The Accent is a subcompact sedan offered by the South Korean automaker Hyundai. It comes with ample driver assistance and tech features at an affordable price. But while you consider the Accent, one should keep in mind that it's not exactly a driver's car as the performance offered is average at best. The cargo room offered is also pretty poor for its segment.

But what are the problems with the Accent? To answer that, here we take a detailed look at some of the user complaints and recalls of the 2022 Hyundai Accent.

2022 Hyundai Accent User Complaints and Problems

Engine and Mechanical Problems

  • Suspension - An owner complained that the vehicle keeps jerking while driving and can't move. The car was towed to a dealership and they said the cylinders and power plugs were misplaced.

Interiors Problems

  • Seatbelts - A 2022 Accent owner complained that they received notification from NHTSA however the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was not contacted. The owner stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair.

An exploding seat belt pretensioner can project metal fragments into the vehicle, striking vehicle occupants, and resulting in injury.

Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) recalls certain 2020-2022 Accent vehicles. In the event of a crash, the front driver-side and/or passenger-side seat belt pretensioners may explode upon deployment.

Dealers will secure the seat belt pretensioner with a cap, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on August 28, 2022. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 229. This recall expands and replaces NHTSA recall numbers 21V-796, 22V-069, 22V-218, and 22V-123 for Accent, Elantra, and Elantra HEV vehicles. All Accent, Elantra, and Elantra HEV vehicles already repaired under the previous recalls will need to have the new remedy completed.

Should you buy the 2022 Hyundai Accent?

The Hyundai Accent is a fine option if you're looking for an entry-level subcompact sedan as it delivers decent features at its price point. It's really comfortable and offers great interior space. The fuel efficiency offered is also great for its segment. But its dull engine doesn't deliver the performance one would expect. Unsupportive seats and an undersized trunk don't help its case either. Rivals like the 2022 Kia Rio deliver better in all fields. However, in terms of reliability, the 2022 Hyundai Accent delivers in spades. With only 2 recalls and all the reported complaints being isolated incidents, it is a decent option if you are looking for an affordable daily commuter.
