Overview

The Chevrolet Blazer is a midsize SUV with a sleek and modern design. What started off as an off-road blazing truck is today an on-road 5-seater family SUV. The SUV has undergone a lot of drastic changes over the years and has reached its current iterations. The Blazer offers a wide range of trims to choose from. It also comes equipped with a lot of convenience features as standard.

Buying Advice

It could be a bit confusing selecting the engine, drivetrain, and trims for the Chevrolet Blazer. However, we would recommend the 3LT FWD 2L engine configurations and slap an additional package to it. According to us, we feel that is the perfect value for money proposition as a daily family driver. If you are requirements, vary you have a lot of options to choose from.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

With the 2023 model year, there are a couple of changes that the company has introduced. Starting with the front fascia, the design has improved to a sportier and aggressive look with an all-black front grille. It also gets a new LED headlamp setup and redesigned LED taillamps. The main infotainment system has been upgraded to a 10.2-inch screen. We expect the Chevy Blazer to start at an MSRP of $34,800 for the base trim LT with a 2.0L turbocharged engine. Let us see how the 2023 model fares against its arch rivals the Ford Edge, the Hyundai Santa Fe, and the Nissan Murano.

Features
8.0/10

There is not much information available regarding the trims that will be available but we believe that Chevy is going to continue with the existing trims for the 2023 Blazer. We expect a few minor tweaks on the package options and certain packages will be available throughout all the trims. Same as before the Blazer will be available in 2 engine configurations that is a 2.0 liter inline 4 engine and a 3.6 Litre V6 engine. Blazer will have two drivetrain options the FWD and the AWD. The expected MSRP for base trim is $34,800 going all the way until $ 46,795. Let us compare each of the trims and understand the various features available to these trims.

Fuel Economy
7.0/10

Fuel economy is not a stronghold of the Chevrolet Blazer. It gets 22 MPG in the city, 29 MPG on the highway, for a combined MPG of 24. It has a 19.4 gallons fuel tank that gives a range of 427 in the city, and 563 on the highway. The Blazer’s bigger 3.6L engine returns 19 MPG in the city, and 26 PMG on the highway, giving it a combined MPG of 21.

The Chevy Blazer falls short of the MPG figures in the city just above the Ford Edge at 22 MPG in the city. The Hyundai Santa Fe offers the best in class mileage at 25 MPG in the city. When it comes to the highway MPG figures the Blazer and the Ford Edge tops the list with an MPG of 29 and a close second of 28 MPG by the Santa FE and the Murano. In the combined MPG, the Santa Fe tops the list with an MPG figure of 26. The Blazer has compensated for the low MPG figures with its bigger fuel tank, which gives it a total range of 427/563/466, right below the Santa Fe and above the Ford Edge and the Nissan Murano.

Interior
6.0/10

The Chevrolet Blazer offers good interior comfort even though not spacious compared to its competitors. It offers a host of convenience features as standard. The front bucket seat uses premium cloth and plastic materials for the dashboard. The rear seat also has air vents and gets dual-zone climate control. One thing we have noticed with the previous year's Blazer is the less wind and sound isolation inside the cabin. We expect this issue to be resolved by Chevrolet in the 2023 model year. The cargo space on the Blazer is also very less compared to its competition with just 30.5 cubic feet. The Blazer offers good comfort to front and rear passengers and the passenger space even though not the best in class offers ample space for a family SUV.

In terms of the front row spaciousness the Ford Edge and the Hyundai Santa Fe offers similar figures with most headroom and legroom on the Santa Fe and better shoulder room on the Ford Edge. The Santa Fe offers a bit more space on the front row compared to the Ford Edge. In terms of second-row spaciousness, the Ford Edge is the most spacious followed by the Santa Fe, and third position by the Blazer. Overall in terms of spaciousness, the Blazer has the third position among its rivals. In terms of cargo space, the Ford Edge is the clear winner with a boot space of 39.2 cubic feet.

Some of the key interior features available with the 2023 Chevrolet Blazer are:

  • 2-way adjustable front and rear head restraints
  • 8-way power driver seat
  • Digital compass
  • Driver and front passenger visors with illuminated mirrors
  • Dual-zone automatic climate control
  • Electronic locking glove box

How intuitive is the 2023 Chevrolet Blazers’s infotainment system?

Chevrolet is introducing the new 10.2-inch diagonal HD color touchscreen infotainment screen on the new 2023 Blazer. The Blazer also gets wireless charging as well as a mobile hotspot as standard across all trims. It gets a standard 6-speaker audio setup as standard. It also supports most of the modern-day features like Android Auto and Apple Carplay. The older infotainment system was a bit glitchy on the Blazer and we believe the upgraded 10.2 inch system has better processing power and is more user-friendly.

