Overview

Part of the fifth generation, the Toyota's best-selling crossover, the 2022 RAV4 gains sleek new headlights and a new SE Hybrid trim. With a tweaked exterior and interior, Toyota refreshed the RAV4 that could help its safety score as well. Following the same-old recipe, the regular Toyota RAV4 will be powered by the same 2.5L Inline-4 engine, while the RAV4 Prime, will have the same engine, but tuned to deliver 302 hp. the 2022 RAV4 will go on sale next month, offering its customers strong safety and reliability ratings, great fuel economy, generous standard features, and a spacious interior. In the compact SUV  class, the Toyota RAV4 ticks all boxes and is a respectable pick in front of well-rounded rivals including Honda CR-V, Nissan Rogue, and Mazda CX-5.

Priced at an expected starting MSRP of $26,650, the 2022 Toyota RAV4 will also possibly get the latest Human Machine Interface infotainment unit. Moreover, moving on, the trims as such will also have a feature reshuffle, with the latest driver assistance features being added on as standard from the base trim itself. Ever since its inception in 1996, the RAV4 has been among one of the most sought-after vehicles in its class. Perhaps this is the reason why it is one of the best-selling vehicles in the market right now.

Buying Advice

Among the various options listed above, the one making striking the best value for the price is the mid-range XLE Premium. It adds many creature comforts like dual-zone climate control, power-adjustability to the driver’s seat, and blind-spot monitoring to the equation. The trim also supports the individual options as well which makes it more practical and comfortable than the other trims.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

The reason why RAV4 is so loved by the masses is that where other vehicles offer something specific, RAV4 tries to exceed in every aspect, and somehow it does succeed. Known for its excellent driving experience, stunning visuals, soothing and comfortable interior, and exceptional towing capacity, the 2022 RAV4 is truly among one of the best in its class. On top of that, it holds Toyota’s name which is known for making vehicles with exceptional build quality and reliability. So now you know why it is so good in its segment. But that doesn't mean it is class-leading, because its rivals such as Honda CR-V, Mazda CX-5, and Nissan Rogue also offer strong competition.

What is the price of the 2022 Toyota RAV4?

The official pricing of the 2022 Toyota RAV4 hasn't been revealed yet, will be out closer to the on-sale date. Having said that, with only minor changes to headlights being brought this year, the prices are expected to be more or less around the similar ballpark of MSRP $26,650.

What is the release date of the 2022 Toyota RAV4?

The release of the 2022 Toyota RAV4 is expected to be December 2021, when the SUV goes on sale. Although, as previous year releases go, we expect the 2022 Toyota RAV4 to hit showrooms somewhere around the end of this year.

Features
8.0/10

For the 2022 model year, the Toyota RAV4 will be carried over as it is and due to this, we don’t expect much change in the trims on offer as well. For the current model year, Toyota offers the RAV4 in 6 varied trims - LE, XLE, XLE Premium, Adventure, TRD Off-Road, and Limited - all of which are well-endowed in terms of features. Prices for the base trim should start from an MSRP of $26,650 and go all the way up to $37,000. To get an idea of what all features are there in each trim, read below.

The RAV4’s standard features list is a long one, which can be further amplified by adding options on supporting trims. Some of the highlighting options include a panoramic sunroof, Heated and ventilated front seats, wireless charging pad, and heated steering wheel. Adding these options will cost extra and can increase the base price substantially.

Fuel Economy
5.0/10

The 2022 Toyota RAV4 will offer the same impressive mileage as it remains mechanically unchanged. You can expect to get 27 MPG in the city, 35 MPG on the highways, and 30 MPG when combined. These stats are amazing and the 14.5 gallons fuel tank capacity is the cherry on the top. Overall it will offer a class-leading driving range varying from 391 miles to 507 miles. The performance of the Toyota RAV4 might disappoint some, but it makes up for it by offering one of the best mileage in its class.

When compared to its rivals, both Toyota RAV4 and Nissan Rogue take the lead by sharing the same stats. The Mazda CX-5 offers a slightly lower fuel economy compared to its rivals but nonetheless, it has the largest fuel tank in the competition.

Interior
6.0/10

Interior design in the RAV4 is simple and streamlined - Motortrend

Seeing how there will be no changes in the upcoming 2022 Toyota RAV4, most of the interior will stay the same. It is not a bad thing, as it is already pretty good. The whole interior design is a visual treat. It is a mixture of mostly straight lines with random curves which never feels like an odd design to go for. The whole two-tone color grading is an excellent choice to attract the crowd. This is a Toyota, on top of that it's the RAV4 we are talking about, so expect decent quality materials which never feel cheap. The dashboard design is pretty unique as a big shelf that spans underneath from left to right and complements the center console with HVAC.

Both the steering wheel and the gear shift knob feel well designed and are surrounded by physical controls with great ergonomics. The driver’s accessibility while driving is decent but the seating position in the default position might be a problem as the front seats might feel a bit high, hindering visibility for some. The cabin size is decent in its segment and can host five occupants. Getting in and out of the vehicle is relatively easy but we do have one gripe with it, which we would like Toyota to address.

