Overview

The practical 2022 Nissan Rogue gets a mid-cycle minor interior and exterior refresh. Further, Nissan also equips the 2022 Rogue with an all-new powerful 1.5L VC-Turbo engine. Setting aside the powertrain figures, the compact crossover SUV offers a modern look, fresh technology, and one of the most practical cabins with two rows of seating. Safety also takes precedence this time around, with the latest Nissan Safety Shield 360 feature list being offered as standard across the trim lineup.

Because the 2022 Rogue is majorly unchanged, its pricing will be similar to the 2021 model, as the Rogue now starts from $26,500. Nissan is yet to announce the release date, but we expect the 2022 Rogue to go on sale later this year. The Nissan Rogue competes with the likes of the Volkswagen Tiguan, Mazda CX-5, Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4, and Hyundai Tucson in this hyper-competitive compact crossover segment.

Buying Advice

The Nissan Rogue is priced competitively, and the Japanese manufacturer has refrained from hybridizing the SUV in order to keep costs low and the prices more accessible. The Rogue is an excellent example of offering true value for money, as seen in the higher trims with many features but a justifiable difference in the price tag. The Rogue will definitely give you more than you pay for, in all its trims. We recommend the Platinum trim for a little more premium quality all around. For a modern bareboned SUV to satisfy the daily commute, the SV trim should suffice.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

"Handsome new styling, improved on-road demeanor, better cabin tech." - CarandDriver.com

For the 2022 model, the Rogue doesn’t get any major tweaks since it was only upgraded last year. The 2022 Rogue is a competitive car in the compact segment and has all the potential to earn a big share. It ticks all the boxes right in terms of good safety ratings, plush interior, comfortable ride quality, and ample technology. The Nissan Rogue also performs well on gas, with best-in-class EPA ratings. In this review of the Nissan Rogue, we shall find out everything that the Rogue has got on offer, compare it to its rivals and decide whether the Rogue is really worth the money.

Features
9.0/10

Nissan Rogue will essentially be the same for 2022, hence, we aren’t expecting any changes in the trim levels or structure for that matter. The 2022 Rogue will be available in four trim levels S, SV, SL, and Platinum. Pricing for the new Rogue begins from $25,850 for the base S with FWD and ranges up to $35,530 for the new top-of-the-line Platinum trim. Similarly, the 2022 Nissan Rogue's price will be mostly unchanged. Nissan hasn’t yet announced the release date for the 2022 Rogue but we expect it to hit the showrooms in the last quarter of 2021.

Fuel Economy
6.0/10

The most impressive aspect of the latest Nissan Rogue is its exemplary fuel economy ratings. EPA estimated the Rogue's four-cylinder at 27 mpg in the city and 35 mpg on the highway. With the AWD models, the gas mileage drops to 26 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway.

Nissan has the best fuel economy numbers in the competition including Tiguan and CX-5. The Volkswagen Tiguan on the other hand delivers the lowest fuel economy numbers, rated at 25 MPG combined. The Mazda CX-5 delivers about 28 MPG combined while the Tucson delivers 29 MPG combined which is the second-best in the competition.

Interior
7.0/10

"The Rogue is competitive with leaders including the Honda CR-V when it comes to maximum cargo space. " Motortrend.com

The interiors of the 2022 Nissan Rogue look surprisingly plush for a car in this segment and mid-$20,000 price point. The cabin of the Rogue is well laid out; it looks quite upmarket. Nissan offers 8 different interior colors and trims to choose from and no other car in the segment offers such privilege. Jump onto the driver’s seat and you’ll see a rather large yet sporty flat-bottom heated steering wheel that is wrapped in leather. Behind the steering wheel, there’s a 12” customizable digital gauge cluster which is pretty slick and displays all the necessary information. In the center of the dash, sits an 8'' floating touch screen infotainment system display. The infotainment screen is of good quality and is quite intuitive and easy to use.

