Overview

Moving in the right direction, Jeep ventures into the luxury domain with the new 2022 Grand Wagoneer. The Jeep Grand Wagoneer is the first American full-size luxury SUV, brought back to life. The Grand version of the Jeep Wagoneer offers upscale amenities and features that can tame the large luxury SUV with a six-figure price tag. Price: The 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer starts at $86,995 for the entry-level Series I trim while the range-topping Series II variant is just shy of $104,000.

Though the new Wagoneer is the same size as the Grand Wagoneer and shares the same chassis, it is powered by a 5.7-liter Hemi V8. With a 471-hp V-8 and standard four-wheel drive, the luxurious and off-road capable Grand Wagoneer is as powerful as it is capable. It has the Quadra-Drive II 4WD system and the Quadra-Lift air suspension.

Inside the upscale cabin, the Grand Wagoneer comes with standard three-row seating that offers ample room for a big family. Plenty of high-tech features ensures everyone is entertained as well. Jeep offers all the latest and greatest driver-assist tech along with the ability to tow almost 10,000 pounds. This new 2022 Grand Wagoneer, arrives this fall and is built upon a rugged ladder frame with independent rear suspension. The 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer will compete against the likes of Cadillac Escalade, the Lincoln Navigator, and the BMW X7

Buying Advice

The base Series I model is going to suffice all your needs. It is well-optimized with comfort and convenience features. We recommend opting for the Convenience package as more safety features will inspire confidence in the driver while driving this big SUV.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

While not quite up to that legendary standard, this Jeep is on the right track- Motor 1

The 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer is the answer to all the competitors who have been offering full-size luxury SUVs with excitement from SUV buyers. Jeep wants this to sit apart from the Grand Cherokee and other Jeep models. The Grand Wagoneer is supposed to be a true luxury arm and it is priced appropriately. Can the Grand Wagoneer be viewed as the latest nameplate in luxury?

This Jeep is advertised and marketed differently from other Jeep models. Moreover, it is also the first Jeep to get the threshold of a six-figure price tag. Therefore, don't even dream of low maintenance and repair costs. When it comes to reliability, lately Jeep and other brands of Stellatis have been suffering from low reliability. However, the Grand Wagoneer could be a game-changer.

Features
10.0/10

At the price level, the Grand Wagoneer boasts an impressive list of features- Carbuzz

The all-new Jeep Grand Wagoneer is offered in four trims- Series I, Series II, Obsidian, and Series III. It has a starting price of $88,995 and reaches up to nearly $104,000 for the top-end model. Add to that a destination fee of $2,000. As of now, 4WD is the standard drivetrain but soon the RWD variant is available.

The Grand Wagoneer comes with a host of standard features, owing to its high price tag. Apart from added features, you also get some stylish touches in the Obsidian trim. Some unique technological features include a 10.25-inch front passenger interactive display, Amazon Alexa with Fire TV, and a 10.25-inch display in the second row.

Fuel Economy
6.0/10

With a 6.4-liter V-8 and standard four-wheel drive, don't expect the 2022 Grand Wagoneer to be frugal - CarAndDriver

Unlike the Wagoneer, the V8 in the Jeep Grand Wagoneer sips a lot of fuel and doesn't get the mild-hybrid system. Hence, its fuel economy is the lowest in the full-size SUV segment. According to the EPA, it returns 13 MPG in the city, 18 MPG on a highway, and 15 MPG combined. Although the ratings are low, buyers will not mind its fuel economy.

Keep in mind that the Grand Wagoneer is the most powerful SUV in its segment and it comes standard with a 4WD system. Thankfully, this SUV gets a humongous fuel tank that measures 26.5 gallons in size. Therefore, the Grand Wagoneer can manage up to 398 miles, in both city and highway driving styles combined. Still, that's less than the competition.

The BMW X7 has the best fuel economy among its rivals and that is pretty much expected due to its underpowered engine. Like the X7, the Lincoln Navigator also houses a six-cylinder engine, and hence, its numbers are slightly better whereas the Cadillac Escalade stands below it. The Grand Wagoneer's numbers are really poor compared to its rivals.

Interior
7.8/10

The inside of the Grand Wagoneer is, in a word, resplendent- The Drive

The interior of the Jeep Grand Wagoneer is astonishing given the luxury elements and enough practicality to smoothen every drive. Jeep has provided the cabin with three rows of seating for the Grand Wagoneer. The dashboard looks amazing and has genuine wooden accents to live up to the luxury name tag. The interior also delights the experiences with highly customizable ambient lighting and a rearview camera for the rear seats.

In standard configuration, the Grand Wagoneer seats up to seven people. With the optional second-row bench seat, it increases to eight. The seats across all rows offer extensive comfort as they come standard with Nappa leather upholstery. No matter which row you are seated in, there is no shortage of space. The second-row passengers also get refrigerated storage while the headliner trim is Alcantara on higher trims.

The dashboard holds the beautiful-looking 12-inch touchscreen display which sits just above the 10.3-inch touchscreen display used for controlling the ambient temperature. Connectivity features like wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are standard. An interactive display is optional for the front passenger which is a unique feature. For audiophiles, Jeep provides a 19-speaker McIntosh audio system whose sound quality is clear.

