Overview

The Hyundai Tucson received an edgy redesign just last year and stands out among the compact SUVs. The 2023 Hyundai Tucson carries forward without any major or considerable changes. However, Hyundai has been kind enough to offer enhanced safety and some optional features as standard. The Hyundai Tucson model also gets a Serenity White Pearl exterior color as a replacement for Quartz White.

The Hyundai Tuscon 2023 price starts at $26,900, making it one of the cheapest and best Hyundai cars to buy in 2023. The 2023 Hyundai Tucson specs make it one of the fastest Hyundai cars out there on the market. For efficiency-conscious buyers, the 2023 Hyundai Tuscon Hybrid and 2023 Hyundai Plug-in Hybrid trims are two of the most fuel-efficient compact SUVs on the market. Check out the video by Car Junkies to learn about 10 crucial things before buying the 2023 Tucson.

Key observations in the video:

  • Parametric Dynamics design language
  • Palisade-inspired interior theme
  • Maximum towing capacity of 2,000 pounds
  • Confidence-inspiring handling
  • Decent headroom and legroom for passengers

Buying Advice

We would recommend the 2023 Hyundai Tucson SEL model for the sake of its price and features on offer. It costs $1600 more than the base SE trim but offers hands-free liftgate, wireless device charging, Hyundai Digital Key, and a Bluelink connected car system as standard. With the addition of the Convenience Package for $2,250, features like H-Tex trimmed seats, 19-inch alloy wheels, power sunroof, ambient lighting, dual-zone climate control, and a few more are added.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

The 2023 Hyundai Tucson reviews have been very good, and why won't they be? Hyundai has something exciting to offer in the compact SUV segment at an attainable price point. In the J.D. Power Consumer Rating, the Tucson 2023 model received an overall score of 79/100. For reliability and resale, it scored 80/100 and 82/100, respectively, which is very good. For driving and dealership experience, it scored 84/100 and 69/100, respectively. The NHTSA awarded a five-star safety rating to the Tucson, and it has been recalled once for a fire hazard. The IIHS awarded it the Top Safety Pick+ award for the 2022 model year.

With just about 49 complaints, a five-star safety rating, and one recall, the Tucson can be considered a good option. The 2023 Tucson SE can be financed with 0% APR for a term of 48 months and no payment for the first 90 days, as per Hyundai's latest scheme. Similarly, it can also be leased for a term of $321 per month for a term of 36 months, with $4,011 due at signing and a 10,000-mile annual mileage limit. The scheme is bound to change on a monthly basis, as is the credit score. Hyundai offers some discounts for students, first responders, and military personnel as well.

Features
8.5/10

The Hyundai Tucson will be offered in 5 trims namely the SE, the SEL, the N line, the XRT, and the Limited. The base MSRP starts at $26,900 for the base SE trim and goes up to $36,160 for the top Limited trim. All trims come equipped with the same four-cylinder engine equipped with an FWD drivetrain as standard.

The drivetrain can be upgraded to an AWD system at an additional cost of $1,500. The base trim also is well equipped with most features as standard but higher trims could be much more appealing, especially the N line and XRT which have added styling. The 2023 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid trims will be reviewed seperately.

The SE and SEL trims get 17-inch alloys as standard, whereas the rest of all the trims get 19-inch alloys as standard. Another thing to note is that only on the SEL trim do we have the option of adding packages; the rest of the trims don’t have the option of adding packages, making it one of the desirable options. The following package is exclusively available for the SEL trim:

Convenience Package $2,250

  • Power sunroof
  • H-Tex trimmed seats
  • Auto-dimming rearview mirror

Fuel Economy
8.0/10

The 2023 Hyundai Tucson mpg ratings are 25 miles per gallon in the city, 32 miles on the highway and a combined figure of 28 miles per gallon. The fuel tank capacity is 14.3 gallons which gives it a range of 358 miles in the city, 458 miles on the highway, and a combined range of 400 miles. With the optioanl AWD, the 2023 Tucson's fuel economy drops to  to 23 mpg in the city, 28 mpg on the highway, and 25 mpg in combined driving conditions. This reduces its maximum driving range to approximately 358 miles in combined driving conditions.

The 2023 Tucson is not as fuel-efficient as the competition. The Honda CRV tops the list, followed by the RAV4. Both offer the best fuel efficiency in the segment, but due to the smaller tank on the Honda CR-V, the range is almost similar to that of the Tucson. The Mazda CX 5 turned out to be less fuel-efficient alongside the Tuscon 2023, but it offers better range owing to a larger gas tank.

Interior
8.0/10

The Hyundai Tuscon 2023 interior is well-accentuated and feels premium in the higher trims. The interior theme comes in black and gray. Both use soft-touch materials on the doors and dashboard to give them a luxurious feel. The seats are offered in cloth on the base trim and leather finishes on the upper trim. The higher trim also offers ventilated and heated front seats. On the base trim, a 6-way power-adjusted driver seat is available as standard.

The steering is equipped with most of the standard steering controls. A push-button shifter and capacitive touch panel for climate controls might not please everyone. The rear-seat passengers would find themselves in a comfortable place with decent underthigh support. The 2023 Tuscon's cargo capacity of 38.7 cubic feet and 41.3 cubic feet with rear seats folded is indeed very appreciable in its segment.

The Tucson offers good interior space compared to the competition. All models in the segment get similar front row space, the Honda CRV and Tucson provide slightly better legroom across both the rows. Regarding the second row, the Tucson is spacious, followed by the Honda CRV. The CRV has the most cargo space at 39.3 cubic feet, followed by the Tucson. The RAV4 comes third, while the CX-5 offers the least cargo space.

