Overview

The Sentra is Nissan’s one of the cheapest vehicles from the Japanese automaker. The 2024 Nissan Sentra is now in its 8th generation and marks a new model for the 2024 year. The changes include a revised exterior look, a new Xtronic CVT automatic transmission, Engine Start/Stop functionality, and a new Nissan logo for the interior. It is one of the most promising new Nissan models for the 2024 model year.

The new bold and stylish 2024 Nissan Sentra price now starts at an aggressive price of $20,630. At this price, the Sentra is definitely one of the top sedans to buy under the $30,000 budget. The update now promises a smoother ride and better fuel efficiency with the CVT. Check out the video below by "Everyday Car View" for a closer look at the facelifted Sentra and find out if it is worth the $430 price hike over the previous model year

The 2024 Sentra now looks more stylish and offers better value by lowering the running costs and improving the drivability. That said, there is still no Sentra hybrid or a Sentra AWD drivetrain on offer, which can be had with some of its rivals. However, it still tends to give a good fight to its rivals. The Sentra goes head-to-head in a very competitive compact sedan segment against the likes of the Honda Civic, the Hyundai Elantra, the Mazda 3, and the Subaru Impreza.

Buying Advice

The Nissan Sentra is available in three trims that are the S trim, SV trim, and SR trim which is a bit sports-oriented. And among these three we will recommend the 2024 Sentra SR trim that comes for $23,720. It is the highest trim available for the Sentra. The SR trim houses the same engine that comes with the other two trims.

Other than that it comes with several features that give it a sportier appeal, such as 18-inch wheels, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, heated front seats, a heated side mirror, and many more. Not only does it offer almost all the creature comforts that one would need on a regular basis, it also manages to undercut its rivals in terms of price.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

The 2024 Nissan Sentra does not showcase anything flashy, rather it highlights affordability and practicality. The Sentra may not be among the leaders of the compact car segment, but hold on! The 2024 model comes in with some heat. The improved drivability, better efficiency, and striking new design language should attract more buyers to the dealerships. The 2024 Nissan Sentra release date of late summer means that it is already available for sale.

While the new Sentra 2024 is yet to be tested, expect the 5-year cost of ownership to be the same as the previous model year at around $33,200. This is on the higher side when compared to its Asian rivals. That said, the Nissan Sentra reliability rating of 84/100 by J.D. Power is class-leading and should continue for the 2024 model year as well. For someone who needs a no-nonsense daily driver, the Sentra makes a very strong point.

Features
7.0/10

The 2024 Nissan Sentra trim lineup is pretty simple as before and gets only 3 options to choose from; S, SV, and SR. The prices start at $20,630 for the base, $21,560 for the Sentra SV, and $23,720 for the 2024 Sentra SR. The 2.0L DIG four-cylinder engine is standard across all the models and so is the new and improved Xtronic CVT automatic transmission.

There are no drivetrain or powertrain options available either. The standard list of safety features includes forward collision warning with front & rear automatic braking, lane departure warning, and blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert. This extensive list of driver safety aids adds great value as many prominent competitors offer some of these aids only on higher trims.

Release date

The 2024 Nissan Sentra was announced to go on sale by the end of summer 2023 and is now currently on display at all dealerships and on the company website. Expect deliveries to also begin shortly in the last quarter of this year.

Engine and Performance
5.0/10

The 2024 Sentra comes with an engine that is quite sluggish and does not provide enough power to the vehicle. It is powered by a 2-liter naturally aspirated DOHC inline-4 engine paired with a 1-speed Continuous Variable Transmission. It produces around 149 horsepower and 146 pound-feet of torque. It is also quite slow in terms of going from 0 to 60, in fact, it is one of the slowest cars in its segment at 9.2 seconds.

Other than that it has a top speed of 120 MPH and takes a rather sedate 17 seconds to cover the quarter mile. Also, it comes with only front-wheel-drive as there is no available all-wheel-drive. The higher trims also come with the same engine which provides the same amount of power and performance. Overall the Sentra is quite an average vehicle for its price as it is underpowered and does not provide a good performance.

The Sentra might not be fast but it comes with impressive ride and handling capabilities. This compact car comes with independent suspensions and large tires which minimizes the jerking over bumps. Also, it goes quite well around the corners with minimal body roll. And other than that as this car is quite small in size navigating it through cities or small spaces will not be an issue.