It’s the front passenger seat on the base trim; it lacks the adjustment options. This will force buyers to opt for higher trims. On higher trims, you do get heated front bucket seats. As for the infotainment system, the base to mid-tier trims will get a 7-inch touchscreen, and the rest will get an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen. Although we do expect the optional wireless charging feature to turn into a standard one on all trims for the 2022 model year.

While compared to its rivals, the RAV4 does feel a bit smaller in size as its rivals offer higher passenger volume. But that doesn't stop RAV4 from offering a comfortable cabin with ample room for its occupants. Not to mention the 37.6 cubic feet of cargo space which is one of the biggest in its class, and if you fold down the rear seats it increases up to 69.7 cubic feet.

Some of the most highlighting features in the RAV4’s interior are:

  • Toyota SofTex simulated leather upholstery
  • Sunroof
  • Heated front seats
  • Premium 11-speaker JBL audio system
  • Panoramic sunroof (optional)
  • Heated steering wheel
  • Heated and ventilated front seats (optional)
  • Wireless charging pad

Exterior
8.0/10

The RAV4's square-jawed looks are inspired by the 4Runner SUV and Tacoma pickup truck, but its car-based construction delivers a smoother ride than either of those trucks - Car and Driver

It started as a boxy-shaped SUV with more straights than the curves you could count. As time progressed, those curves clearly took over the straights and the recent redesign in 2019 clearly made it a handsome devil and it seems the 2022 Toyota RAV4 will keep the same design. The new beefy look with a truck-like grille is more than enough to attract the crowd. But that’s not all, on the sides the sharp corners over fenders provide it a sporty appearance.

Then comes the rear with pointy and mysterious tail lights with a big rear bumper and two exhaust tips. This design stays the same on all trims except the TRD Offroad, which gets hunkier, and comes with exclusive wheels made for off-roading. The exhaust tip upgrade for TRD off-road also changes its position from the rear to an opening from the bonnet.

The trunk opening on the RAV4 is decent with the lowered rear end, making it perfect for loading heavy stuff easily. Dimensions wise it is pretty close to the other vehicles in its class, but it does offer class-leading ground clearance, making it perfect for offroading.

Further below are some of its key exterior features:

  • LED headlamps
  • Black hexagonal grille
  • 19-inch multi-spoke super chrome alloy wheels
  • Body-colored power heated side mirrors with turn signal indicators
  • Dual chrome exhaust tips
  • Active grille shutters
  • Puddle lights

Safety
8.0/10

Toyota is well known for making solid vehicles with excellent safety quotient and the RAV4 is one of them. So we expect the same level of safety from the 2022 Toyota RAV4. The current version scores full five stars by the NHTSA and the maximum possible rating of ‘Good’ from the IIHS. It has also been rewarded with the ‘Top Safety Pick’ award from the IIHS.

Expect it to have standard safety features such as daytime running lights, front and rear parking sensors, lane departure warning and assist system, and blind-spot detection. Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 suite will include a rear cross-traffic alert. Some of the above-mentioned features are optional on the current model, so we expect these to be standard features in the upcoming model.

Competition
8.5/10

2022 Toyota RAV4 vs 2022 Honda CR-V

The Toyota RAV4 is clearly faster than the CR-V on straights, whereas the CR-V has a more spacious cabin. But the RAV4 competes by offering a better driving experience and fuel economy. Moreover, the latter has a better road presence than the former. The CR-V is also expected to undergo a refresh for 2022 so wait before making a decision. Having said that, both these stalwarts are two of the best-selling SUVs in the segment, and it solely comes upon you to choose between the two.

2022 Toyota RAV4 vs 2022 Mazda CX-5

When pushed against the Mazda CX-5, Mazda easily outruns the RAV4 by having better acceleration. But RAV4 offers better fuel economy and a bigger cabin with better cargo capacity. The CX-5 also has a very distinctive road presence among all the other compact crossover SUVs in the market but it loses its edge quite significantly with regards to practicality.

Final Verdict

The 2022 Toyota RAV4 feels like a vehicle that will prove out to be strong by holding on to its core qualities. It is expected to offer an impressive driving experience, impeccable fuel economy, gorgeous visuals, an extremely comfortable cabin, and exceptional towing capabilities. So despite getting no new changes, it is already looking pretty solid even when stacked up against its rivals. The only negative it has is a weak acceleration which quickly gets overshadowed by its qualities. But still, we would love it if Toyota somehow churns more power by tweaking the current four-cylinder engine.

Best car I have ever driven when it comes to family cars or suv

Pros - ["Low maintenance", "Comfortable ride and a great car", "Has great mpg and runs like a dream"]

Cons - ["None I can think of love the car", "None I can think of love the car", "None I can think of love the car"]

I love this suv it get me front pony a to b with no problem doesn't chug gas like others car very great mpg and a comfortable ride to drive all day in wouldn't trade this car for another and I feel real safe in this car aswell.
