Overview

Hyundai has been catering to a vast segment with multiple models under its portfolio. The Hyundai Palisade is their largest flagship SUV model that is preparing a facelift for the 2023 model year. The Palisade will be spread across multiple trim levels, giving the buyers an affordable option as well as a super luxurious and fully blown out Calligraphy variant. Apart from the new boxed-out front fascia that makes the palisade look more rugged, the midsize SUV also gets a new XRT trim that sits right in between the base and the top variant. This new variant will carry a more urban look to it with larger wheels and darker accents instead of chrome. Apart from the exterior, the 2023 Hyundai Palisade will receive a refreshed interior and additional features.

Buying Advice

There isn’t any differentiation between various trims in terms of the engines used and hence, buyers don’t necessarily have to spend big money to attain the best value. We find the SEL to be the trim that poses a value-for-money deal as it does not cost much more than the base SE and also carries a decent list of features that include heated front seats as well as keyless entry.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

The upgrade will not only happen to the design and equipment list but also to the pricing, which makes the 2023 Hyundai Palisade available for a base price of $36,300. The Palisade Calligraphy will sell for $51,700, which is over $3,000 over the outgoing model. Hyundai won’t be making any changes to what’s under the hood and will mechanically remain the same but is said to be a much better vehicle in terms of the overall feel and drive, which is very important for a vehicle going up against SUVs like the Nissan Pathfinder, the Toyota Highlander, and the Kia Telluride.

Features
9.0/10

The trim levels for 2023 will see a new addition in the form of XRT trim that falls after the SE and SEL variants. Limited and Calligraphy trims stay on top with oodles of features with all the trims receiving a new cabin layout. The 2023 Hyundai Palisade might look identical to the outgoing model from the side or rear as exterior changes have been done to only the Fascia. The base SE variant will ride on a set of 18-inch wheels with an 8-inch touchscreen that supports both Apple CarPlay as well as Android Auto. The Palisade is large enough to carry 8 occupants but users have the option to opt for the second-row captain seats that will shorten the passenger hold by 1 person. All the variants come standard with FWD system while AWD is available as an option.

Release Date

The official release date for the 2023 Hyundai Palisade hasn’t been revealed but the SUV is most likely to hit the dealer by the end of 2022 or early 2023.

Fuel Economy
7.0/10

Since the Palisade comes with a standard powertrain across all trims, the vehicle offers a uniform fuel efficiency but the numbers do vary depending on whether it is an AWD or FWD model. The Palisade in the base configuration puts out 22 mpg in a combined drive condition while the AWD variant will get that number down to 21 mpg.

Both the Palisade, as well as the Telluride, ranks lower with identical figures while the Toyota Highlander takes the lead in terms of fuel efficiency and the total range despite the SUV carrying a smaller gas tank than its rivals. The Nissan Pathfinder closely follows in second place with a very similar combined range to the Toyota.

Interior
9.0/10

The cabin of the Hyundai Palisade will receive a minor refresh for the interior, making it look much more premium and upscale than it already was. The brand has worked on making the drive as quiet as possible and the 2023 Palisade eliminates a lot of the wind and road noise when compared to the previous model. This SUV is massive and even offers decent space in the third row which houses ample cushioning and also an option for heated seats on the higher trim. Most of the controls are well laid out except for a few on the center stack. The ergonomics in the Palisade give the driver a well-surrounded view from the cockpit and shorter drivers can adjust the seating height to make the car much more suiting. The rear passengers will find the cabin comfortable too and the door open wide, making the entry and exit an easy task. The second row can be configured with the optional captain’s chairs that can be folded with a click of a button, making a clear and wide path for the third row to have easy accessibility.

The Hyundai Palisade carries the most balanced cabin as all three rows offer ample space to the occupants and despite being based on the same platform, Kia chose to shorten the driver’s legroom in order to provide a larger cargo space even while all the seats are upright. Both eth Hyundai and Kia offer a very similar maximum cargo space, placing themselves on the top but the Nissan ends up offering the least amount of cargo space.

Some standout interior features on the 2023 Hyundai Palisade include

  • Height adjustable driver seat
  • Leather-wrapped steering wheel
  • Dual-zone automatic climate control
  • Rear seat quiet mode
  • Power folding second-row
  • Ventilated first and second-row seats

How intuitive is the 2023 Hyundai Palisade infotainment system?

The Palisade does not compromise in terms of the tech it offers and comes standard fit with an 8.0-inch infotainment screen that gets upgraded to a 12.0-inch module on the higher trims. The system will support both wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and drivers will directly face a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel by picking the Limited or Calligraphy trim. These top-end trims also get a 12-speaker Harman Kardon stereo system that replaces the 8-speaker setup found on the base trim. Users also get 5-USB ports as standard and picking the convenience pack will further add 2-USB ports in the third row.

