Overview

The Honda HR-V has been the smallest SUV on offer from the brand. It has also been one of the best-selling small SUVs in the United States. Redesigned completely just last year, it's natural for Honda to continue with the same new-generation HR-V for 2024. The 2024 Honda HR-V carries on with its sleek exterior design, sophisticated interior, and mediocre performance from its tried and tested powertrain.

The 2024 Honda HR-V price starts at $24,100, and for that price, it can be one of the Honda cars to consider in 2024. The Honda HR-V has also been among the top 30 cheapest SUVs to buy in 2023. The HR-V 2024 model is expected to get the same hybrid powertrain as the Accord Hybrid. It competes with the likes of the 2024 Kia Seltos, 2024 Subaru Crosstrek, and 2024 Mazda CX-30. Buying Advice

Out of the three well-laid 2024 Honda HR-V configurations, we would recommend the mid-tier Sport trim. It is $1,550 more expensive than the base LX trim but offers many more features. Some features include slightly different exterior styling, bigger 18-inch alloy wheels, smart entry with walk-away auto-lock, remote engine start, heated front seats, push-button start, and a few more.

    Comparative Analysis against Competition

Out of the many 2024 Honda vehicles, the 2024 HR-V is a good choice for those looking for a compact SUV. The refined styling, comfortable and practical interiors, and many driver-assistance features make it a well-balanced package. The HR-V 2024 model received an overall score of 83/100 in the J.D. Power Consumer Rating. For reliability and resale, it scored 81/100 and 89/100, which can be considered great. For driving and dealership experience, it scored 81/100 and 80/100, which is very good as well.

The 2024 HR-V LX FWD can be financed for a term of 48 months at a low APR of 3.99% for $624 per month. The same model can also be leased for a term of 36 months, with $254 per month and $4,497 due at signing. However, the annual mileage limit is set at 10,000 miles. The finance and lease schemes are bound to change with models, buyer profiles, and the duration of the selected scheme.

    Features
    8.0/10

If you’re in the market for the new 2024 Honda HR-V, then you’ve got 3 trims to choose from, which are the LX, Sport, and EX-L trims. All of the trims come with the same powertrain. The base LX trim comes at a starting price of $24,100, the Sports trim comes at $25,650, and the EX-L comes at $27,650.

A destination fee of $1,325 is charged above the base prices of the trims. The good thing is that all the trims get access to the available AWD, which is usually reserved for higher trims only. Also, many driver-assistance features are standard. Some key features of every trim are mentioned below.

    Engine and Performance
    7.0/10

The 2024 Honda HR-V gets access to only a single powertrain as of now. A 2.0-liter inline-four engine with 158 hp and 138 lb-ft of torque. The same engine is the base powertrain for the Honda Civic 2024 model as well. The power is sent to the front wheels as standard, while all-wheel drive is optional across all the trims for an additional $1,500. The engine is tuned to a CVT as standard.

In terms of performance, the 2024 Honda HR-V 0-60 sprint time of 9.4 seconds is not enthusiastic in any way. The quarter-mile time of 17.3 seconds is more as well. The Honda HR-V's specs are quite decent, but the CVT is one of the reasons for lethargic acceleration. A conventional automatic gearbox would have been better. Fortunately, the handling is quite good, and so is the ride quality.

Among all the four subcompact SUVs on this list, the Mazda CX-30 takes first place because of its bigger engine and slick transmission, which produce the most horsepower among its rivals. It goes from 0 to 60 in 8.1 seconds. The second place is taken by the Subaru Crosstrek because of its quick 0-60 with 9.1 seconds, closely followed by the Honda HR-V, which goes from 0-60 within 9.4 seconds, and then the Kia Seltos, which is the slowest of all the 4 cars, achieving 0-60 in 9.9 seconds.

    Fuel Economy
    6.5/10

The 2024 Honda HR-V is a relatively fuel-efficient vehicle that allows you to save up some money on fuel costs while still enjoying all the features that the SUV provides. The Honda HR-V mpg ratings are 26 mpg city, 32 mpg highway, and 28 mpg combined. Opting for the all-wheel drive system will reduce the fuel economy to 25 mpg city, 30 mpg highway, and 27 mpg combined. With a gas tank size of 14.0 gallons, the HR-V can offer a maximum range of 448 miles.

Here on the first position lies the Subaru Crosstrek which is a very efficient SUV and has the best driving range among all of the above SUVs. It is closely followed by the Mazda CX-30; it's not too far behind the Crosstrek. In third position comes the Honda HR-V which is also a very efficient subcompact SUV but falls behind in terms of driving range. And then the last position is the Kia Seltos which is also an efficient vehicle but among SUVs it is the least fuel efficient.

    Interior
    8.0/10

The Honda HR-V 2024 interior is very much inspired by the new-gen Civic's interior styling. The dashboard layout, air vent design, gauge cluster, and infotainment screen are almost the same. However, that does not make it a poor design by any means. Though not as modern as some of its rivals, the cabin is decent enough. The front seats are comfortable and provide decent support. Some of the convenience features, like automatic climate control, push-button start, rear seat heater ducts, and cargo area lights, are standard.

