Overview

For more than three decades, the Hyundai Elantra has been a mainstay of the South Korean automaker's line-up. Although the competition with other compact sedans like the Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla, or even Kia Forte hasn't always been close, it is in 2023. The most recent Elantra, which had a facelift just two years ago will continue for 2023 at an affordable starting price, with a long list of features, and styling that stands out from the blandness of other compact cars on the road. The base Elantra is expected to start selling for $21,500 and go all the way to $27,445. Hyundai will also offer a hybrid variant and two sporty variants under the N performance branding.

Buying Advice

The SEL, in our opinion, offers the greatest overall value. It represents a significant improvement over the base SE trim and allows you the opportunity to add more technology features if you choose. It is also wise to add options to the SEL than picking the Limited trim as the price gap between the two is rather large.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

Even though the Elantra is a carry-over model, Hyundai has made the 10.3-inch touchscreen and 17-inch wheels available in the convenience package available for the mid-tier Elantra. The Elantra will carry the same 2.0-liter inline-4 cylinder engine with no tuning or re-map done to it for the new model year. Adrenaline junkies can opt for the N-line which pumps out 201 horses or go bonkers by picking the 276 horsepower variant, the Elantra N. Since this is a budget-friendly sedan, the cabin houses a lot of hard plastics but Hyundai slightly compromised quality by offering a long list of features.

Hyundai will also sell hybrid variants under Blue and Limited trims and performance variants under N-line and N trims. The standard Elantra will start at $21,500 for the base SE trim and move up a notch to $22,845 for the SEL and $27,445 for the Limited trim. Some standard features include automatic emergency braking, high beam assist, an 8-inch touchscreen, 15-inch alloy wheels, and cloth upholstery. Hyundai also offers a connected car service called Bluelink from SEL trim onwards and also adds a proximity key and push-start button. Moving to the Limited trim brings in a few premium touches like leather upholstery and Bose audio system.

Since there isn't much of a difference or changes made, the 2023 Hyundai Elantra will hit the dealers towards the end of 2022 and the buyers will not have to wait for the year 2023.

Fuel economy is clearly something that this sedan is good at as the average claim in a combined drive condition is 37 mpg and stick to just highways to obtain 43 mpg. These numbers are impressive and at times, Elantra also offers more range than what has been claimed. A 12.4-liter fuel tank isn’t the largest but it sure is ample when the gas mileage is on the higher side.

The Hyundai Elantra yet again tops the table with class-leading gas mileage and overall range despite having a smaller tank than its rivals. The Elantra will run for at least 458 miles without needing to stop for a fuel break. The sibling brand Kia offers to push out a great overall range due to its larger tank. Both Toyota and Honda offer identical gas mileage but the ranges differ as the Toyota carries a larger fuel tank.

The Elantra has a lower seating position than the previous generation model and expands to almost mid-size dimensions. The inside is larger, but the seats could need more padding, and the interior trim is unappealing. Keeping the mediocre quality aside, the cabin comes in the shades of Melange, Black, and Gray with the SE and SEL receiving a cloth treatment for their seats. Move up to the Limited and users get leather upholstered seats with a heating function on the front thrones. The Limited trim is further enhanced by a black headliner and sporty alloy foot pedals. The steering wheel comes with tilt and telescopic adjustment while the driver seat can be height adjusted to find the right posture for various drivers. Users picking the SEL trim can also opt for the Convenience package which costs almost $1,000 and will bring in features like the heated front seats and leather-wrapped steering wheel into the mid-segment.

The Hyundai and Honda sedans offer the largest passenger space with almost similar dimensions, making these cars very comfortable. How intuitive is the 2023 Hyundai Elantra infotainment system?

The twin display displays in the Elantra Limited, one for the infotainment system and the other for the instruments, are easy to operate. Menus and instructions on the infotainment screen are simple to understand and navigate. In addition, the Elantra earns bonus points for offering wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, but this is offered only on the 8-inch touchscreen screen. Confusingly, the smartphone integration method needs a wired connection to operate on the larger 10.25-inch screen. Users will also get an 8-speaker Bose audio system on the Limited but can also be availed on the SEL trim as an additional option. The voice activation function is by far one of the best ever experienced as it picks commands and instructions without any delay and needs to repeat sentences.

The 2023 Elantra retains the design and it doesn’t look dated by any means as the aggressive and angular look that this sedan wears makes other modern sedans look old-school. Both the Elantra and Civic are on the larger side when it comes to the proportions, making them feel much more spacious while the Corolla and Forte feel slightly smaller. Best choice for a new car!

Pros - ["Hybrid (gas saver)", "Luxury and comfort", "Leather seats"]

Cons - ["feels a little sluggish at times in ECO mode", "doesn't have the 360 degree camera", "doesn't have power passenger seat"]

I bought this car because it was a hybrid, and needed something good on gas. Boy, Was in in for a surprise. This car is amazing and has EVRYTHING i could want in a new car. Its got 55? highway, loads of power, and its super luxurious with a price point in the low 30k's

Best bang for the buck!

Pros - ["Designed beautifully", "Great gas mileage", "Comfortable interior design"]

Cons - ["Small back seat", "Weird radio configuration", "High matinence cost"]

I really enjoy my Elantra. It's great on gas and has enough size to be completely comfortable. I highly recommend it to anyone that's looking for a gas saver. Although if you are looking for a family car, I wouldn't really recommend it unless you have a small family. More than two car-seats aren't going to work in this.
