Overview

Posing with a premium look at an affordable price, the all-new Hyundai Accent is one of the most favourite compact sedans, that brings along a long warranty coverage. All models carry the only available 1.6L I4 engine — what else someone would expect apart from its distinguished look? Even with this small motivation, this beauty is pretty fast. The CVT is not that appraising but gets the task done with ease. Ahead of its curvy and sleek exterior, the interior is functional and way more comfortable than many of the cars of its segment. Power windows and a 6-way adjustable driver seat make it an approachable option. More expensive trims are furnished with heated seats, a push-button start, and a 7-inch infotainment touchscreen.

With this new generation of Accent, the first two trims are getting an anti-theft immobilizer as standard. The Hyundai has dropped its 6-speed manual transmission for the Accents lineup. The manufacturer has stated ending the production of this model with this generation of Accent. With the same engine, it manages best in segment mileage figures. The sedan got its full refreshed look back with the 2018 generation. It has been delivering a good amount of value with its offering of features and a price that is suitable for all. In the segment, it competes against the Kia Rio, the Nissan Versa, and the Mitsubishi Mirage G4.

Buying Advice

If you are not a huge fan of big tires, then CARHP recommends shopping for the SEL variant. It gets an updated 7-inch infotainment touchscreen that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It is readied with the tilt and telescopic steering column to help drive the car in a good position. With automatic headlights, heated outside mirrors, and fog lamps, the SEL hosts several convenient features to stand apart from the base. It is an overall good value for your money.

Engine and Performance
7.0/10

The regular unleaded 1.6L I4 engine makes 120 hp and 113 lb-ft of torque for all the models available. The car offers only a front-wheel-drive (FWD) system and it pairs with only available Continous variable transmission (CVT). The engine feels unrefined and weak at high rpm. The Accent is not designed for performance and that's why it completes 0-60 mph in 8.5 seconds which is – an average timing for a compact sedan. The fuel economy is better than many of the key competitors – 33 mpg in the city, 41 mpg on the highways, and 36 mpg combined.

The newest Kia Rio is the most affordable vehicle in the segment. With a mere price hike, the 2022 Hyundai Accent is the car that offers the best performance figures. The 2023 Mitsubishi Mirage G4 carries the tag of the most expensive car but offers the most underrated engine and power figures on the table. The Nissan Versa offers the highest power and amount of torque at least rpm. All the cars are only front-wheel-driven. The 2023 Mirage G4 has the lowest top speed.

2023 Hyundai Accent Ride and Handling

The ride quality of the new 2023 Accent is decent and comfortable looking to its price. The steering column is firm to use but sometimes gets too heavy – responsiveness is nice. The Limited trim gets it with leather wrapping. The driving experience is normal like any other car in the price range. Handling is satisfactory as it remains calm and composed on turns. Except for the normal, there is only a sports mode that motivates the car to steer reasonably quickly. Equipped with strut suspension for the front that – enhances vehicle control when you turn, brake, accelerate, or encounter uneven road surfaces. The Torsion-Beam suspensions in the rear. It has a turning diameter of 33.5 ft. SE and the SEL trims get

P185/65HR15 tire sizes– the limited model is equipped with P205/45HR17.

2023 Hyundai Accent Braking Performance

Carrying with the anti-lock braking system (ABS) for all four tires, the wheels get protection from locking up during an emergency stop. The ABS enables the driver to retain steering control and maintain directional stability by automatically pumping the brakes–when a sudden brake is detected. The Hyundai offers a Hill-start Assist Control (HAC) to prevent the car from accidentally rolling backward on very steep roads – whenever a brake padel is released. The Electronic Stability Control (ESC) applies braking power automatically to individual wheels to counter oversteer or understeer. The brake pedal is nice and solid.

The 2023 Mitsubishi Mirage G4 is the lightest car of all. It acquires the shortest brake calipers but stops the fastest. The new Kia Rio has the highest curb weight and the highest braking distance. Based on the new Accent's braking distance, an educated guess suggests its rear caliper will be the same size as the Rio's.

Fuel Economy
8.0/10

This compact sedan is not designed for performance, it is there to avail the maximum fuel economy with its four-cylinder engine. It manages a mileage of – 33 mpg in the city, 41 mpg on the high, and 36 mpg combined which is a competitive figure. With a standard fuel capacity of 11.9 gallons, the car ensures a range of – 392.7 miles when roaming around the city, 487.9 miles while running on the highways, and 428.4 miles combined.