The base LX and the mid-tier trim get cloth upholstery in black, while the top-tier EX-L trim gets perforated leather upholstery in black and gray color options. One of the USPs of the HR-V's interior is practicality. You can find enough cubbies and storage places across the cabin to place your stuff. With a cargo space of 24.4 cubic feet and 55.1 cubic feet with the second row down, you can carry much of your luggage without any hassles.

All of the SUV’s interiors are quite spacious, but the Kia Seltos takes first place with its overall interior spacing and trunk capacity. It is closely followed by the Honda HR-V, which also has a pretty spacious interior and a good trunk capacity, and then comes the Mazda CX-30 with its huge trunk capacity and good interior spacing. The last place is taken by the Subaru Crosstrek, which falls behind only because of its trunk capacity, which is the lowest among the four SUVs.

The HR-V’s infotainment is more like a personal assistant for your car. It comes with several features that come standard, such as the 7-inch infotainment display and another 7-inch multi-information display that lets you customize your driving experience. For smartphone connectivity, wired Android Auto, wired Apple CarPlay, and Bluetooth are standard as well. The top-tier trim gets a bigger 9.0-inch touchscreen display, wireless connectivity features, and an 8-speaker audio system with an output of 180 watts.

Some of the standout interior features of the 2024 Honda HR-V are:

    • 7-inch digital instrument cluster
    • Dual zone climate control
    • Moonroof
    • Ambient interior lighting
    • 9-inch infotainment touchscreen (EX-L)
    • Wireless phone charger (EX-L)
    • HondaLink

    Exterior
    7.0/10

The HR-V isn’t just a pretty face with no curves; the SUV boasts sleek lines with slender LED headlights, and with the available 18-inch alloy, it more or less grabs attention wherever it goes. The side view on this vehicle comes with a smooth roofline that merges the roof and the side panels.

The front end of this car is all about showing its elegant look, with a honeycomb grille, a sloping body line, and angled headlights. Want to get a more fierce look? Then go for the Sports trim, and you will get 18-inch gloss black wheels, a chrome exhaust finisher, and a matte black bumper as well. Some other features of the HR-V are the roofline spoiler and power mirrors.

The 2024 HR-V is the largest among the four cars which translates to decent interior space. It is followed by the Subaru Crosstrek which is also big and has the most ground clearance among its rivals. The third place goes to the Mazda CX-30 which even though is much heavier than the other three cars manages to come at third place by beating the Kia Seltos which is in the last position but then again it is not at all a bad SUV but it just falls behind in terms of exterior dimensions.

Some of the 2024 Honda HR-V colors are:

    • Crystal Black Pearl
    • Lunar Silver Metallic
    • Milano Red
    • Modern Steel Metallic
    • Nordic Forest Pearl (+$455)
    • Platinum White Pearl (+$455)

    Safety
    7.0/10

The 2024 Honda HR-V is not just all about features and modern tech but also about safety. The NHTSA has given it a five-star safety rating via its crashworthiness tests. Even the IIHS has awarded it a 2023 Top Safety Pick+ award, pointing at its impeccable safety standard. Most of the Honda Sensing driver-assistance features are standard across the trim lineup, as are other active and passive safety features.

Some standout safety features of the 2024 HR-V include:

    • Collision Mitigating Braking System (CMBS)
    • Lane Departure Warning(LDW)
    • Adaptive Cruise Control(ACC)
    • Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS)
    • Traffic Sign Recognition System (TSR)

    Competition

    2024 Honda HR-V vs. 2024 Kia Seltos

The 2024 Honda HR-V and Kia Seltos are like two heavyweight boxers in the subcompact SUV ring. Both of these vehicles offer a range of features and capabilities. In terms of pricing, it is a very close call because both of the car brands have very aggressive pricing for these models.

Other than that, the HR-V is a bit wider than the Seltos, which sometimes makes parking an issue. The new-gen Kia Seltos boasts a better interior and unbeatable warranty coverage. But overall, the HR-V takes the win as it excels in a lot of the factors.

    2024 Honda HR-V vs. 2024 Subaru Crosstrek

The pricing of both these Japanese SUVs are very similar. Even the dimensions of these coun are not that different from one another but when it comes down to the features provided, the HR-V takes the clear win because of the sheer amount of features that Honda provides is impressive.

However, the new-gen Crosstrek 2024 features new design and boasts better performance than the HR-V. Even AWD is standard across all the trims. So, if you are in for rugged SUV then the Crosstrek must be your choice. However, HR-V offers better cargo space and overall comfort than the Crosstrek.

    2024 Honda HR-V vs. 2024 Mazda CX-30

Both Japanese SUVs are priced similarly, with the CX-30 being more expensive. When it comes to performance, the CX-30 is better. Both vehicles offer front-wheel-drive as standard, with all-wheel-drive as an option.

And overall, both SUVs are worth their price tags, but what makes the HR-V take the win are its safety features and other entertainment features. But the CX-30 is a worthy rival of the HR-V and offers a better interior as well.

    Final Verdict

The 2024 Honda HR-V is a well-balanced car in the subcompact SUV segment. It was redesigned for the 2023 model year and carries forward unchanged. The interior of this car is pretty decent and offers a good amount of space and cargo capacity. Even the fuel economy is decent, if not the best for its class. If you are willing to buy the new-gen HR-V, then opt for the 2023 model year, as it will save you about $300.
