With its historical origins as one of the first compact crossovers ever launched, the RAV4 is still going strong all these years later as one of the best-selling models by the brand. Currently, in its fifth generation, the RAV4 offers all the usual Toyota traits like stellar reliability, high efficiency, and a spacious cabin. The recently launched TRD model also includes enhancements for some decent off-road capabilities, while those focusing on efficiency can opt for the Prime models with a hybrid powertrain.

Toyota is generally known for its high reliability and the 2022 RAV4 continues the trend with just 1 recall and 25 registered complaints. Let's take a look at all the issues reported and check how reliable the popular crossover is.

2022 Toyota RAV4 User Complaints and Problems

Mechanical Problems

  • Engine - In some rare cases, owners report rough idling issues with the engine, which is usually traced back to the fuel system.
  • Brakes - Excessive shuddering and limited braking performance were reported even with normal usage. A lot of these brake issues after going over rough spots on the road.
  • Fuel system - Some owners reported issues with the fuel warning light coming on early, even with fuel in the tank.

Electrical Problems

  • Electrical malfunction - Some electrical malfunctions like the stability control system malfunctioning and driver assistance systems failing were reported.

Safety Problems

Should you buy the 2022 Toyota RAV4?

With just one recall to consider and a limited number of consumer complaints, the RAV4 retains its crown as one of the most reliable options in the segment. With the addition of a new TRD model and the recently launched Prime models, Toyota offers a wide range of trims to choose from. Despite the tough competition, the RAV4 still comes with plenty of selling points, most notably the comfortable cabin, usability, and most importantly, reliability. If you’re considering one, watch out for the most common issues like shuddering brakes, windshield cracking, and fueling issues. A thorough inspection is recommended for used RAV4s.