The Rogue is also quite spacious on the inside and 5 adults can fit in quite comfortably in the car. The head, shoulder, and legroom at the front and the back are good, and even tall people will not have any problems fitting in whatsoever. At the front, you get heated seats, power-adjustable in 8 different positions. The zero-gravity front seats offer good support and are very snug. The front seats also have side bolsters on them as you would find on seats in a sports car and those bolsters just hold you firmly in place. You get fabric covers on the seats as standard with the base trim level but as you climb the trim levels you get high-quality leather-wrapped seats that feel much more upscale.

Features like Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are offered as standard along with AM/FM radio and Sirius XM radio. The top trim level of the Rogue gets a premium 10-speaker Bose audio system including a dual subwoofer which simply is the best in the segment. The lower trim levels get a 6-speaker audio system which is average and not all that really great.

The Rogue does really well when it comes to practicality as well. Along with a large boot, the Rogue also has lots of storage spaces on the inside. At the front, there are two cupholders in the center console and there’s also a wireless mobile charging pad. There’s also a small storage area below the floating center console and also below the front armrest. There’s also a fairly normal-sized illuminated glove box at the front where you can store some other bits.

At the back, there’s the center armrest that has cup holders to hold your drink and there’s also a parcel shelf behind the seats. Behind the second row, the Rogue offers about 36.5 cubic feet of cargo area which is decent for a car in this segment. Fold the second row down and then you open up to about 73 cubic feet of cargo area which is pretty large and you can stuff in all that you want. On the whole, Nissan has nailed it when it comes to the interiors and this is easily one of the most opulent, practical, and feature-rich interiors in the segment.

Interior features include:

  • Optional 9-speaker premium audio system
  • Dual-panel moonroof
  • Dual or 3-zone ACC for convenience
  • Leather-wrapped steering wheel and upholstery (optional)

Exterior
6.0/10

"It’s not bad. It doesn’t go out of its way to stand out in this homogenous class, but it also doesn’t blend into obscurity. " - TheCarConnection.com

The 2022 Nissan Rogue looks beefy and brawny on the outside, thanks to the redesign last year. Nissan, on the other hand, has adopted a rather simpler approach and the Rogue isn’t all that curvaceous and it has a boxy shape and a truck-like appearance. At the front, there’s that large signature Nissan V-Motion grille which looks cool and unique. Then there are those multi-level, split headlights that add flair and drama to the car's front face. Then you have a fake silver skid plate at the bottom that makes the car look more SUVish and ‘off-road’ from the front.

On the side, there are those blacked-out wheel arches that further help it look SUV-ish. The chiseled fenders and the rather simple side profile make the car look rugged and sturdy. There’s nothing all that interesting at the back though. It almost feels like the back end was designed in a hurry and it just looks very boring and ordinary.

You just get those odd-shaped taillights and a blacked-out bumper with silver trim that again looks like a skid plate. Overall, we think that Rogue is a handsome car and while it might not attract as much attention, it still has got lots of attitudes. The list of exterior features of the Rogue can be extensive. We’ve shortlisted a few important and interesting features offered in the 2022 Nissan Rogue and listed them down below.:

  • 19” aluminum-alloy wheels.
  • Power liftgate.
  • Intelligent auto headlights.
  • LED brake lights.
  • Rear integrated spoiler.
  • Chrome door handles.
  • Heated mirrors with turn signal indicators.
  • Speed-sensitive variable intermittent wipers.
  • Perimeter/approach lights.
  • UV-reducing solar glass.

Safety
7.0/10

The 2022 Rogue is a carryover model from the 2021 and hence it's expected to either match or better the good safety ratings. The 2021 Rogue gets an impressive 4-star overall rating from the NHTSA and an overall ‘Good’ rating from the IIHS. Moreover, the Rogue is also the IIHS’ ‘2021 TOP SAFETY PICK +’ which simply implies that this is one of the safest cars in the segment.