Some of the standout infotainment features on the 2023 Hyundai Palisade are

  • 12-speaker Harman Kardon stereo system
  • 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster
  • 12.0-inch infotainment screen
  • Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • 5-USB ports

Exterior
7.0/10

The 2023 Hyundai Palisade will follow the similar styling of the outgoing model but gets more boxy and rugged on the front fascia with a completely redesigned grille and headlight unit. The Palisade gets more chrome than before but from the sides and rear, the SUV looks familiar. The XRT and Calligraphy have unique trim-specific styling elements, making them stand out from the other trims. The XRT being the new addition to the line-up has a more urban sporty appeal, thanks to its blacked-out exterior trim, rugged lower lip, and side skirts along with a roof rain completing the tough character that this trim intends to put out. The XRT also gets exclusive blacked-out 20-inch alloy wheels over the standard silver wheels. Move to the Calligraphy and you get a lot more chrome on the grille than the lower variants with wheels specially designed for the top variant and will retain the large central LED brake light.

The Hyundai, Nissan, and the Kia share a very similar length and identical wheelbase, making all 3 SUVs similar in terms of proportions. The Toyota is slightly on the shorter side in comparison but comes with very good ground clearance. The Palisade is on the lighter side when it comes to the curb weight and this helps improve the drive and the way the whole car behaves.

Some of the standout exterior features include

  • 18 or 20-inch alloy wheels
  • Wide LED brake light
  • LED headlights
  • Hands-free tailgate
  • Automatic windshield wipers

Safety
9.0/10

The 2023 Hyundai Palisade is well equipped in terms of safety tech and features. The car carries automatic emergency braking, rearview camera, automatic high beam, Parkin sensors, active lane control, and adaptive cruise control as standard. Users can pick the higher trims if they intend to add features like a 360-degree camera, rear cross-traffic alert blind spot monitor, and downhill assist. The 2023 Hyundai Palisade is yet to be crash tested by top agencies but the 2022 model that is based on the same platform has scores really well that NHTSA scored the car 5-stars and IIHS rated the Palisade “Good” in almost all aspects and awarded the SUV the ”Top Safety Pick +” title. The same can be the results for the 2023 model.

Some of the standout safety features available with the 2023 Hyundai Palisade are

  • 360-degree camera
  • Rear cross-traffic alert
  • Blind-spot monitor
  • Front and rear parking sensors
  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Hill assist

Competition

2023 Hyundai Palisade vs 2023 Nissan Pathfinder

The Pathfinder is a very engaging and fun SUV to drive, unlike the laid-out character that the Palisade has. Drive isn’t the only segment where Nissan outruns Hyundai as it holds a slight advantage in terms of fuel efficiency as well. However, moving towards the cabin tech, styling, and the overall space offered and the Palisade revives itself to emerge on top. Hyundai is also the more comfortable vehicle out of the two and holds the better value when compared, making it the ideal pick.

2023 Hyundai Palisade vs 2023 Toyota Highlander

Toyota has always been known for its reliability and the Highlander carries forward that reputation but that doesn’t mean Hyundai offers no reliability. Even though the Highlander has a slightly better gas mileage, the Palisade just feels much more premium and spacious, especially in the third row, making it the better family vehicle and the more practical choice of the two.

2023 Hyundai Palisade vs 2023 Kia Telluride

Both these SUVs are basically the same and carry identical mechanicals and are based on the same platform but there are a few differences that put them apart. The Kia Telluride has a more squared-out design while the Hyundai Palisade looks much more complicated and upscale with intricate design elements. The ride setting on the Telluride is on the harder side and is much more driver-focused while the Palisade is the more comfortable option out of the two and feels much more refined and quieter.

Final Verdict

Hyundai has definitely placed itself in between tough rivals but that really didn’t do much damage to the Palisade. With the new 2023 refresh treatment, the Hyundai Palisade looks much more premium and drool-worthy. Despite not having changed the powertrain, Hyundai has worked on making the SUV more refined and has successfully achieved it as the cabin ow doesn’t let much of the wind noise or the tire noise seep in. Users will not be disappointed by the list of features this behemoth of an SUV offers but the buyer looking for a lot of drive engagement and sharp handling characteristics might have to reconsider as the Palisade majorly focuses on comfort and refinement.

Pros - ["Family vehicle", "Amazing room inside", "Very comfortable to drive"]

Cons - ["Sunroof leaked a week after owning it", "Ac blows really weak in the rear", "Floor carpet is hard to clean"]

I love the palisade it's a great family vehicle. It hold my big family with carseats . Kids have enough space to not fight with each other. I love the passenger talk to I no longer have to strain my voice to talk to the kids. The vented seat are awesome especially in this florida heat ð¥µ
