Overview

The 2021 Honda Civic sedan is into its last model year for the current generation as the 2022 Civic will mark the start of the 11th generation. With no major changes this year, the 2021 Civic sedan and hatchback will be on sale with two different engines: a base 158-hp 2.0-liter I-4 engine on the LX, and Sport trims while the powerful and efficient 174 hp 1.5 L turbo on the EX and above models with a standard CVT. Returning up to 42 MPG of fuel economy, all Civic 2021 sedan trim levels have got that excellent Honda Sensing suite of safety features as well.

2021 Honda Civic Buying Advice

The 2021 Civic remains the same as that of the 2019 MY in both performance dynamics and safety gears. The seating comfort and reliability retain to be as it is too. Hence, one should prefer the 2019 Civic which is $750 less expensive. Buying a used Honda Civic also saves you the depreciation money and offers great value to budget car buyers.

Having rivals such as the Toyota Corolla, Hyundai Elantra, and Mazda 3 pushes the Honda Civic 2021 to keep up itself as one of the highest resale value sedans in the space. While the Mazda offers quick-fire performance, the Elantra offers plenty of features right from the base trim, while the Toyota is unbeaten on the reliability front. Though its siblings including the coupe model and sporty Civic Si have been called off this year and it will continue to retain its 5-seater exhilarating bash without any drop.

2021 Honda Civic for sale

The Honda Civic 2021 sedan can be availed of with a lease deal starting at $175/month for 36 months with a down payment of $2,000 for an annual mileage limit of 7,500 miles/year. Finance offers start at a monthly payment of $311 for 60-month tenure at 3.49% APR and a $2,125 down payment.

Buying Advice

Our recommendation is the 2021 Civic EX trim priced at $24,400. It has the more powerful 1.5L Turbocharged Inline-4 engine. In addition to the base trim, the EX offers baggage of heated seats, a power Moonroof, Honda LaneWatch, and many more over the lower trims. Even the infotainment system experiences an upgrade along with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. Instead of the 16-inch wheels, the Civic EX trim offers 18-inch alloy wheels as well.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

The 2021 Honda Civic sedan continues to be a practical sedan with decent driving dynamics and an impressive J.D power rating of 84, all of which radiate it as an enticing option. Moreover, its MPG range from 32 MPG-42 MPG for its power curve varying from 158 hp-174 hp simply justifies the myriad of driving phenomena available at its ends through the lineup. As far as financing and spending are concerned, the Civic LX price goes to $3,116 for maintenance and $601 for repair.

While the 2021 Civic EX-L cost can be within the same ballparks of $3,210 and $712 respectively after revving it for 5 years. Also, depreciation of $5,669-$8,741 in the resale value is going to be there from LX-Touring simultaneously. The Honda Civic 5-year cost of ownership is expected to be around $35,825 which is slightly on the higher side when compared to its rivals like the Toyota Corolla. Hyundai also offers a long 10-year warranty which is limited to just 3-years in case of the Honda

Buying Advice

Our recommendation is the 2021 Civic EX model priced at $25,415 as it is powered by the more powerful 1.5L turbocharged four-cylinder engine. All these at an additional investment of roughly $3,200.

Features
7.0/10

""While the Civic may cost slightly more initially, it has a reputation for holding its value very well over the years, making it a smart choice for savvy buyers." - Kelley Blue Book

The 2021 Honda Civic is available in 5 trims configurations; LX, Sport, EX, EX-L, and Touring. The LX is the base trim that offers you a 5-inch infotainment screen & a 4-speaker audio system. While the Civic Sport Sedan price that is an extra $1,800 investment over the LX gets a 7-inch infotainment screen with smartphone integration and 18-inch unique alloy wheels.

Then cometh the Honda Civic EX that beholds additional assets like the Honda LaneWatch and Dual-zone automatic climate control over the lower trims. And the EX-L packs in the leather interior upholstery and HondaLink integration for a price tag that is $1,200 more expensive than the EX trim. The last one is the Touring configuration with 10-speaker premium audio, heated rear seat, and integrated navigation system as standard virtues.

Honda does not believe in options packages and bakes all its features right into the trim lineup. Therefore, apart from a few accessories, the Honda Civic do not get any add-on features option as well. All the 2021 Civic prices exclude the $1,015 destination fee.

Fuel Economy
6.0/10

The 2021 Honda Civic MPG is an economy of 30/37/32 MPG in the city/highway/combined conditions with its 158 hp 2.0L I-4 engine. And, its 12.4-gallon fuel tank pushes it to go as far as 459 miles. While the Civic 174 hp 1.5 Turbo I-4 engine hits the mileage of  32/36/42 MPG in respective circumstances, resulting in a maximum range of 521 miles.

As per data, the 2021 Civic MPG is better than the Mazda 3 by 3 MPG in the city which allows it to have 29 miles extra. But it feels a little higher on the fuel cost when compared to the Toyota Corolla as its mileage is 6 MPG lower than the latter on the highway, thereby, causing a peak range deficit of 143 miles.

