2022 and 2023 with the 3cyl engine are having issues with fuel vapor seeping inside the vehicle to the point we were sick. Nissan and all the dealers are aware of this but continue to sell them even though there is no fix. It doesn't happen toRead More

... to dealer and again they can’t find anything. Say Nissan is aware but don’t have a fix. But the fix may be a new engine. Fill a complaint with Nissan for the $168 and requesting a vehicle buyback because of the safety issue of having your car reduce speed from 70 on the interstate to twenty with no warning. Nissan denies both claims. Tried to sell it back to the dealer and they said they weren’t interested. Filed a complaintRead More

The category of midsize crossover SUVs sees immense competition with all cars being offered with excellent value for money nature, a long list of convenience features, and modern technology. The 2022 Nissan Rogue is one such product that can completely blow your mind in terms of the value offered but one that has never impressed us in terms of reliability. With prices starting at an MSRP of $27,875, it is very much affordable to a large section of the population. While it competes against the most established cars of the segment including the Mazda CX-5, the Honda CR-V, and the Hyundai Tucson, everyday reliability comes into question. Let us see how the Nissan Rogue's reliability compares to others in the segment.

2022 Nissan Rogue User Complaints and Problems

It has not always been smooth sailing for the Nissan Rogue. While people have regarded it as a good product, problems like the Nissan Rogue front collision warning malfunction are common for the current generation. However, since this particular generation has been on sale only from 2021, we would only have data from one particular model year. The data for the 2022 model is not out yet and  this being the launch of a brand-new generation, the results don’t look promising as of now. Previous model years were also plagued by Nissan Rogue acceleration problems that have been contributed by a wide set of factors. With all this in mind, let us take a look at some of the customer complaints below.

Mechanical problems:

  • One owner stated that the car starts showing an engine malfunction warning and that the power is reduced. The performance of the vehicle becomes severely affected. Despite being taken to the dealership, the issue was never solved.
  • One owner has stated that the car gets stuck in first gear while driving. The owner has to manually shift to drive mode again and the car starts driving normally after this point. This is a common issue and has been reported by several owners.
  • Another owner has reported that the car pulls to the side of the road despite having done wheel alignments regularly in the first 2500 miles. The rear cross-traffic alert function also does not work properly and the tires seem to be defective as well.

Electrical system problems:

  • One owner reported an electrical fault that disabled the instrument panel, the doors and tailgate failing to open, the front and rearview cameras failing to display information, and so on. This seems like a serious electrical issue but no solution was found for the problem.

Safety problems:

  • One contact has reported that while the person added gas and locked the pump onto the gas door, it did not start filling due to an error in design. The gas leaked outside and since this could easily create a fire hazard, it is an issue that requires intervention.
  • One owner has reported that the Lane departure does not function as intended in the car. The Intelligent Lane Intervention as Nissan calls sometimes works counter-intuitively and steers toward danger. The driver of a car escaped a major accident.

Exterior problems:

  • One owner stated that the rear windshield exploded outward for no reason. Many owners have reported the same complaint and this seems to be the most common issue with this car. The manufacturer has not been able to take any action on the issue and owners still await at the dealership.
  • There is another owner who has reported that is similar thing happened to the car sunroof. The sunroof shattered and there was glass inside the car while the car was parked inside, under a shade.

Interior problems:

  • One owner has complained that while the ACs on, one vent blows hot air while the others are blowing cold air.
  • Another owner stated that the transmission drive selector is cheap and breaks off very easily. This made the car unable to be shifted back in to drive again.
  • One owner has complained that there are water leaks from the A-Pillar of the car from both sides. Several owners have reported the same issue.

Although the above list looks like there are a lot of complaints, they are all from the same model year which is 2021. The number of complaints adds up to a total of 38, which should worry future owners. Even though we understand that this is the launch year and the car will have to sort out its set of niggles, we also find that several complaints are common across owners and the company needs to take action on them. There were instances before with the number of 2008 Nissan Rogue problems exceeding a reasonable number but the manufacturer failed to take adequate action. Let us look at the recalls history of this car to find out how the manufacturer has responded.

2022 Nissan Rogue Recalls

We do understand that no car is exactly trouble-free and can carry its own set of issues but as long as the manufacturer has solutions in hand, it is definitely understandable. For Nissan, this is apparently too much to ask for because even though we have been reporting transmission issues from as far back as the 2009 Nissan Rogue transmission recall, the problems still keep appearing in different shapes and forms. But for some problems, they have been extremely active in fixing through recalls as we can see with the Nissan Rogue rear differential recall. We hope that future model years follow the latter example and turn out to be dependable cars. Let us take a look at the recalls of the 2021 model year Nissan Rogue below.

We can see that the manufacturer has issued a sufficient number of recalls over the 2021 model and tried to address some of the malfunctions. Still, many of the more pressing problems of this car have not been fixed and owners still have to hope for the manufacturer to come up with solutions for them. It is worrying that despite being updated for the 2021 model year, this car still has so many issues.

Which model year of the Nissan Rogue should you avoid?

The current generation of the Nissan Rogue has been in production since 2021 and has already recorded a large number of complaints. But it is not like the previous generation had a good reliability reputation for itself. It has had a history of very bad reliability over the years but the most unreliable one would have to be the 2018 model year. Customers of this particular year have seen a lot of problems, amounting to a total of 436 complaints which raises the question of reliability despite how good the car is. Even after being given so many years to rectify faults, the brand has been unsuccessful in doing so. Therefore, talking about model years to avoid, we would feel that every single model year is best left avoided.

Should you buy the 2022 Nissan Rogue?

The 2022 Nissan Rogue is carried forward from the car that was updated thoroughly for 2021. It has several strengths like being extremely good value for money, more luxurious than its competitors, and so on. However, reliability has never been one of its strengths and it does not look like it will be anytime soon. Because the category that sees a lot of good cars and ones with greater reliability reputations, the Nissan Rogue does not look very desirable. Hence, we would not recommend this car to you.