On top of all this, Nissan has equipped the Rogue with a standard Safety Shield 360 safety suite which includes modern safety and driver assistance features such as automatic emergency braking, a lane-departure warning, rear cross-traffic alert, a blind-spot warning, automatic rear braking, and automatic high-beam headlights.

We’ve listed down a few standout features below:

  • Nissan ProPILOT assist
  • Intelligent emergency braking
  • Intelligent lane intervention with lane-keeping assist and lane departure warning
  • Intelligent blind spot monitoring system
  • Side-impact beams
  • 360-degree surround-view camera
  • Driver and passenger knee airbags and rear side-impact airbags
  • Breakaway engine mounts

Competition
9.0/10

2022 Nissan Rogue vs 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan

The Nissan Rogue and the VW Tiguan compete closely with each other. In terms of price, the Nissan is slightly cheaper than the Tiguan. On the other hand, the VW gets a turbocharged engine and has more power and torque on offer than the Rogue.

However, those extra power numbers do not quite translate into better acceleration numbers and both cars deliver similar 0-60 MPH and quarter-mile acceleration numbers. The Rogue gets the upper hand in terms of fuel economy and delivers way better fuel economy than the Tiguan. Now, if you badly need those 2 extra seats and if you often have to haul 7 people around, then the VW Tiguan makes sense over the Nissan Rogue. However, if you’re never going to use those third-row seats then the Tiguan makes no sense at all and you should totally opt for the Rogue.

2022 Nissan Rogue vs 2022 Mazda CX-5

The Mazda CX-5 is yet another hot-selling crossover SUV. Just like the Rogue, the CX-5 too ticks all the boxes right and has pretty much everything on offer that you would expect from a car in this segment. However, if you compare the numbers, you’ll notice the Rogue has a slight edge over the CX-5.

The Rogue is slightly bigger than the CX-5 and hence offers better passenger space and cargo volume. Moreover, the Rogue also offers better fuel economy than the Mazda. In our honest opinion, the Nissan Rogue is the better car of the two. It’s not that the CX-5 is a bad car, but the Rogue is just a bit more superior.

2022 Nissan Rogue vs 2022 Hyundai Tucson

The Hyundai Tucson has always been one of the most sought-after cars in the segment and with the 2022 model, the Tucson has just got better than it ever was. The Tucson now looks bolder, gets a very refined engine under the hood, offers better passenger space, and comes with lots of tech features.

The competition between the Rogue and Tucson is tough and it is very difficult to choose a clear winner. Both the cars are equally good but we’ll put our money on the Tucson. Brownie points to the Tucson for the futuristic design and extra bit of passenger and cargo space.

Final Verdict

In the compact crossover segment, the Nissan Rogue has gone the real deal after the 2021 redesign. The new Rogue gets a stiffer structure, more standard safety features, updated powertrain, and improved features. It looks great on the outside and has a very plush cabin on the inside. It comes loaded with tech features Though the 2.5-liter 4-cylinder sees an improvement of 10 percent, the Rogue lacks the driver engagement of its rivals. However, the latest Rogue is the best-driving model to date, along with a plusher ride. Plus, it delivers the best fuel economy numbers in the segment and you’ll end up saving a lot on fuel expenses.

              I love my rogue!

Pros - ["The sunroof", "The backup camera"]

Cons - ["The emergency stop", "No ac seats"]

I think the nissan rogue is pretty nice. I like it's sunroof and the push to start. There are a lot of safety features. I think this is my forever car for sure. I hope that this car lasts a lifetime so my future family can enjoy it.

My car is awesome on gas, I drive a lot to run arrends and take kids to school far distances.

Pros - ["Good on gas", "Very roomy"]

Cons - ["Nothing at all", "Nothing at all"]

In overall I feel this car is the perfect car for me and my family to use on a regular basis. It's cost efficient and perfect fit for my small family. It is very safe and runs like a dream. The interior is nice and very clean.
