Overview

The Subaru Ascent is known for its spacious cabin and tremendous capabilities and competes in a very crowded three-row SUV segment. The 2024 Subaru Ascent remains unchanged over the previous model year as it received a major facelift with several feature updates as well. Check out the video below by "Ben Hardy" for a closer real-world look at the 2024 Ascent.

Marketed as the largest SUV from the brand, the 2024 Subaru Ascent for sale is available in 6 trim configurations with prices starting at $34,395 and going all the way up to $48,695 for the 2024 Subaru Ascent Touring model, and that's excluding the $1,345 destination fee. That's a whopping $500 price hike for a carryover model! While it is one of the most promising upcoming Subaru cars, the Subaru Ascent hybrid 2024 is still a miss.

The 2024 Subaru Ascent specs are unchanged this year and hence get the same 2.3L turbocharged H4 with 260 hp and 277 lb-ft output which is paired with a CVT automatic transmission and standard AWD drivetrain. With that, it manages a 0-60 of 6.9 seconds and boasts a maximum towing capacity of 5,000 pounds which is enough to haul snowmobiles or even an Airstream camper. The Subaru Ascent 2024 is a proud member of the SUV segment, locking horns with SUVs like the Honda Pilot, the Ford Explorer, the Toyota Highlander, and the latest Mazda CX-90

Buying Advice

Since there is only a single powertrain on offer across all trims, we prefer opting for the 2024 Subaru Ascent Onyx Edition with a starting price of $41,795. Although this 2024 Subaru Ascent configuration is available only in a 7-seat layout it adds plenty of creature comforts to the mix.

Apart from the higher 5,000 lbs towing capacity and an upgraded all-wheel-drive system, it features unique black styling, water-repellent synthetic leather upholstery, a heated steering wheel, LED foglights, a panoramic sunroof, a power liftgate, and more.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

The 2024 Subaru Ascent is rated to return 20 MPG in the city, 26 MPG on the highways, and 22 MPG combined. The large 19.3-gallon fuel tank capacity translates to a maximum drive range of 500 miles. All this while managing to do the 0-60 MPH sprint in 6.9 seconds and has a top speed of 130 MPH. In terms of reliability, the 84/100 J.D. Power reliability rating is amongst the best, shared by the Kia Telluride

The Subaru Ascent interior offers plenty of space for all passengers in the front two rows but the third row is best suited for kids. That said, the cargo space of 17.8 cu-ft is pretty impressive which can be extended to 43.5 cu-ft and 75.6 cu-ft of cargo space by folding the third and fourth row respectively. The NHTSA has rated the 2024 Ascent with a perfect 5-star rating while the IIHS has awarded it with their prestigious "Top Safety Pick" accolade for the 2023 model year.

Expect the 5-year cost of ownership for the Ascent 2024 to be around the $49,900 mark which is a bit high as per the segment standards. The monthly payment for the Ascent starts at $651 for a 60-month duration at 5.9% along with a $2,000 down payment. Lease deals begin at $479/month for a tenure of 36 months and annual mileage of 12,000 miles with no down payment required.