Some of the most notable infotainment features available with the 2023 Chevrolet Blazer are

  • Bluetooth Connectivity
  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • Voice commands
  • 6 Speaker Audio System
  • SiriusXM® 3-month Platinum Trial Subscription

Exterior
7.0/10

Blazer is the longest in terms of its exterior dimensions with a total length of 191.4 inches and wider by 76.7 inches. The Blazer stands at a height of 67 inches with a ground clearance of 7.4 inches which gives it a bit off road capabilities. It has a wheelbase of 112.7 inches and a curb weight of 3782 lbs.

The Blazer’s exterior designs undergoes some minor changes emboldening the muscular stance of the car. It gets new sleek LED headlamps and tail light designs, the newly styled front fascia also adds a sportier look to the SUV. We feel currently in the segment the Blazer is a better looking SUV.

The Nissan Murano is the longest in the segment. The Blazer has the highest wheelbase which affects its maneuverability in tight spaces. In terms of maneuverability, we feel the Santa Fe does a better job with its shorter length and wheelbase. The Ford Edge has the highest ground clearance at 8 inches making it more suitable for some light offroading. In terms of height also the Ford Edge is the tallest at 68.3 inches.

Some standout exterior features include:

  • New and LED headlight and taillight design
  • Daytime running lights
  • Capless fuel filler
  • Blazer signature grille
  • Body colored mirror caps and door handles.
  • Deep-tinted glass

Safety
7.0/10

The Chevy Blazer comes with a host of standard safety features making it one of the safest cars. It is equipped with 7 airbags offering good occupant safety. Apart from this it comes equipped with emergency braking, following distance indicator, forward collision alert, front pedestrian braking, lane keep assist, and lane departure warnings. NHTSA has given an overall rating of 5 stars for the Blazer. It gets an individual crash test rating of 5 stars for the front driver side, 4 stars for the front passenger side, and 5 stars for the side impact for both front and rear seats. The car has a 4-star rollover rating with a rollover risk of 15.5%. In terms of the competition, all cars have a good crash test rating and the Blazer slightly falls behind its competition but that is nothing to be concerned about.

Other standout safety features include

  • Automatic emergency braking
  • Following distance indicator
  • Forward collision alert
  • Front pedestrian braking
  • Tire pressure monitoring system
  • Rear vision camera

Competition

2023 Chevrolet Blazer vs 2022 Ford Edge

The Ford Edge offers better space and comparable MPG with the Blazer. Performance-wise, the Blazer is slightly better than the Ford Edge. The Blazer is also an affordable option than the Ford. In terms of safety, both cars offer good safety for the occupant. The higher ground clearance on the Ford edge makes it better in off road driving conditions. The Ford Edge gives some tough competition to its rival and we feel both are very good SUVs. We would recommend the Blazer over the Ford Edge taking into consideration its performance and affordability of it.

2023 Chevrolet Blazer vs 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe

The Blazer is better in terms of performance compared to the Hyundai Santa Fe. Both SUVs offer comparable interior space but in terms of trunk space, the Santa Fe has the bigger trunk. Santa Fe also performs well in the fuel economy department making it a considerably appealing option as a family SUV. Santa Fe also has the better maneuverability among the two making it much more desirable in city driving conditions. Hence we would suggest the Santa Fe over the Blazer.

2023 Chevrolet Blazer vs 2022 Nissan Murano

The Nissan Murano has comparatively better interior space and cargo space than the Blazer and offers similar MPG figures but is slightly better than the Murano. In terms of performance, the Blazer has better figures even though the Murano has a bigger V6 engine as standard. In terms of size, both are almost similar but the Murano is the longest in its class by 1.4 inches but has a shorter wheelbase compared to the Blazer making it better at maneuverability. The Murano is more affordable by a few hundred dollars but we feel the Blazer is a better option as it has more features as standards and has better styling.

Final Verdict

The 2023 Chevrolet Blazer is a mid-cyle refresh model. Overall, we expect it to be better than the previous year's model in terms of styling. As a mid-cycle refresh model apart from exterior styling, nothing has changed much. The midsize SUV is an apt daily driver family car but we feel that it is not better than the competition. The competition is better value for money compared to the Blazer. According to us, the Hyundai Santa Fe is the better value for money proposition as it offers better MPG, better reliability, and a comparable interior space with Chevrolet Blazer. The Santa Fe also scores on affordability. What makes the Blazer an exciting option is its choice of various different configurations which we can opt from.