In terms of performance, there is no match to the larger engine on offer under the hood of the Mazda 3. It is also the sportiest of the lot, offering agile handling and driving dynamics. The Honda Civic offers a similar performance as that of the Sentra but is considerably pricier. The Hyundai Elantra on the other hand offers a balanced product. It is comfortable to drive, the lightweight construction makes it quick, and the prices are kept in check as well. Only Mazda offers an AWD drivetrain in the comparison while Honda and Hyundai do have a hybrid option as well.

Fuel Economy
4.0/10

The 2024 Sentra gets an updated CVT automatic this year which is said to improve fuel efficiency. Therefore the Nissan Sentra MPG ratings have improved by 1 MPG in each aspect over the previous model year. It is now rated by the EPA at 29 MPG in the city, 39 MPG on the highways, and 33 MPG combined. The smaller fuel tank capacity affects the driving range a bit. That said, the driving range of over 422 miles is pretty decent for the daily commute.

In terms of fuel economy and driving range, the Hyundai Elantra leads the pack but a huge margin. The large gas tank capacity complements its class-leading fuel efficiency and offers the longest range in the segment. The Mazda 3 lies on the opposite end of the spectrum and opting for the Mazda 3 AWD or the Turbo models sees a further drop in its EPA ratings. Civic does marginally better than Nissan in this regard.

Interior
6.0/10

The 2024 Sentra comes with almost the same looking although it got a refresh, there are some new offered features in this year’s model. The vehicle comes with cloth upholstery in the base trim, and the higher trims come with leather upholstery although the SR trim does not fully offer leather, some usage of cloth can be found here and there in the interior. Other than that the vehicle offers a good amount of head, shoulder, and leg space in the front row, however, the second row offers an average amount of space. Also, the trunk capacity that it offers can be considered average in its segment. The interior is not too quiet but is okay to not bother you. So overall the interior of the base model does not offer much to grab lots of attention but the SR or the SV model showcases some features which make those trims quite good for their price and might grab your and others' attention.

In terms of interior, the Impreza comes first that has a simple yet functional interior also it has a quite spacious interior, that is filled with several features. This compact car comes with one of the largest trunk capacity in its segment. At second position comes the Honda Civic which also comes with quite a feature-filled, handsome, and spacious interior. The vehicle offers an average trunk capacity. Now in third position comes the Nissan Sentra which comes with an okayish interior however the 204 model offers with a list of features on the inside, also the trunk capacity in this compact car is quite respectable. And now at last position comes Mazda 3 which looks bold yet simple and with it comes many features. And it has the lowest amount of trunk space offered among the four vehicles.

Standout interior features:

  • Power windows and door locks
  • 60/40 split fold-dow seats
  • 7-inch drive assist display
  • Heated front seats
  • Dual-zone automatic climate control
  • 6-way power adjustable driver’s seat

2024 Nissan Sentra Infotainment

The Sentra comes with more or less the same infotainment as last year, unlike its Chinese counterpart that is the Nissan Sylphy which comes with a larger infotainment system. However, the Sentra keeps the driver and the passengers connected and engaged with its 7-inch infotainment display, Integrated Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Google Assistant, a 4-speaker audio system, and many more. The higher trims SV and SR come with an 8-inch infotainment display, a better 6-speaker audio system, Sirius XM and etc. So overall if you take a look at the infotainment system of the base trim Sentra it might not look compelling but what the higher trims offer is much more compelling for its price. However, even the base’s trim’s infotainment does the job, and for its price, it's more or less worth it.

Standout infotainment system:

  • 7-inch infotainment display
  • 4-speaker audio system
  • Android Auto and Apple CarPlay integration
  • 4-speaker audio system
  • Google voice assistant enabled
  • Sirius XM

Exterior
6.0/10

The 2024 model got a refreshed, and it comes with an enhanced exterior design. This new design looks quite stylish along with a touch of boldness. All three trims now come with a new rear and front fascia and better-looking redesigned headlights. Now in terms of the exterior dimensions this compact car mostly remains the same, it comes with a 106.6-inch of wheelbase. Other than that the car comes with a length, width, and height of 182.7 inches, 71.5 inches, and 56.9 inches respectively.

