Overview

One of the bulkiest looking cars in thecompact SUV segment, the Jeep Cherokee is made to conquer the mountains to showcase its rugged off-roading capabilities. Establishing the existence between the Grand Cherokee and the Jeep Wrangler, the 2023 Cherokee has come up with almost the same specs featured in its last year's generation. The last redesigned since 2014, this year Jeep is not in the mood to continue its base level trim, Altitude. Styles with one of the highest towing capacities of 4500 lbs, still carry that old-dated interior.

Buying Advice

With an average hike in price, this new 2023 Cherokee is expected to start with an introductory price of $ 36,490 for its base Latitude Lux variant. It might come in a Hybrid model if Jeep plans to fully redesign the 2023 Cherokee. It will be available in only four different trims starting from the Latitude Lux, last year announced the X, the offroad-oriented Trailhawk, and the supreme trim Limited. It will be competing with the renowned names of the segment like the Honda CR-V, the Mazda CX-5, and the Subaru Forester.

Features
7.0/10

This year Jeep has discontinued its Altitude model and it will be continuing with the rest four models ranging from the Latitude Lux, previous year announced the Cherokee X, off-road focused trim the Trailhawk, and the top variant Limited. All the models exercise with the standard 3.2L V6 whereas a more powerful 2.0L four-cylinder turbocharged engine is an option to choose from. Both the engines tie the knot with their 9-speed automatic transmission. Every Cherokee enters with a standard 8.4-inch infotainment touch screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, a heated steering wheel and heated front seats, and 17-inch alloys. If the pocket allows, opt for its higher variant to get an extra off-road-oriented suspension, and all-terrain tires tuned with an upgraded 4WD system.

Fuel Economy
6.2/10

Running on the powerful 3.2L V6 engine, obviously brings in low fuel economy figures when compared to the rivals of the segment. It manages 19 mpg in the city, and 27mpg on the highway, resulting in 22 mpg combined. Jeep gives 15.8 gallons of the fuel tank in the Cherokee, which ensures 300.2 mpg of range in the city, 426.6 mpg on the highway, and 347.6 mpg of combined range. With the FWD, the optional 2.0L engines achieve,23mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway. Whereas with a 4WD drivetrain, it manages 21 mpg in the city and 29 on the highway.

The 2023 CR-V jumps ahead of any other competitors in terms of fuel economy. With the lower curb weight, the CR-V provides 28 mpg in the city, 34 mpg on the highway, and 30 mpg as combined mileage. Whereas when it is a matter of best range providing vehicle, 2023 Forester steers very fast and blows out the figures like 431.6 mpg in the city, 547.8 mpg on the highway, and 481.4 as combined. All credit goes to its huge fuel capacity and second lightest vehicle after Honda CR-V. 2023 Jeep Cherokee is the worst fuel-efficient vehicle among the four rivals.

Interior
7.0/10

The 2023 Cherokee promises to do a good job in softening the drive experience, but somewhere it lacks in providing the best comfort in the class. Jeep provides comfortable leather seats endured with heated functions even in the base model. It elevates with the various trim levels. Cherokee’s cabin is comfortable and roomy enough. Looking at its size from the outside, it seems more spacious, but in many aspects, it remains behind than Ford Escape and Honda CR-V especially when you have to use the cargo area of the car. Latitude Lux and the Cherokee X feature an 8.4-inch infotainment touch screen and a 6-speaker sound system.

Cherokee offers a total passenger capacity of 128 cubic feet. It provides 39.4, 41.1, and 57.6 inches of room for the head, leg, and shoulder respectively in the first row. Second-row passengers may feel a little confined due to the comparatively less room.

The Limited variant of the Cherokee is equipped with 9 speakers premium sound system, adaptive cruise control, driver seat memory function, panoramic sunroof, automated parking system, and many more features that do not let you feel disheartened. It is a vehicle carrying 5 passengers.

In the class, all cars seat 5 however the Subaru Forester is seen having the most seating space in both rows, followed by the Honda CR-V. The Cherokee and the CX-5 are somewhat head to head in this class. Cargo storage capacity is not known for all in the class, however, the Subaru, with its nearly 70 cubic inches of storage, will give the others a tough competition. The CX-5 does have more storage than the Forester when all the seats are upright though.