In terms of cargo capacity, the Grand Wagoneer is the second-best in the segment, behind the Cadillac Escalade. With all the seats upright, you get 27.4 cu-ft. of space, which is massive for a three-row full-size SUV. The third row is power-folded to expose 70.9 cu-ft. of space. The Grand Wagoneer will give you a maximum of 116.7 cu-ft., which is really impressive. Some other interior features are:

  • Quad-zone automatic climate control
  • Wood interior accents
  • Heated, leather steering wheel
  • Color-adjustable ambient lighting
  • Power-adjustable pedals
  • Hands-free power liftgate
  • 115V rear power outlet

Exterior
7.8/10

While the new Grand Wagoneer is handsome, it doesn’t break any new ground in full-size SUV styling- Kelly Blue Book

The design of the front fascia is very reminiscent of the Wagoneer concept that Jeep showed a couple of years ago. The seven-slat grille is chrome finished and Jeep places the Wagoneer badging on the grille. It also gets premium swiveling adaptive headlights that give it a nice premium look. From the side view, you will notice its massive size and standard two-tone look on the roof that distinguishes itself from the regular Wagoneer.

As for wheels, the Grand Wagoneer sits on 22-inch alloy wheels. The air suspension will allow this vehicle to rise up to 3.6 inches, going all the way up to 10 inches of ground clearance. Coming to the rear, it's a very boxy shape and the massive rear window does not open or slide down. The rear sports all-LED tail lights which look incredible with the long strip that connects the two sides. The rear also sports the Grand Wagoneer logo in blocks with no sign of Jeep badging.

Among its rivals, the BMW X7 is the shortest SUV measuring 203.3 inches. This aids in easy maneuverability at tight turns. The Cadillac Escalade's wheelbase is the smallest in this competition. This speaks for its tight third row. The ground clearance of the Lincoln Navigator is less wide than the Wagoneer. Therefore, driving on narrow roads will not be a problem. Some other exterior features are:

  • LED auto high-beam headlights
  • LED DRLs
  • LED taillights
  • LED fog lamps

  • Power-folding, heated exterior mirrors
  • Black roof rails

Safety
6.0/10

Jeep includes almost every available driver-assistance system in the Grand Wagoneer- Carbuzz

For a car that touches the six-figure price tag, it will be a foolish idea to conduct crash tests just for the sake of safety ratings. Hence, the safety ratings of the Jeep Grand Wagoneer are not available. But as the reputation of Jeep goes, the ratings will be impressive if crash tests would be conducted by NHTSA and IIHS.

The Grand Wagoneer is Jeep's flagship SUV and hence, Jeep has thrown all of its safety systems in this vehicle. You will find a host of standard driver aids in this SUV while a few of them are available as options. In addition, the Grand Wagoneer also gets a suite of eight airbags for the protection of passengers. Some safety features are:

  • Forward-collision warning
  • Automated emergency braking
  • Blind-spot monitoring system
  • Rear cross-traffic alert system
  • Lane departure warning
  • Lane-keeping assist
  • Night vision camera
  • Drowsy-driver detection
  • Semi-autonomous driving system
  • Traffic sign recognition
  • Intersection collision assist
  • Side distance warning
  • Parallel & perpendicular park assist
  • Surround-view camera
  • Adaptive cruise contrtol
  • Head-up display

Competition
6.0/10

2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer vs 2022 Cadillac Escalade

The Grand Wagoneer is superior to the Cadillac Escalade in a lot of things. It delivers spry acceleration and its towing capacity is the highest in the segment. Both the SUVs are luxurious inside but the Wagoneer's cabin gets more technological features. The Escalade has an upper hand in fuel economy, a slightly better cargo capacity, a longer list of safety features, and more importantly, a lower price tag.

2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer vs 2022 Lincoln Navigator

The Lincoln Navigator holds up quite well with the Grand Wagoneer. Both of them have stunning exteriors while the interiors are flooded with luxury. The Navigator offers a spacious third-row while the Wagoneer offers the latest infotainment features and more cargo space. The Wagoneer is also a better performer on the road and is a tow master while the Navigator gets a better gas mileage and is comparatively cheaper.

2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer vs 2022 BMW X7

The BMW X7 is the most affordable vehicle in this competition. Although its base engine is underpowered, its agility is matched with the Wagoneer. Its fuel economy is also the best but has an underwhelming towing capacity. The X7's cabin is opulent but its third-row and cargo space are smaller than the Wagoneer. The latter is pricier but it seems a much better option if you are bored of German brands.

Final Verdict

The 2022 Grand Wagoneer is a valuable addition to Jeep's lineup with almost everything you could seek. It has all the modern-day technologies coupled with driver aid safety features, robust interior designs with flagship materials like leather and wood. Also, the performance is on the higher side but do not expect decent fuel economy as it is heavier and delivers uncompromised power. We have to recognize whether the Grand Wagoneer lives up to the hype it created, after the launch.