It has a ground clearance of 4.7 inches which is quite low for a compact and because of that the Sentra showcases a touch of aggressiveness. And when it comes to features, Nissan has poured as many features as it can while keeping the price low. The base trim and the SV trim now come with 16-inch wheels and while the sports-oriented SR trim comes with 18-inch 10-spoke alloy wheels. So overall if you look at the new Sentra then you can see that it does come with some changes that make it look better than before.

In terms of exterior, the Honda Civic takes first position because of its modern exterior with a touch of boldness also it is quite big and well in terms of features it is one of the best in its segment. Now in second place comes the Mazda 3 which comes with eye-catching, aggressive, and bold looks, this compact car comes with several exterior features as well. Now in the third position comes the Nissan Sentra which after its new refresh similarly comes with a bold and aggressive exterior design and more added features and functions. And at last, position comes the Subaru Impreza which has a very unique blend of bold looks along with a mild touch of elegance, this has several features and is also filled with many features. However, the exterior looks can feel a bit outdated in comparison to the other vehicles in this comparison.

Standout Exterior Features

  • 16-inch wheels
  • Restyled LED Headlights
  • New front fascia
  • Dark chrome exterior trim
  • Mirror with turn signal indicators

Safety
6.0/10

The Sentra in terms of safety is quite a safe compact car, this year’s model is not that different from the 2023 model in terms of safety. But as it is not out yet, we cannot confirm anything as it might perform better when NHTSA and IIHS test this vehicle. The Sentra is expected to receive a 5 out of 5 from NHTSA just like its predecessor. This compact car is quite well built and comes with many safety features that will assure you and your passenger's safety, some of the features that this vehicle comes with either as standard or as optional are: Forward Collision Warning, Intelligent Driver Alertness, Intelligent Around View Mirror and many more. So overall the Sentra is quite an awesome car in terms of safety, Nissan really focused on providing as many safety features as it can that will ensure your and your passenger’s safety in case of any accidents.

Safety features include

  • Lane-keep assist
  • Automatic Front and Rear Braking with Pedestrian Detection
  • Forward Collision Warning
  • Blind-spot Monitoring
  • Lane Tracing
  • Lane Departure Warning

Competition

2024 Nissan Sentra vs. 2024 Honda Civic

Both the Nissan Sentra and the Honda Civic are two very well-built vehicles in the compact segment. The Sentra offers good performance and fuel economy, however, it gets totally dominated by the Civic in almost all possible aspects. Although Sentra is cheaper and it provides an adequate amount of features. So choosing one vehicle among these two is not that tough of a job, you should simply go for the Civic, as it firstly is the best in the segment and moreover, it will be more worth the money compact car, even though it is costlier than the Sentra.

2024 Nissan Sentra vs. 2024 Mazda 3

Both the Nissan Sentra and the Mazda 3 belong to the compact car segment that competes against each other. Both the vehicles provide quite similar performance however, the Mazda 3 is quicker than the Sentra in terms of 0-60 while the top speed does not show that big of a difference, it is also quite smaller in size than the Sentra. And in many aspects, the Mazda is quite ahead of the Sentra, this Mazda compact car delivers more power, the braking in it is also smoother and it offers much better fuel economy. Soo overall the Mazda is a much better choice in its segment as it provides many features and is also more worth the money.

2024 Nissan Sentra vs. 2024 Subaru Impreza

The Nissan Sentra and the Subaru Impreza are two quite liked and very affordable cars in the compact car segment. Both of the vehicles come with a list of features that are offered both as standard and optional. The Sentra is better than the Impreza in some aspects, while the Impreza proves to be a better car in terms of performance and some other aspects as well. So in short, choosing one car between these two is quite a tough job but if you have to go for one then the Sentra will be a better option.

Final Verdict

Whether you should buy the Sentra or not, first of all, depends upon your preferences and your budget as well. So if you’re in the market and you’re looking for a compact car that provides good performance, has good fuel economy, and has also got some looks t hen the Sentra might be a good choice for you. However, it might not feel as fast as some of the other cars in its segment. However, the vehicle provides top-notch safety, comfort, and handling. And even though it is not the best or one of the best in its segment, it shines in all aspects for its affordability. So if you want a compact car there are several other choices that are better than the Sentra in many aspects.
