Overview

Hyundai Accent, a compact sedan for budget buyers, is a good option for those who are looking for a small car. Hyundai Accent seems to be one of the cars that provide a balanced combination of performance, fuel efficiency, and the overall latest tech while still running under a cost of $20,000. The Hyundai Accent still has to get a refresh over its old looks and design, and Hyundai hasn’t also confirmed any information regarding the 2022 model.

Buying Advice

Generally, the middle trim covers all the necessary features that are required in a daily driver. The SEL trim has all the convenience tech such as heated ORVMs, automatic headlights, foglights, Apple CarPlay & Android Auto integration, IVT gearbox, Tilt & telescopic steering wheel, and that is all a person uses on a daily basis. Other than the basic features, the SEL trim gets a 6-speaker audio system with a 7-inch touchscreen display.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

The four-door compact sedan holds the space for 4 occupants, and with the average exterior design, it looks like a daily rider that is meant to have enough power for highway trips. The interior gets mild comfy seats, and fabric upholstery can be seen on the base trim. The Accent receives a 120 hp Inline-4 gas engine from Hyundai with a smooth IVT gearbox, and the car directly competes with the Mitsubishi Mirage G4 and Nissan Versa.

Features
5.0/10

Just like this year, the 2022 model will be offered in three different trim levels, namely SE, SEL, and the Limited. The base trim SE would cost around $15,800 and go up to $20,000 for the topmost trim Limited. The same 1.6-L naturally aspirated engine will be integrated into the Accent for all three trims along with the IVT powering the front two wheels. The base trim will get all the good to go features like fabric upholstery, chrome front grille, 6-way manual-adjustable driver seat, keyless entry, body-colored and Power-adjustable ORVMs.

Release Date

There hasn’t been any news about the 2022 model of Accent by the Hyundai yet. According to the past few years, Hyundai has been observed to launch its products between mid to end of the summer, and one can expect the launch date of Accent to be in the late summer of 2022.

Fuel Economy
7.0/10

One of the best selling points of Hyundai Accent is its fuel economy, and the 2022 model will be as fuel-efficient as the current model, as there won’t be any changes regarding the powertrain. The 2022 Hyundai should be claiming the usual 33 mpg in the city, 41 on the straight highways, and 36 mpg under the combined conditions. For a daily driving vehicle, the performance it gets is more than enough, and the fuel figures further complement the vehicle.

With decent performance figures, both Hyundai and Kia stand tall in the fuel economy department as well. The strong 36 mpg in a combined condition states how much fuel efficient their engines are, whereas Nissan Versa is not much behind these two, it just claims one mpg less than the Accent. Mitsubishi, on the other hand, fails to claim good economy numbers even with the lowest power and performance figures, and that actually doesn’t make any sense.

Interior
5.0/10

The interior of the 2021 model is covered in hard plastic, the dashboard feels roomy, and the front seats offer great head and shoulder space but the taller driver would feel the requirement of the telescopic steering wheel. Hyundai has loaded the base trim of the vehicle with some basic features like cruise control, a 5-inch touchscreen display, power windows, power door locks, and keyless entry. We expect a similar experience from the 2022 model.

The 2022 version is, however, expected to have some additional features like remote keyless entry, color touchscreen, and Bluetooth which would definitely enhance the convenience for the customers. Other than that, the interior will remain unchanged. The base trim would still get fabric upholstery with 60/40 split rear row seats, but the upper trim might get the smart trunk, proximity key, and Blue Link connectivity.

All four vehicles get a seating capacity for four occupants. Kia and Hyundai take the lead in shoulder room at the front, but Nissan offers better head and legroom, and the same can be said for the rear row seats. The Mitsubishi Mirage G4 lacks space in both front and rear seats. Nissan might attract those who want the biggest boot space as it offers the best in class storage behind the second row of 14.7 cubic feet. Some salient interior features of the 2022 Hyundai Accent:

  • Cruise Control
  • Fabric upholstery
  • Power door locks with keyless entry
  • Two USB ports (on upper trim level)
  • Tilt steering wheel
  • Additional telescopic feature on upper trim levels
  • Push start button (on upper trim)
  • Automatic climate control (on upper trim)

How intuitive is the 2022 Hyundai Accent infotainment unit?

The Hyundai Accent is a basic vehicle, and it doesn’t matter which year’s model we are talking about. It does the work by transporting its occupants from one place to another, and for that, no high-tech entertainment system is required. To maintain the low pricing of the vehicle, Hyundai provides just the basic 5-inch colored touchscreen display, a 4-speaker audio system on the base trim, and a 7-inch display with the 6-speaker sound system on the top trim of the current year’s model.