The Tucson 2023 model gets an 8-inch touch-screen infotainment display, which offers a smooth and user-friendly experience. A larger 10.25-inch touchscreen is available on higher trims. The controls are touch-sensitive, and no physical buttons or dials are present, giving it a more modernistic approach. It also supports most of the current features, like Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The infotainment system has been a novelty tucked into the dashboard. A 4.2-inch gauge cluster is standard, while for XRT onwards, a 10.25-inch digital gauge cluster is offered.

Some of the key interior features available with the 2023 Hyundai Tucson are:

  • Bluelink Connected Car System
  • Dual-zone climate control
  • Remote keyless entry system
  • Rear A/C vents
  • 10.25-inch touchscreen with navigation
  • Heated front seats
  • Bose Premium Sound System (N Line and Limited)

Exterior
8.5/10

The 2023 Hyundai Tucson's exterior design stands out with lots of angular lines and creases over the body work. The most prominent feature is the distinct grille design and the LED headlights, which offer the Tucson a modern look in terms of design. The fang-like connected LED taillights are also eye-pleasing.

The finer attention to detail, like hiding the DRL neatly above the headlight and tucking away the rear wiper neatly behind the rear spoiler, is also a praiseworthy exterior feature. Two wheel sizes are on offer: 17-inches and 19-inches. The SE and SEL get the former ones, while the higher trims get the 19-inch wheels.

In terms of our exterior design and dimension comparison we feel the Tucson has done a great job by focusing on these minor details to enhance the overall appearance of the SUV. We feel the design on Tucson is better than other competitors as it feels more fluidic and modern compared to other models which have a boxier design.

The Tucson is also the longest, widest, and tallest in the segment. In terms of overall dimensions, the Mazda CX 5 feels more compact compared to the competition. The Honda CR-V has the shortest wheelbase making it more nimble and agile in city driving conditions.

The 2023 Hyundai Tuscon colors are:

  • Amazon Gray
  • Phantom Gray
  • Shimmering Silver
  • Portofino Gray
  • Serenity White Pearl
  • Calypso Red
  • Intense Blue

Safety
8.5/10

Talking about the safety features, the Tucson uses advanced high-strength and high-tensile steel for the exterior structure, which offers good rigidity to the overall body. The NHTSA awarded the 2023 Tuscon a five-star safety rating, and the IIHS has given it a 'Good' rating in most crashworthiness tests. Hyundai's SmartSense suite of safety features is standard across the trim lineup, whereas the higher trims get a couple of extra safety features.

Some of the standout safety features of the 2023 Hyundai Tucson include:

  • Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) with individual tire indicator
  • Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist with Pedestrian Detection (FCA-Ped)
  • Driver Attention Warning (DAW)
  • Lane Keeping Assist (LKA)
  • Blind Spot Monitor
  • Surround view Monitor
  • Rear Occupant Alert (ROA)

Competition

2023 Hyundai Tucson vs 2023 Honda CR-V

The rivalry between these two models have been going on from the day both the SUV’s were launched, both Honda CR-V and Hyundai Tucson are capable family SUVs. The former offers one of the best in class performance paired with better fuel efficiency in the segment. It also offers slightly better cargo space but lacks interior comfort and space in the front and rear rows and we feel while purchasing in this segment interior space and comfort play a vital role over performance hence our recommendation would side with the Hyundai Tucson more than the Honda CRV

2023 Hyundai Tucson vs 2023 Mazda CX 5

The Mazda CX 5 given its more compact and aerodynamic design offers better driving dynamics and is more agile in corners and tight spaces. It also is more engaging to drive than the Tucson. Tucson scores mainly on the refined and mature ride quality on offer and not to mention the best-in-class interior space and the warranty provided by the company. The Tucson also returns slightly better MPG figures compared to the Mazda CX 5. In terms of pricing, both models are identically priced. In our opinion, the Tucson qualifies as the better family SUV.

2023 Hyundai Tucson vs 2023 Toyota RAV4

Hyundai and Toyota have been producing the best reliable vehicles for many years now and this has been continuing ever since. The RAV4 has a slightly better performance and also returns better MPG figures. The safety ratings on the RAV4 are also better compared to the Tucson. The Tucson scores in terms of the interior features and space which we feel is a bit more modern and intuitive. The Hyundai’s long warranty and after-sales support are also point worth noting when considering buying the Tucson. Overall both cars are on our recommendation list but for a family SUV, we feel the Tucson qualifies better.

Final Verdict
8.0/10

The Hyundai Tucson is an ideal and well-suited compact SUV for families. It offers the best-in-class interior space and decent mileage, which makes it a considerably better option in the long term. The Hyundai also offers one of the best after-sales and warranty options, with factory service and maintenance for 3 years or 36,000 miles, whichever is earlier, as complementary to new car owners. It also gives an additional limited warranty of 10 years or 100,000 miles on the powertrain, which is comparatively more than its competitors. Taking into consideration all the above facts, the Hyundai Tucson emerges as a recommended option from our end.

Great SUV for an affordable price

Pros - ["Smooth ride", "Great warranty"]

Cons - ["Fuel economy", "Sluggish acceleration"]

The Hyundai Tucson delivers a lot of value for the money, providing a comfortable ride and helpful technology features. I also like its upscale-feeling cabin and roomy cargo space. Unfortunately it's dogged by a sluggish engine that has trouble keeping pace when the traffic speeds up. Still, the Tucson is a thoughtful small SUV.