Except for the new Versa, all other vehicles deliver the same mileage figures on the highway. The 2023 Mitsubishi Mirage G4 has the lowest fuel capacity, but it delivers the best-in-class fuel economy. The Rio and the Accent have the same range figures on the highway and combined basis – both carry equal cargo capacity. The 2023 Versa has more range figures and has a bigger fuel tank than the Mirage G4.

Interior
6.0/10

The interior of the new Accents is well-designed and has good practicality. For an average size adult, the front and rear doors are large enough to get easily in and out of the car. Door panels are mostly finished in plastic material– the quality of the material is a bit underrated. The door handles are finished in matt finish and feel solid. Window switches are OK. They get a good storage space. The cloth seats look well-designed and offer an average amount of comfort – a bit lacking support. The dashboard looks dated and the material quality on it feels good as far as the price tag it carries. The steering fetches various controls with it– a leather-wrapped steering column on the Limited version. The passengers in the rear seats demand more legroom than the front.

The instrument panel looks clear and the fonts and colors used in it are eye-catchy. The infotainment screen is integrated into the dash and is surrounded by AC vents on either side. Underneath, the media controls are mounted over there. The center console has decent storage space underneath the armrest– a rear center armrest is an option. The ports and buttons are within reach and offer an easy-to-use motion. The rearview mirror is actually of good size and composes thin bezels. The interior lets in engine noise, but the road noise is decent in the segment. The car is furnished with a total passenger volume of 90.2 cu.-ft.

How Intuitive is the new 2023 Hyundai Accent Infotainment system?

We can’t expect better infotainment and tech features under a limited price. The SE gets a 5-inch display for multimedia consumption. With a USB and auxiliary ports. Things get better with SEL as it furnishes 7-inch touchscreen infotainment, that– supports both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The screen holds a good response and has easy-to-operate menus. It gets an extra USB port mounted over the back of the center console, but it does not offer enough charge to your phone. The audio from the four stock speakers is unimpressive. With SEL and Limited trim options, the car offers a 6-speaker audio system. The quality of the rearview camera is decent.

Highlights of the infotainment system include—

  • 4 speakers on the base trim
  • 6-speaker on the upper trims

Exterior
6.0/10

The exterior of the new Hyundai Accent does not justify the price tag it carries – it looks more premium. A curvy design approach delivers a sense of a luxury vehicle. The sloping roofline goes back to the rear. The front and side profile looks similar to that of the Elantra, with a bit shorter length. The front fascia includes a big grille, wholly finished in vertically placed chrome strips with the Hyundai Logo. On the first two models, it gets 15-inch wheels finished with P185/65HR15 tire sizes. The Limited gets 17-inch alloy wheels that boast P205/45HR17 tires with cover as standard on all. On the front and rear, the Accent fetches halogen lamps– LED brake lights on the Limited. The single exhaust pipe is in stainless steel. The front and rear bumpers match the body color of the Accent.

Competition

2023 Hyundai Accent vs. 2023 Kia Rio

Both cars lie on the same price line. Hyundai Accent and the Kia Niro have exact – horsepower, amount of torque, quarter-mile distance, and top speeds. The Kia Rio is a bit on the heavier side, while the Accent has a wider body line. Both are based on the same wheelbase and have equivalent ground clearance. The Accent has offered an extra mpg when roaming around the city. The front fascia of the Rio is nicer looking.

2023 Hyundai Accent vs. 2023 Nissan Versa

The 2022 Nissan Versa costs an extra hundred $ but delivers a bit more horsepower and torque. The Hyundai Accent is a bit faster. The 2022 Nissan Versa is longer and has a greater wheelbase than the Accent. It also furnishes the best in segment ground clearance. The Accent has more curb weight. 2022 Versa acquires more cargo carrying capacity. Both are worthy competitors of each other.

2023 Hyundai Accent vs. 2023 Mitsubishi Mirage G4

Mitsubishi Mirage G4 costs more but delivers an underrated engine that produces poorer horsepower and torque figures. The exterior appeal of the new Accent is more premium, while Mirage has a pretty old-school look. The infotainment touchscreen on the Accent is a bit dated. The Mitsubishi is lighter and delivers more mileage figures. The Accent is having a higher cargo space. Mirage has more ground clearance while the Accent has a longer wheelbase.

Final Verdict

The Hyundai Accent is a great option. With a modern-looking exterior appearance, the interior is also good at delivering a reasonable amount of comfort. Tough the dash looks a little dated with air vents on either side of the display, the touchscreen has good responsiveness. The car appears with some safety features as an option, but you won't expect much from this price tag. The engine is for gaining good fuel economy, not for performance. Cargo space is also pretty decent.
