Overview

The 2022 Chevy Equinox has been released with minor tweaks on the inside and noticeable styling updates on the outside such as revised lighting units and grille for a starting price of $25,800. Not only that, the Chevy Equinox RS 2022 further extends the trim lineup of LS, LT, and Premier with its standalone powerhouse of 170-hp 1.5L turbo-4 after ditching the 2.0L turbo-4 engine. Capable of towing 1,500 lbs in a go with an interior cargo capacity of up to 63.9 cu-ft, it stays one of the practical SUVs in the segment.

2022 Chevrolet Equinox Buying Advice

Regarding the build stature and safety status, the Equinox 2022 is no different than its predecessors. This stays true in terms of standard features as well to a large extent. Hence, one can go for 2021 MY instead of spending an extra $2,000 right away for 2022 MY.

The 2022 Equinox specs to be a 5-seater SUV with a fuel economy hitting a bar of up to 31 MPG at its best that tends to bring it in contention against the might of the Honda CR-V, the Ford Escape, and the Subaru Forester. That being said, its spacious interior alongside an 8-exterior color palette further strengthens its stance amid such stiff competition as well.

2022 Chevrolet Equinox for sale

The 2022 Equinox has an average lease deal offer of $281/month for 36 months considering a yearly range of 12,000 miles. But it can shift to $296/month for the same period if the yearly coverage goes to 15,000 miles. In addition to that, one has got have a payment of $1,395 as a destination too.

Buying Advice

The LT trim is the recommended model from our side as it adds some necessities such as an 8-way power driver's seat, HID headlamps, SiriusXM, and a 4.2-inch color driver's display. Also, add the $1,395 Driver Convenience package to your shopping list as it adds some important creature c comforts like adds dual-zone climate control, remote engine start, front heated seats, a leather steering wheel, and a power tailgate.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

Having been introduced in the price range of $25,800-$32,600, the Equinox models engineer themselves to be as fast as 124 MPH while having a peak payload capacity of 1,190 lbs, both of which stand for a decent outplay. However, its J.D power rating of 81 projects the scope of improvement for this hauler throughout its production line.

Apart from these, one gets his/her attention towards the maintenance investment that comes out to be $5,484 for Equinox RS and $4,526 for the 2022 Chevy Equinox LS after 5 years. While the depreciation in resale could be a matter from $10,944 to $14,090 for the LS and RS respectively after the same time interval along with an average repairing of $840.

Buying Advice

The LT trim is the recommended model from our side as it adds some necessities such as an 8-way power driver's seat, HID headlamps, SiriusXM, and a 4.2-inch color driver's display. Features
7.0/10

The 2022 Chevrolet Equinox LS is the starter of the trim hierarchy priced at an MSRP of $25,800 for standard virtues like the 6-speaker audio and Chevrolet Infotainment 3 system. And, the $1,100 more expensive LT trim differentiates itself from the former with additional features such as the 4.2-inch color driver’s display and 8-way power-adjustable driver’s seat.

Fuel Economy

Gas mileage is one Equinox strength- The Car Connection

This is the area where the small engine of the Chevy Equinox shines. The EPA estimates that if you choose the FWD variant, then you will get 26 MPG in the city, 31 MPG on the highways, and 28 MPG combined. However, the 2022 Equinox AWD drops down the fuel economy by 1 MPG.

Moreover, the 2022 Equinox FWD versions get a 14.9-gallon fuel tank whereas AWD variants are fitted with a gas tank size of 15.6 gallons. As a result, one can expect 417 miles of combined range from the FWD layout that shoots to 421 miles with the latter one.

Interior
7.0/10

Made from durable materials and nicely styled, the Equinox's cabin should draw broad appeal- CarAndDriver

The 2022 Chevy Equinox interior features nothing more than premium cloth finish seats inside it for the LS, LT, and RS trims. Considering the comfort, the 4-way manually adjustable front seats are the ones to occupy the Equinox LS that can be changed to an 8-way power-adjustable driver’s seat for the LT along with a leather-wrapped steering wheel from RS onwards.

Extending the convenience for the 2022 Equinox interior is the heated front row inside the cabin of the RS and Premier. Not just that, in terms of specifics, we have got perforated leatherette seats as well for the Equinox Premier configuration. In addition to this, there is a cargo capacity of 29.9 cu-ft that spans to 63.9 cu-ft when all the seats are made to bow down.

However, the story goes other way round when it is compared against the Forester where the former enjoys an extra 1 cu-ft this time. Meanwhile, the standard Chevrolet Infotainment 3 system takes care of your control settings.

The 2022 Equinox has been packed with other specs as well like a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay & Android Auto right from the LS edition. While the 4.2-inch color driver’s display is fitted for the LT and higher trims. We have been given 6-speaker audio for our musical tunes that remains as it is for all, unlike the exclusive 8-inch diagonal HD color touchscreen of the Premier variant.

The 2022 Equinox features updated styling that gives it a more mature look- MotorTrend

For the 2022 model year, the Chevy Equinox gets a new fascia, both at the front and the rear. Starting from the face, the grille is now wider and sports a more aggressive design. New slimmer LED headlights have been given to highlight the front fascia of the SUV as well. And the recently appointed RS trim certainly looks the sportiest out of the bunch with the gloss black grille, blacked-out badging, and dark 19-inch wheels among other elements.

You can now have LED headlights, gloss-black chrome, and logo protection on the power tailgate. All these updates should keep Equinox reasonably fresh for years to come. Moreover, it rides on the 17-inch, 18-inch, and 19-inch alloy wheels and charms in 8 exterior color shades such as the Blue Glow Metallic, Mosaic Black Metallic, and Iron Gray Metallic.

Competition

2022 Chevrolet Equinox vs 2022 Honda CR-V

Many consider the Honda CR-V as the benchmark of the segment, and for good reasons too. It has a comfortable ride, a quality interior, and one of the largest cargo holds in the class to offer. Unlike Equinox, the CR-V also delivers a robust performance and capable handling complemented by impressive efficiency like typical Hondas. Overall, the CR-V is superior to the 2022 Equinox in all respects.

2022 Chevrolet Equinox vs 2022 Ford Escape

Both are American-borne crossovers and still, both are poles apart in what they offer. The Ford Escape is available with two engines and it also offers a quicker acceleration. Its fuel economy is also better than Chevy Equinox LS and other variants. On the infotainment front, the Equinox offers a larger touchscreen with smartphone integration whereas it is optional in the Escape. More safety features keep the Equinox forefront.

2022 Chevrolet Equinox vs 2022 Subaru Forester

The Subaru Forester is quite easily one of the best crossovers in the segment when it comes to the driving experience thanks to its responsive handling but its engine power is mediocre. Both the SUVs have spacious interiors but Forester's cabin is more refined. Also, its cargo hold is one of the best in the segment. Compared to that, Equinox is just an average offering here.

Final Verdict

The 2022 Chevrolet Equinox may not be the most compelling due to its forefront flaws like an average interior quality and the weak four-cylinder engine. It ven feels a little compromised in driving dynamics and interior involvement. So, it is currently not the best fit for all.