Interior
6.0/10

"Practical and modern in appearance, the Civic's interior is roomy and offers sufficient storage space." - Car and Driver

The 2021 Honda Civic interior is simply spacious, practical, modern, and adequate with a decent fitted center console and dashboard design on the front. The buttons and knobs have been labeled well and are of good quality hard plastic. The base trim LX misses out on most of the convenience features and adorns with cloth upholstered seats only having 6-way and 4-way manual adjustability for the driver and passenger respectively just like Civic Sport Sedan. Features like heated and 8-way power-adjustable driver seat, leather upholstery, and dual-zone climate control can only be found from the 2021 Civic EX onwards.

The narration goes unchanged as the Dual-zone automatic climate control has been integrated into the EX, EX L, and Touring while the LX and Sport trim cool down with the automatic climate control. However, the cargo capacity of 15.1 cu-ft is standard for all. Apart from that, we have got a standard 5-inch infotainment unit for the LX that upgrades for the 7-inch touchscreen display for the rest. These systems are much more responsive than the earlier ones. Joining them in functionalities are the 4-speaker audio (LX) and 8-speaker audio units (Sport, EX, and EX-L) alongside the 10-speaker premium audio system for the Civic Touring 2021 interior.

Coming on the rivals, the Honda Civic interior 2021 has been arranged with a 0.9 cu-ft larger trunk than the Elantra and a 1.9 cu-ft bigger one than the Mazda 3. However, it seems to have 2 inches less legroom than the Elantra in the 2nd row but it makes up for that with 3.3 inches wider 2nd-row shoulder room than the Corolla.

Some of the highlights of the infotainment system are:

  • 7-inch touchscreen infotainment w/Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • 8-speaker audio system
  • Satellite and HD radio
  • Navigation & Voice recognition
  • Leather upholstered seats
  • Dual-zone automatic climate control
  • Heated front and rear seats

Exterior
7.0/10

"We think the Civic is sleek and daring enough to stand out, but not so much that it’s offensive." - Kelley Blue Book

This 10th generation of the Honda Civic has some bold and stylish-looking exteriors which make it look far better than just a typical sedan. Styled in more than 7 colors, it appeals to all irrespective of the fact whether the automatic projector halogen headlights guide the path or the LED ones. However, the LED headlights are specific to the Touring trim only just like its 18-inch wheels having Gloss Shark Gray inserts.

As far as sportiness touch is concerned, the rear lip spoiler attaches itself for the 2021 Civic Sport, EX, EX-L, and Touring only. Also, we have got 16-inch steel, 16-inch alloy, and 17-inch alloy wheels in the inventory too that can add that breezing appearance to the Grey Honda Civic similar to the Green Civic and Silver Civic. Apart from these, there is a sunroof on top and power heated side-view mirrors on the sides that can be availed of except for the Sport and LX.

In terms of data, the 2021 Honda Civic weight is 213 lbs lighter than the Mazda 3. While the Honda Civic length is 0.8 inches shorter than the Mazda 3 and 1.4 inches more than the Hyundai Elantra. On the other hand, the Toyota Corolla has a similar wheelbase as that of its Honda counterpart. Meanwhile, some notable exterior features have been mentioned below:

  • Projector-Beam Halogen Headlights with Auto-On/Off
  • Push-to-Release Fuel Filler Door
  • Taillights with Integrated LED Light Bars
  • One-Touch Power Moonroof with Tilt Feature
  • Fog Lights
  • Daytime Running Lights
  • Body-Colored Decklid Spoiler

Safety
8.0/10

The 2021 Honda Civic excels in terms of safety as well. A 5-star rating from the NHTSA and an overall score of “Good” from the IIHS in crash test analysis, which are the highest ratings/scores possible from the respective associations prove that the Civic is an extremely safe sedan. Honda has never skimped on the safety features and the 2021 MY is no exception. Some of them have been mentioned below:

  • Forward collision warning
  • Electronic Brake Distribution
  • Lane departure warning and lane-keep assist
  • Honda LaneWatch
  • Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) with traction control.

Competition
7.5/10

2021 Honda Civic vs 2021 Hyundai Elantra

The 2021 Hyundai Elantra has got an upper hand over the Honda Civic Sedan 2021 in terms of both performance and fuel economy. It is true when it is a matter of cabin spaciousness as well. But they are at par with each other in safety suite and interior technology. On the whole, it is Elantra that gets the preference here.

2021 Honda Civic vs 2021 Mazda 3

The 2021 Honda Civic sedan is superior to Mazda 3 in mileage return but that is a trade-off with its inherent power curve where the Mazda 3 excels. But apart from that, they are hardly distinct to one another as both have got worthy interior technology, comfort, convenience, and safety gears on offer. Therefore, both are equally desirable.

2021 Honda Civic vs 2021 Toyota Corolla

Though the 2021 Civic MPG is left behind against the Toyota Corolla but that is leveled off by the former by a superior power performance. However, they don't deviate from their dynamics when they are driven to the limits. The interior comfort index for both are parallel and so are the trim level upgrades for their price increments. Hence, one can go for either of them.

Final Verdict

The new Honda Civic is a practical buy. Its attractive price tag, excellent performance, great fuel economy, best-in-class safety, and the plethora of features and options make it a car that goes unnoticed from a buyer’s point of view. You’ll get a car that goes above and beyond the standards of the average compact Sedan. Spacious and modern interior and classy exterior look standout among its competition as well.
