Overview

The Hyundai Accent is not only a handsome-looking car but is offered as a practical, comfortable, and feature-rich vehicle. The car boasts a decent powertrain, a premium cabin, and the after-sales support is great too. The 2021 Hyundai Accent gives strong competition to the rivals when it comes to long-term reliability, road presence, and in-cabin experience. The warranty coverage offered by Hyundai is also class-leading.

Buying Advice

The top of the line Limited variant is one of the best variants to buy, all thanks to the long features list and a premium cabin. Having said this, it also gets all the exterior niceties and attractive 17-inch alloy wheels. Additionally, this trim also comes with other feel-good features like LED headlights and a sunroof. The base SE trim, however, will be a better choice for those looking for a more affordable car and are ready to skip on some of the creature comforts.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

While no major changes have been made to the 2021 iteration of the car, the brand has revised a few features to make it a better offering. While the market is now slowly shifting towards SUVs and crossovers, cars like the Accent still make sense. The 2021 Accent rivals capable cars like Toyota Corolla,Nissan Versa, and Kia Rio Sedan. Having said this, how good is the 2021 Hyundai Accent? Let's find out.

Features

The 2021 Hyundai Accent offers decent fuel economy figures that are at par with the segment standards. The car also offers a decent-sized fuel tank, hence helping it boast a notable range on a single fuel tank. Kia Rio is a sister vehicle that offers a similar fuel economy. However, the Corolla beats all in the range battle with its larger fuel tank, despite being less fuel-efficient than all.

Interior
5.0/10

The cabin of Hyundai cars are usually very good and boast incredible fit and finish levels. The 2021 Hyundai Accent too offers a similar cabin and gets extremely high-quality plastics and components. The seats at the front are very comfortable and offer decent under-thigh and lumbar support. The driver’s seat can be adjusted in multiple ways. The front seats in addition to this also come with a heating function in the Limited trim. The visibility from the driver’s seat is great. The rear seat space, however, is restricted and could have been better.

On the features front, the 2021 Accent gets tilt and telescopic steering wheel, sunroof, and auto climate control. The rear seats get a 60/40 split seat folding option that makes it extremely practical for everyday usage. There are abundant storage spaces available inside the cabin, and all the four-door trims get big bottle holders while the glovebox is big and usable. The center armrest also has a deep storage bin, while the center console gets a couple of cup holders at the front.

The space available inside the cabin of the 2021 Accent is at par with the segment rivals, thus making it very tough to decide a clear winner here. The car however boasts supreme fit and finish levels. Nissan Versa offers the most spacious front row, but the rear row feels a bit cramped. It also offers the highest cargo capacity at 14.7 cu-ft. The cargo capacities of Accent, Corolla, and Rio are very closely matched. Some of the standout interior features of the Accent are:

  • 6-way adjustable driver seat
  • Rear window defroster with timer
  • Cloth upholstery
  • Automatic climate control
  • Tilt and telescopic steering wheel
  • 60/40 split-folding rear seats
  • Heated Front Seats

What’s there to keep you entertained in the 2021 Hyundai Accent?

The music output from the six-speaker audio system that comes as standard is decent. Additionally, on-demand diagnostics can also be accessed via this touchscreen infotainment system. The user interface is easy to understand, but the touch response could have been better. The system also gets laggy at times and is not very fluid with its response. • A 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system
  • Android Auto and Apple CarPlay
  • Blue Link Remote Access
  • Amazon Echo and Google Home Integration
  • 6-speaker audio setup

Exterior
5.0/10

The 2021 Hyundai Accent scores strong points when it comes to exterior design and looks. The car gets an elegant and attractive exterior styling which helps it boast a strong road presence. It gets a large chrome grille at the front which dominates the front fascia. The sleek LED headlights and round fog lamps further complement the overall look. The side profile too is extremely attractive, and the 17-inch machine-finished alloy wheels attract a lot of eyeballs.

The rear fascia looks amazing and better than most of the rivals. The fit and finish of the panels are great. On the features front, the car gets heated ORVMs, smart trunk opening, and LED headlights and taillights. The car also gets chrome door handles and window moldings for a more premium look. The sedan weighs 2,679 lbs and stands 5.5 inches above the ground.

The 2021 Hyundai Accent may not be one of the biggest cars in the segment, but it does boast a strong road presence. It is one of the best-looking sedans on the market. The Toyota Corolla is a lot bigger than the other three but offers only 5.1-inches of ground clearance, which is the lowest of the lot. Some of the standout exterior features of the Accent are:

  • Hands-free smart trunk
  • Auto headlights
  • LED Headlights
  • Chrome grille
  • Heated side mirrors
  • 17-inch dual-tone alloy wheels
  • Chrome accents

Safety
4.0/10

The 2021 Hyundai Accent scored four out of five stars in the NHTSA crash tests, while the car scored “Good” ratings in almost all the parameters in IIHS crash tests. However, the rear passengers are prone to suffer thoracic injuries during a side crash. On the safety front, it gets a long list of safety features and equipment that make it significantly more loaded than most of the rivals. It also gets many airbags inside the cabin. The body shell gets heavy reinforcements that prevent the cabin from collapsing in case of a heavy crash, hence preventing serious injuries to the occupants. Some of the standout safety features of the Accent are:

  • Vehicle Stability Management (VSM) system
  • Electronic Stability Control (ESC)
  • Traction Control System (TCS)
  • Brake Assist (BA)
  • Hill Start Assist Control (HAC)
  • Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)
  • Remote keyless entry system with alarm

Competition
7.0/10

2021 Hyundai Accent vs 2021 Toyota Corolla

The 2021 Toyota Corolla gets an attractive design, while the build quality is decent too. The Corolla might outshine most of its rivals when it comes to long-term reliability. The cabin too is spacious, and the seats are extremely comfortable. The rear legroom is also better than the Accent. The 2021 Hyundai Accent, on the other hand, does offer a more extensive features list and a much better exterior design. It is also more fuel-efficient as well, and its sale starts at a lower price than the Corolla.

2021 Hyundai Accent vs 2021 Nissan Versa

The new Nissan Versa gets a lot of updates that make it a strong competitor in the segment. The car now not only gets an aggressive design but also gets a modern interior that comes loaded with features. The fit and finish levels are decent, while the performance is sorted as well. The Nissan Versa comes with better ground clearance to deal better with road undulations.

2021 Hyundai Accent vs 2021 Kia Rio

The Kia Rio and the Hyundai Accent are largely based on the same platform, being close cousins, hence sharing many parts and components. Both these vehicles however have to offer different exterior design languages and different interiors. There is no significant difference when it comes to performance and driving dynamics. It all pours down to the choice of the prospective buyers to select one between both of them.

Final Verdict

The new Hyundai Accent is a good-looking and reliable sedan that makes it a great choice for anyone who is looking to buy a feature-rich car. The exterior design is attractive, thus the car offers a strong road presence. There is no dearth of features, and the in-cabin experience is great. However, the car may not be a great choice for hardcore driving enthusiasts, and rivals do offer a better driving experience. Having said that, the 2021 Hyundai Accent is backed by dependable after-sales support, and the long-term reliability of the car is also sorted. Hyundai also offers class-leading warranty coverage to ensure your peace of mind.
