Overview

Only been around for 5 years now, the Genesis G90 has taken the luxury sedan market by storm with its radical design and an extremely competitive package, both in terms of interior and performance, at a much lower price than the old and strong German luxury sedans in the segment.

Buying Advice

Since there is no clear information about the trims and features of the upcoming sedan, we cannot recommend anything as of now. But we assume that the car will be offered in a completely loaded form like the outgoing model hence the base trim itself will suffice most of the buyers.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

The new Genesis G90 has been kept under tight wraps by the brand and not much is known about the upcoming vehicle. But from the leaked images and information, the sedan will come with a reworked exterior design as well as interior design.

Features
8.0/10

There is extremely limited information about the upcoming 2022 Genesis G90 sedan let alone its trims and features. But what we know so far is that the brand will drop the V8 powertrain. The 2021 Genesis G90 sedan was completely loaded right from its base trim and is offered in two trims differentiated solely with the engine option.

Some of the highlighted features of the outgoing model are Tri-zone automatic climate control, faux-suede headliner, ambient lighting for the interior, ventilated front seats, heated steering wheel, and a 17-speaker Lexicon audio system among other features. We expect that the new sedan will retain all the existing features and will arrive with more.

Fuel Economy
7.5/10

Apart from the dull driving experience, fuel economy is where the G90 lacked seriously as compared to its rivals. Both the 3.3-liter V6 and the 5.0-liter V8 were gas guzzlers and the sedan returned some lower than average EPA ratings. The overall driving range is also one of the lowest in the class despite having a sizable gas tank holding about 22 gallons of fuel.

No leaked or official information is available about the fuel economy ratings of the upcoming G90 sedan. However, with the new powertrain on the line, we expect the fuel economy figures to improve to quite some extent if not significantly. With the new powertrain, we expect the EPA ratings to go up to a certain level where the sedan can be at par with its pricier rivals.

Interior
9.0/10

The 2022 Genesis G90 interior is touted to be not so different from the outgoing model but nothing is confirmed yet. The dashboard design might be slightly reworked and we expect even more luxury features alongside the features already on offer with the outgoing sedan. The 2021 Genesis G90 features a complete and tech-rich cabin with sumptuous levels of comfort and a premium build. There might be some high-end features missing from it which we can find on its German rivals such as the 7 Series and the S Class sedans.

The outgoing model offers the least trunk space as compared to its direct rivals but it remains to be seen if there will be any improvements in this area. Presently, the G90 offers the best front-seat space as compared to its rivals. Some standout interior features in the 2022 Genesis G90 are:

  • Power side and rear sunshades
  • Tri-zone automatic climate control
  • Heated and ventilated front seats
  • Heated rear seats
  • Soft-close doors

2022 Genesis G90: Infotainment and Connectivity

The outgoing G90 sedan offers an excellent infotainment system along with a big 12.3-inch touch screen display. The user interface is fluid with easily understandable menu items and layouts, like the ones we see in other Hyundai and Kia vehicles. Nothing is known about the upcoming G90’s infotainment system but there are ample reasons to believe that it will be quite similar to the unit we’ve seen on the recently released GV80. Some of the highlighted infotainment features of the current model are:

  • 12.3-inch touch screen display
  • Android Auto and Apple CarPlay
  • A 17-speaker Lexicon surround-sound system
  • Wireless device charging
  • Navigation
  • Satellite radio and HD Radio
  • Bluetooth

Exterior
7.0/10

The 2022 Genesis G90 exterior design is expected to be refreshed, although by a slight margin maybe. From the spy shots, it is evident that the sedan will get the brand’s “Athletic Elegance” design language which is truly elegant as compared to the German rivals. Also, the upcoming sedan will get a proper split headlight design as opposed to the outgoing model’s vague split headlamp design.

The front grille is expected to be quite similar to the current design but the significantly more protruding side vents indicate an even more aggressive front fascia design. The side profile is set to be similar to the present model but the rear quarter window will see a new design.

The 2021 G90 sedan is no less than its mighty German rivals in terms of design and appeal and even manages to be more attractive than them with its radical design cues. The upcoming design will be more futuristic as opposed to the mainstream design and proportions of the BMW 7 Series and the Mercedes-Benz S-Class. The Lexus LS 500 has a different set of buyers courtesy of its polarizing design language. Some exterior features of the present G90 sedan are:

  • All-LED headlights with automatic high-beam assist
  • Puddle lamps
  • Electrically folding side mirrors with heating function
  • Automatic defogging
  • Soft-closing doors
  • Automatic rain-sensing wipers

Safety
8.0/10

Nothing, absolutely nothing is known about the safety features that will be available with the upcoming 2022 G90 sedan. The outgoing model comes with a long list of active safety features that puts it in the league with pricier German luxury sedans in terms of safety.

The IIHS also gave the 2021 G90 the highest possible ratings along with the prestigious Top Safety Pick + award indicating its superior safety stats. The NHTSA never crash-tested the sedan. Some of the highlighted safety features of the sedan include:

  • Lane-keeping system
  • Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert
  • Blind-spot camera
  • Blind-spot intervention
  • Driver attention warning
  • 360-degree camera system
  • Head-up display

Final Verdict

Like the outgoing model, the upcoming Genesis G90 sedan will also offer immense value for money to luxury car shoppers. With a lot of heat around the expected features and design of the 2022 G90, we expect it to give even more competition to the mainstream German Luxury sedans and to continue to be the same value for money option for those who don’t want to spend six-digit figures for a big luxury sedan.
