ratings, an upscale interior, and cushioned ride. It will compete with the Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid, Ford Escape Hybrid, and the Honda CR-V Hybrid. Some of the rivals offer better driving dynamics and cargo capacity than the Venza, still, it is a handsome two-row midsize SUV from Toyota. Let’s see whether the 2022 Toyota Venza emerges as the better option among its competition.

The 2022 Toyota Venza Limited trim may retail at $40,800, which is slightly on the higher side. But for the extra premium, you pay it includes most standard and additional features which will be fruitful in the long term of ownership and hence the limited trim would be our pick.

Features

The Toyota Venza nameplate returned for the 2021 model offering 3 trim levels, namely the LE, XLE, and top-of-the-line Limited. The prices for the LE trim starts at $32,470, the XLE starts at $36,100, and the Limited trim costs $39,900. The 2022 Venza will be majorly unchanged, though we expect more trims to join the lineup, such as athletic XSE. All the Venza's trims come with a standard 2.5L, four-pot engine, and three-electric motors. The differences are mainly within the trim's creature comfort and technology features.

Fuel Economy
7.0/10

Toyota's 2.5L inline 4 cylinder engine Hybrid powertrain returns EPA estimated 40 MPG in the city and about 37 MPG on the highway in the new Venza. As compared to the rivals, especially conventional non-hybrid SUVs, the Toyota Venza is a highly efficient car. This Hybrid SUV has 14.5 gallons of fuel tank capacity and can easily cruise for 580 miles nonstop on a full tank, which is again far more superior to conventional ICE vehicles.

Although all of the 2022 Toyota Venza Hybrid’s competitors hit the same ballpark in terms of the MPG figures, the 2022 Ford Escape Hybrid absolutely crushes others with a better range in the cities as well in highways. It can travel many miles as compared to its competitors. So, if you are a buyer who is looking for better mileage then the 2022 Ford Escape Hybrid will be a better choice for you.

Interior
7.0/10

"Based on its dimensions, we expected the Venza's cabin to be slightly roomier than the smaller RAV4's in terms of spaciousness, but in reality we found the Venza slightly less roomy." - CarandDriver.com

The 2022 Toyota Venza Hybrid is a very potential car that looks sporty on the outside and posh inside. The interior looks more upscale than the rivals and the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid. Venza's dashboard has a unique shape that looks good while the entire dash is covered with high-grade plastic and upper trim levels boast leather. This Hybrid Toyota has five seats in two rows. The seats have cloth upholstery as standard which can be upgraded to synthetic leather.

The front seats are wide enough and are cushioned which is comfortable for long rides. These seats can be power adjusted even in the base trims. The armrest is also comfortable for both the driver as well as the passenger. At the back, there is space for two adults and a child to sit comfortably. The backseats can be reclined so that during long rides the passengers can be more comfortable and won’t feel any back pain.

The Honda CR-V Hybrid comes close to the 2022 Ford Escape Hybrid when it comes to the interior and cargo space. With the rear seats up, the Venza offers 28.7 cubic feet of space which expands to 54.9 cubic feet as you fold the rear seats down.

However, this posh Toyota banks upon modern technology feature to lead its rivals. The Venza is the first Toyota to offer the optional electrochromic panoramic sunroof, namely Star Gaze. Also, The Venza LE and XLE come standard with an 8.0-inch touchscreen display powered by Entune infotainment system. A 12.3-inch navigation-equipped system is standard on the top-range Limited model and remains an available option on the XLE. "The exterior of the 2021 Toyota Venza is, in a word, sleek." - Kbb.com

The 2021 Toyota Venza Hybrid was a brand new entry with a massive change from the predecessor in terms of interior and exterior styling along with some advanced features.

The 2022 model year has the same sense of style as that of the 2021 model year. It uses the same powertrain, chassis, and other components from the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid. A comparison with the current competition in the market gives a better idea of Venza’s handling and off-roading capabilities.

The ground clearance of the 2022 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid is the largest amongst all. This is very important for off-roading as it can easily pass through any obstacles. Also, it is one of the lightest cars in its class. The 2022 Toyota Venza Hybrid is the longest car as compared to its rivals. Some noteworthy exterior features which make the Venza stand out from the crowd are:

  • Stand-alone crossover stance.
  • LED Projector headlamps and LED.
  • Different sizes ( 18” and 19” options) and designs of alloy wheels.
  • Sleek LED taillights.

8.0/10

NHTSA, the crash test agency rates the new Toyota Venza's crashworthiness with an overall safety rating of 5 out of 5 stars. Competition
6.0/10

2022 Toyota Venza Hybrid vs 2022 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid

The 2022 Subaru Crosstrek will have to do a lot more to compete with this generation of the Venza. The 2022 Toyota Venza will be better in almost all the areas than the 2022 Subaru Crosstrek.

The cargo space available in the Crosstrek is also too less. So, overall the 2022 Toyota Venza Hybrid is at any time a better choice than the 2022 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid.

2022 Toyota Venza Hybrid vs 2022 Ford Escape Hybrid

The 2021 Ford Escape Hybrid was a direct competitor to the 2021 Toyota Venza Hybrid from Ford Motors. But this is not the case with the 2022 model year. The 2022 Ford Escape needs a major upgrade to keep up with the Venza.

The interior of the 2022 Toyota Venza Hybrid will be way better than the Ford Escape. So, the 2022 Ford Escape Hybrid may not be a good choice for 2022.

2022 Toyota Venza Hybrid vs 2022 Honda CR-V Hybrid

The engine performance along with its efficiency is gonna be a plus point for the 2022 Toyota Venza Hybrid. It will have 7 hp more than the Honda CR-V Hybrid. Also, the 2022 Venza will have an edge above the CR-V in terms of looks and appearance.

However, the cargo space in the 2022 Honda CR-V Hybrid is a bit more than the Venza. The 2022 Toyota Venza Hybrid is more likely to be loved because of its sleek aesthetics. So, the 2022 Toyota Venza Hybrid will be a better option than the 2022 Honda CR-V Hybrid.

Final Verdict

The 2022 Toyota Venza Hybrid will be a carry-over model as the 2021 model was a brand new entry in the midsize SUV segment. Though we expect more standard features along with more trim levels. The 2022 Toyota Venza is easy to recommend for its handsome styling, superb fuel economy ratings, and upscale interior. You won’t have any issues as it has proven its worth and is a masterpiece. The Venza has everything that the RAV4 was missing but lacks the cargo space behind the rear row.

Toyota did not take any chance in 2021 and looks like it has killed its competition already. However, the true potential of all the cars will only be known after they are launched in the market. All the latest news for these cars will be updated as soon as the manufacturers make an official announcement.
