Overview

With a racy design and Camaro-inspired styling inside-out, the 2022 Chevy Blazer stands out in the 2-row midsize SUV class. The 2022 Chevrolet Blazer starts at $33,400 with FWD while all-wheel-drive (AWD) models start from $36,100. The top-range Premier trim with the V6 engine and AWD begins at $44,000. On top of the stand-out looks, even with a base 228-hp turbo four-cylinder engine, the Blazer is better to drive than its competitors. The big changes to the 2022 Chevy Blazer include the discontinuation of the previously standard 193-hp 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, which means L or 1LT trim levels are retired.

For 2022, the Chevy Blazer gets two new paint color options: Nitro Yellow and Blue Glow. All trims except the top-of-the-line Premier trim are now available with a two-tone paint scheme. The Premier is available with an Enhanced Convenience package now, too. Moreover, the 2022 Chevy Blazer offers a maximum towing capacity of 4,500 lbs and an interior cargo volume of 64.2 cu-ft. In addition to that, it has been released for sale with a starting lease deal of $229/month for 36 months with a $3,249 down payment. The Chevy Blazer competes against the shares of the other mid-size SUVs such as the Hyundai Santa Fe, Ford Edge, and the Toyota RAV4.

Buying Advice

The Premier trim is the one that should be chosen among them. Extended leather upholstery along with adaptive cruise control and navigation unit stands up for the high tech-end stature of this trim. The availability of the Chevrolet Infotainment 3 Plus System with an 8-inch diagonal HD color touchscreen and Bose Premium 8-Speaker Audio System extends its interior engagement. Therefore, Premier configuration with AWD layout for increased traction at $ $45,195 might seem to be the most expensive but is surely a logical one.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

"The 2022 Chevy Blazer is a decent midsize SUV, but its sporty design leaves it with too many compromises." - cars.usnew

The Chevy Blazer sees some minor changes for 2022 including a streamlined trim lineup after the retirement of the previously standard 193 hp 2.5L engine. New exterior color options along with two-tone color contrasts are available. The 2022 Blazer is available in 2LT, 3LT, RS, and Premier trim, with pricing starting from $33,400. The 228 hp 2.0L Turbo I-4 is now the standard powertrain that can tow 3500 lbs. You can upgrade to a stronger 308 hp V-6 engine that increases towing prowess to 4,500 lbs.

The insurance cost of the 2022 Chevy Blazer is estimated at around $3,985 in 5 years. In addition to that, it receives a J.D.Power Rating of 84 that vouches for its high reliability resulting in a higher resale value of $20,275 after 5-year ownership. Meanwhile, the fuel cost of $10,652 and repairing estimation of $818 are also impressive in its overall financial dynamics. On the whole, the total cost to own a 2022 Blazer comes to be nearly $47,184 in the same aforementioned timeline.

"Interior space is just okay for its class, but we are big fans of the interior design of the Blazer." - Kelley Blue Book

The interior of the 2022 Chevy Blazer is a blend of spaciousness and premium accents. The transition does occur from premium cloth in the 2LT to Jet Black Perforated Leatherette in 3LT to Maple Sugar Perforated Leather Upholstery in the Premier trim. Along with that comes the 8-way driver and 6-way passenger power adjustable seats in the front as standard from 3LT trim onward that can be upgraded to ventilated and heating functions in the Premier trim.

The 2022 Chevrolet Blazer gets 60/40-split rear seats in the back. This allows one to have a cargo capacity ranging from 30.5 cu-ft to 64.2 cu-ft at max once folded. Including all these, there are additional packages as well such as the Enhanced Convenience Package at $1,660 with which heated rear seats, ventilated front seats, power tilt steering are added to the standard feature list.

"With a fierce face and chiseled bodywork, the 2022 Chevy Blazer is arguably the most assertive-looking mid-size crossover in its class." - Car And Driver

The 2022 Chevy Blazer remains unchanged dimension-wise and retains that Camaro-like design philosophy. However, there are new exterior colors available such as the Nitro Yellow Metallic and Blue Glow Metallic. In addition to these, there are 7 other exterior accents too. Moreover, the IntelliBeam auto high beam and High-Intensity Discharge Headlamps make up for the front fascia appeal and functionality.

The 2022 Chevrolet Blazer rides on 18-inch, 20-inch, and 21-inch wheels with respective all-season Blackwall tires. It can be opted with a power programmable liftgate in the rear and panoramic power sunroof on top depending on the trim level. If base stance does not suffice you, one can avail of the Midnight/Sport Edition and Redline Edition at price tags of $645 and $1,895 respectively for the 3LT trim.

On the other hand, the Santa Fe comes out to be more compact as it is 200 lbs lighter, 4-inch shorter, and 2-inch less wide than the Blaze. This helps Santa Fe in having better off-road handling and driving pursuit.

Safety

"For 2022, Chevy's Safety Assist bundle becomes standard in all Blazer grades." - MotorTrend

Since there is no mechanical change in the 2022 Chevy Blazer, one can expect the same safety ratings of 5-star by NHTSA and "Good" by IIHS from the 2021 model year. Unfortunately, it does not make it to the Top Safety Pick Award by the IIHS. However, it has been armed with the standard Chevy Safety Assist that includes features such as:

  • Automatic Emergency Braking
  • Forward Collision Alert
  • Front Pedestrian Braking
  • Lane Keep Assist
  • Intellibeam
  • Lane Departure Warning

Competition

2022 Chevrolet Blazer vs 2022 Ford Edge

The 2022 Chevrolet Blazer has got an edge over the 2022 Ford Edge in acceleration parameter. However, the Edge levels the ground against the former with better cabin space and mileage return. On the whole, Ford gets the preference here for a better practicality index and daily drive.

2022 Chevrolet Blazer vs 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe

The 2022 Chevrolet Blazer has more power surge but that takes a toll on its range economy. As a result, Santa Fe comes out to have better fuel mileage and range reach than the former. Not just that, even the cargo volume favors the latter despite having parallel seating room in both rows. Therefore, the Hyundai appears to be a better proposition.

2022 Chevrolet Blazer vs 2022 Toyota RAV4

Both the 2022 Toyota RAV4 and the 2022 Chevy Blazer have equal spaciousness inside the cabin except for the cargo capacity. However, the Chevy Blazer has got that extra power performance simply because of its higher hp. To counter that, the RAV4 offers more fuel efficiency and that too at a far cheaper price tag. So, for cost-effectiveness, one can go for the Toyota over Chevy Blazer.

Final Verdict

The 2022 Chevy Blazer has got that practicality and power surge. On top of that, it has an inspiring safety suite as well with easy drive handling. However, all these characteristics fall short when pitted against rivals. Therefore, it can be considered once one is done with analyzing the Ford Edge or Hyundai Santa Fe.