The 2022 Hyundai Accent model doesn’t seem to have any upgrades regarding this department. All the infotainment features of the Hyundai Accent are mentioned below:

  • 5” color touchscreen display
  • 4-Speaker sound system
  • 7” touchscreen display (on top trim)
  • 6-Speaker sound system (on top trim)
  • AppleCarplay & Android Auto integration (on top trim)
  • Bluetooth with Voice recognition (on top trim)
  • Steering wheel mounted audio controls (on top trim)

Exterior
5.0/10

The 2022 model of Hyundai Accent will look almost exactly the same as the current model year, and thankfully, the 2021 model looks much more interesting from the exterior when compared to its bland-looking rivals. On the Limited trim, the LED setup of headlights, foglights, and the DRLs integrated into the massive front chrome grille complements the front end of the vehicle. On the side profile, the base trim packs 15-inch steel wheels, while the Limited trim gets 17-inch alloy wheels.

The upcoming model might get the LED head and taillights with LED DRLs and Power-adjustable ORVMs as standard on the base trim, while the mid-level trim SEL might come with a powered tailgate. Besides all these upgrades, every bit of the car will be the same, like width, length, ground clearance, and wheelbase will see no change and Accent will continue its legacy as an affordable car.

Hyundai Accent has a promising weight of 2,501 pounds, which is somewhat lower than some of its competitors. The Nissan Versa is quite easy to maneuver in tight traffic conditions due to its small wheelbase and length, whereas the Hyundai & Kia are just a couple of inches longer than the Versa which doesn’t create much of a difference. The Nissan Versa might also do good while going through some bad patches with its highest in the segment 6.8 inches of ground clearance. Major exterior highlights of the sedan are:

  • LED Headlights
  • Power-adjustable ORVMs
  • 15-inch alloy wheels
  • 17-inch alloy wheels (Limited trim)
  • Wheel-locks (Optional)

Safety
8.7/10

NHTSA has granted the 2021 Hyundai Accent with an excellent four-star rating in overall crash test rating, whereas the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety has also rated the car with an overall score of “Good.” These ratings tell us quite a lot about the safety of the occupants in the upcoming Hyundai Accent since Hyundai might not make any changes to the safety features for this year. The 2021 model comes with the Forward Collision Warning System that alerts the driver if someone is about to crash with the vehicle. Some amazing safety tech in Hyundai Accent are:

  • Electronic Stability Control (ESC)
  • Traction Control System (TCS)
  • Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)
  • Front and Rear crumple zone
  • Front collision mitigation
  • Front disc brakes with ABS on the base trim
  • All four disc brakes on upper trim

Competition

2022 Hyundai Accent Vs 2022 Nissan Versa

The Nissan Versa is a strong product by the Japanese automaker Nissan, and it comes with the best in class Nissan service and reliability. The sedan has a little more powerful engine, but it still won’t win you the race. The overall length and wheelbase of the Versa are smaller by some inches than the Hyundai, which would definitely grant it the ability to easily cut through the traffic. Otherwise, if someone is after looks, then Hyundai is the better option between the two.

2022 Hyundai Accent Vs 2022 Mitsubishi Mirage G4

Mitsubishi is still competing in the compact sedan segment with its out-of-the-time Mirage G4. The car surely feels out of its place and outdated as its engine does not even produce 80 hp, and the car drags itself with the occupants to achieve 60 mph from a standstill position. It has a boring design language, and the exterior styling looks nowhere near the other competitors in the market. On the other hand, Hyundai packs a lot more things for you under the same price bracket.

2022 Hyundai Accent Vs Kia Rio

The sharp headlights and the Kia badge on the top make the Rio a handsome car, especially in the blue color, and the top trim of the Rio gets much cooler alloy wheels. As compared to Kia Rio, the Hyundai Accent has a subtle design language, which might be the best for office professional purposes. Both vehicles produce even performance figures and have enough power to move you around the cities without any hassle. All in all, both have the same features and tech inside due to them being siblings, so it all comes down to what you want with your compact sedan.

Final Verdict

The current 2021 Hyundai Accent will not undergo huge changes for the upcoming 2022 model. The exterior design language will be the same, but the base trim might see the LED head and taillights, which would definitely make it aesthetically more beautiful. The powertrain and the gearbox will still continue to power the front wheels of the car, and Hyundai won’t fluctuate the price much as it will ruin the affordability of the Accent. In the end, the 2022 Hyundai Accent makes for a good choice in the segment.
