Overview

The 2022 Nissan Sentra comes mechanically and overall unchanged this year. Except for the addition of one new package for the SV and SR trim each. Even though there is no significant change this time around, Sentra did get a price bump of around $500 across all three trims. Slotting in the compact sedan segment the Nissan Sentra follows heavy design cues from the pricier Altima. While with the bevy of standard features and driver aids the Sentra remains a very compelling choice here.

Although the only downside for the Sentra is a sole engine, gearbox, and drivetrain option. This fairly restricts the choice for many buyers as the standard powertrain is neither quick nor fuel-efficient. That said, Nissan does offer the SR trim on Sentra but unlike the SR trim on the Altima that gets a turbocharged engine the SR trim on Sentra is all show and no go. Still, the 2022 Sentra remains a fairly reliable and no-frills compact sedan which helps it rake good sales numbers.

Buying Advice

You can go with any of the trims as the price difference among the trims of the 2022 Nissan Sentra is kept low, considering the segment. Although to get the maximum bang for your bucks we suggest going for the SV trim along with the optional Premium package. As it gets more comfort and convenience features than the base trim along with the adaptive cruise control. While the optional package will uplift the cabin and seat quality.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

The 2022 Sentra, which sits between the smaller Versa and full-size Altima, offers valuable features that outclass its low price tag which starts just at $21,000. Thus in the compact sedan segment, the 2022 Nissan Sentra sits as an attractive yet budget-friendly commuter. The Sentra was recently refreshed in 2020, and thus the 2022 Nissan Sentra will be a carryover model. Yet it will pose tough competition to the likes of Toyota Corolla, Honda Civic, and Hyundai Elantra.

Features
7.0/10

The 2022 Nissan Sentra is available in three trim options, namely S, SV, and SR. The base S trim is expected to start from $21,000 while the SV trim with a starting MSRP of $22,000 offers alloy wheels along with better convenience features like an 8-inch touchscreen and dual-zone climate control. The top SR trim comes with a price of $23,000 and is available with all bells and whistles from the lower trim along with sporty looks inside out.

Compared to the 2021 Sentra, the 2022 Sentra has gained two more optional packages over the already available Premium package for SR and SV trim. The new packages added are the All-Weather package on the SV trim and Midnight Edition package on the SR trim. The former package adds a heated steering wheel, front seats, and side mirrors while the latter gets all the exterior bits like alloys, grille, badges, etc finished in black.

The Premium package on the SV trim adds 17-inch alloy wheels, a power-adjustable driver's seat, heated front seats, quilted leather seats, power-sliding moonroof. While the Premium package on the SR trim adds all the features of SV Premium package plus surround-view parking camera, auto-dimming inside rearview mirror, projector LED headlights with DRLs, NissanConnect with Wi-Fi hotspot, and Bose premium sound system.

Fuel Economy
6.0/10

The 2022 Nissan Sentra and its naturally aspirated motor along with the CVT should have contributed to splendid figures but its heavier curb weight won't allow that. The 2022 Sentra, with no change to the powertrain, delivers 29/39/33 MPG in the city/highway/combined. The 2022 Sentra will also fit a 12.4-gallon fuel tank, which is the smallest amongst the competition, resulting in a highway range of 484 miles.

The 2022 Nissan Sentra does deliver great efficiency and mileage, but in the segment of the compact sedans it is the least efficient, the 2022 Hyundai Elantra leads the bunch with 37 MPG combined. The Nissan Sentra also has the lowest fuel tank capacity compared to Corolla's 13.2-gallon fuel tank, and hence the total range is also reduced.

Interior
6.0/10

The 2022 Nissan Sentra will carry over the same interiors as the previous model year with no significant upgrades. The interior is minimalist, modern, and trendy to catch the eyes of a wide variety of buyers. The Zero Gravity front seats are outstanding in terms of support and comfort. The ride height is apt and can be easily adjusted. The rear seats are commendably spacious, even the tallest of passengers won’t feel cramped.

The cabin design is quite subtle and simplistic, but there is overuse of hard plastics which makes the cabin looks cheap. The upper trims though add some premium-looking upholstery. That being said, there are no additions to the interior, the 2022 Nissan Sentra remains cozy and spacious to its occupants.

Infotainment wise too, there will be no changes. The 2022 Nissan Sentra will still feature a floating hands-free 7-inch touchscreen display on the center of the dash with physical knobs and buttons to add convenience. The buyers can also upgrade to 8-inch screen infotainment. There are hard buttons for the HVAC system too, which makes them easy to operate.

There are USB-C ports, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with Bluetooth connectivity. The lower trims get a 4-speaker sound system while optional on the SR trim is an 8-speaker Bose premium sound system. As for the cargo space, the Sentra offers 14.3 cubic feet of space in its trunk which is above average in the segment.

The 2022 Hyundai Elantra will fit three passengers more comfortably in the rear seat, as compared to other rivals while in terms of cargo capacity the Civic leads, though with a small margin. While the Toyota Corolla offers the least spacious cabin among all the sedans here which is due to the fact it has the shortest wheelbase among all.

However, if you prefer going for the Sentra, it would be a wise choice to shell out some extra cash to opt for the SR trim as it offers a slightly nicer cabin and interior finish.