Some of the key features that garnish the 2023 Jeep Cherokee’s interior include-

  • Manual tilt and telescoping steering wheel
  • 6-way adjustable driver seats
  • heated front row seats
  • Front cupholder
  • Rear cup holder
  • Manual air conditioning
  • 8.4-inch infotainment screen
  • Illuminated glove box
  • Full carpet floor covering
  • First-row power windows
  • Adaptive cruise control in higher variant
  • 9 speaker sound system in top trim
  • Automated parking system
  • Driver and passenger airbags

How intuitive is the 2023 Jeep Cherokee’s infotainment system?

In the Cherokee, Jeep delivers a standard 8.4-inch infotainment touch screen that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The touchscreen menu is quite user-friendly and easy to use and it facilitates straightforward functioning and commands. Passengers or drivers use voice commands for basic instructions like making calls. To enhance the experience, Jeep offers a subscription-based Wifi hotspot service inside the car. As the trim level rises, from Latitude Lux every variant gets an extra 2 USB ports for the rear seat passengers.

On the higher variant, you are proposed with a 9-speaker premium sound system, instead of the standard 6 speakers of the base variants. However, in the Elite package, you have the choice to upgrade to an Integrated navigation system.

These notable features of the infotainment system enhance the experience-

  • 6 speakers
  • 1 LCD monitor in the front
  • Streaming audio
  • 8.4-inch infotainment
  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity
  • 12-volt power outlet
  • Active noise control system

Exterior
5.0/10

In terms of exterior and design, Cherokee is no longer updated. It carries the same appearance of a boxy look but slightly curvy edges. It is expected that it will carry advanced tech features. All the Cherokee models are structured on the same 107.1-inch long wheelbase. Cherokee is 182.9 inches long and 74.9 inches wide. It is 67.8 inches high from the ground. These proportions help the vehicle strengthen the same offroading features with added extra sporty suspensions on the higher trims. All the variants come standard with 18-inch alloys, but on the Limited version, you get 19-inch alloys as an option to upgrade. Cherokee weighs 3710 lbs. The maximum towing capacity of 2000 pounds is standard.

Competition

2023 Jeep Cherokee vs 2023 Honda CR-V

Proportionally almost the same, but if shoppers can sacrifice more fuel for a sounder off-roading experience then Jeep Cherokee is good choice to look upon. But the enthusiasts want a fuel-friendly car with a decent range, Honda CR-V is a favorable deal. 2023 Jeep Cherokee is built on a longer wheelbase than the new CR-V. It runs with greater curb weights, but CR-V offers a better spacious and roomy interior for both the front and rear passengers. With almost $ 10,500 less price, Honda CR-V is a great-to-go vehicle unless you want to do proper offroading and use the towing capacity.

2023 Jeep Cherokee vs. 2023 Mazda CX-5

Slightly heavier than Cherokee, the new CX-5 is lesser in most of the proportions. Mazda offers a little smaller wheelbase but its engine is capable of giving you a good fuel economy and range than the Cherokee. It offers a small fuel capacity than Cherokee. Both the vehicles are roomy enough toke you feel pleased. Running at a higher top speed and with the larger brake rotors, Cherokee is able to bring the car to a standstill faster than CX-5. Except for the fuel -economy, the 2023 Jeep Cherokee fulfills the various need but perpetually it does not justify a $ 10,600 hike in price over the CX-5

2023 Jeep Cherokee vs. 2023 Subaru Forester

With almost a $ 10,300 cheaper, the 2023 Subaru is a fantabulous choice offering better fuel efficiency, best in segment roomy interior with a slightly less wide body. With a larger wheelbase and greater curb weight Cherokee competes Forester with the potent top speed. Forester is a vehicle to do comfortable driving experiences whereas the Cherokee markets itself as an adventurous and off-roading vehicle. Both offer a good experience depending on the priority of the shopper.

Final Verdict

CARHP definitely suggests you buy this vehicle if you are a huge fan of doing adventurous things with your vehicle and driving it on various terrain. It is expected to come with an obviously hike in price. Instead of catching the base variant, it is suggestible to go for its higher variants like Traulhawk or the Limited, where not only you do get various extra features and suspensions as standard but also it increases the fun and driving experience.