Interior Features:

  • Rear seat armrest with cupholders
  • Tilt and telescopic steering column
  • Power windows with driver's one-touch auto up/down
  • Power door locks with auto-locking feature
  • Remote keyless entry with push-button start
  • RearView Monitor

Exterior
6.0/10

The 2022 Nissan Sentra will carry over the recently refreshed aesthetics done in the 2020 model year. The redesign made it look more mature and sophisticated while at the same time its looks also received great laud from the consumers. The front flaunts the sporty and slightly aggressive attire with a long creased bonnet. Further adding to the aggressiveness in the wide Nissan V-motion grille.

Moving to the sides,  the stance boasts aestheticism with neat body lines, low ground clearance, and coupe-like rear glass which further adds maturity to the appearance. Between the wheels, the Sentra offers 106.6-inches of shape while bumper-to-bumper measures 182.7-inches long. All in all, the sedan stands out from the rivals in the crowd.

The 2022 Nissan Sentra would remain the heaviest compact sedan in the crowd, but the low ground clearance makes the Sentra look sportier. The 2022 Hyundai Elantra offers a long body, yet the longest wheelbase in the segment is offered on the Honda Civic. The other two sedans, Sentra and Corolla look distinctively appealing and attractive too. However, if you are looking for something that looks more modern in terms of its design, the Elantra is the one to go for, closely followed by the new Civic.

Exterior Features:

  • 16-, 17-, or 18-inch alloy wheels
  • LED projector headlamps
  • Signature LED daytime running lights
  • Available LED fog lights
  • LED taillamps
  • Heated outside mirrors w/ integrated LED turn signals
  • Available power sliding glass moonroof w/ tilt feature

Safety
6.0/10

The 2022 Nissan Sentra will not receive any significant additions to the safety features. It will retain the sturdy frame and robust chassis from the 2021 Sentra that was crowned with IIHS’ "2021 Top Safety Pick" title while NHTSA gave it a perfect score in overall safety ratings. The 2022 Sentra is expected to add Nissan’s Safety Shield 360 to the existing plethora of features.

Safety Features:

  • Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection
  • Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)
  • Blind Spot Warning
  • Rear Cross-Traffic Alert
  • Lane Departure Warning
  • High Beam Assist
  • Rear Door Alert
  • Driver Alertness Monitor

2022 Nissan Sentra vs 2022 Toyota Corolla

The 2022 Toyota Corolla is one of the best-selling nameplates in the States, and there's a reason why the 2022 Nissan Sentra doesn't match it. The Corolla offers 8 distinctive trims, more than one powertrain option, and even a hybrid variant. The Nissan Sentra is more subtle, and just the upper SR trim is somewhat decent in terms of the interior as compared to the inexpensive base trim, which is full of cheap plastics.

The Corolla offers a much more upscale and roomy cabin, thus coming out to be a better option between the two. In terms of reliability, the Sentra is more reliable than the Corolla but with the limited choice on the Sentra, the Corolla is overall a better pick.

2022 Nissan Sentra vs 2022 Honda Civic

The 2022 Honda Civic is a better choice if performance is a priority. It boasts a significantly higher torque figure, is quicker and agile, and great behind the wheel, as compared to the 2022 Nissan Sentra. The Civic also has the better interior of the two. Thus, the Civic is a better buy if one doesn't want to comprise with a daily commute.

The CVT transmission of the 2022 Honda Civic deserves laud as it makes the CVT of the Sentra seem lethargic. While with the complete new looks the Civic does look fresher and better than the Sentra which will sway a lot of prospective buyers towards it.

2022 Nissan Sentra vs 2022 Hyundai Elantra

Both the Sentra and the Elantra appeal to the kind of buyers looking for a no-frills reliable commuter compact sedan, but the 2022 Hyundai Elantra has a more stylish and modern design both in terms of exterior and interior.

The 2022 Elantra is also the cheapest of the two when configured in base trim, making it a better choice for a day-to-day commuter.

Final Verdict
7.5/10

The 2022 Nissan Sentra will remain unchanged since it got a recent refresh in 2020. It remains a potent compact sedan with great interior comfort and practicality. However, rivals from Honda and Toyota offer more within the same price bracket. The Civic offers immense power and performance along with upscale and more luxe interiors as compared to the Nissan Sentra. The Corolla offers a trim for everyone along with different engines to better suit the requirement. Overall, the Sentra is a great car under a certain budget, but you are better off with one of the rivals.

              Great vehicle

Pros - ["Gas saver very great on gas best I've ever dealt with", "Cold ac AC gets really icy cold"]

Cons - ["SMALL SPACE if your a bigger person is in r recommend you not getting it", "Nothing else that I really dislike about this vehicle I love everything about it"]

I love my vehicle it rides so so smooth it's a great gas saver I just hate how small it is it is definitely reliable and id refer a small family to utilize what this vehicle has to offer all day it's very worth every dollar

Forale Clarke 22' Nissan Sentra color Super Blacc

Pros - ["Very fast response ring time", "The color is the car and heated seats"]

Cons - ["The sport button is really just the over drive only it doesn't seem to come with engine to dd", "Wish they made a standard option with a 5 speed or 8 speed dual clutch or 12 speed dual clutch transmission"]

Love the car just wish it actually had a sport option not just an overdrive feature.... And hate the fact that not a lot of manufacturers make standard transmissions anymore it's almost like a sin anymore I swear
