Overview

The 2021 Toyota Camry comes with minor changes to the entire trim lineup. Toyota has made subtle changes to the exterior and interior styling along with new paint colors and wheel designs. The base L trim is discontinued, while the driver-assistance features have been updated. A larger 9-inch infotainment display is available as well.A fuel-effcient hybrid powertrain is now available with the 2021 Toyota Camry XSE trim as well. The 2021 Toyota Camry price starts at $25,045 and an additional $1,020 destination fee is levied. The Camry 2021 AWD trims cost $1,400 more than the FWD trims.

Featuring a 6-trim lineup of LE, SE, SE Nightshade Edition, XLE, XSE and TRD, the 2021 Toyota Camry MSRP can be an expense of $25,045-$32,260 this season. Having said that, it simply translates to the fact that the range-leader Camry TRD 2021 will cost you $7,215 more than the base LE for enhanced specs and assets.

We Recommend

The 2021 Toyota Camry XLE is priced at an msrp of $30,970 and makes the most sense to us. Although slightly expensive and $2,315 cheaper than the sporty TRD trim, the list of features and specifications on offer are very desirable.

The Toyota Camry 2021 offers three different powertrain options, depending on the trim configurations. The 2021 Camry LE and SE models are equipped with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, offering 203 horsepower. The XLE and XSE trims can be equipped with a 3.5-liter V-6 engine, offering 301 hp. The 2021 Toyota Camry mpg of 32 mpg (combined) is impressive, while the V-6 engine is not frugal at 26 mpg. The Toyota Camry hybrid and TRD trims are covered in a separate review. The 2021 Toyota Camry interior is decent and offers a cargo capacity of 15.1 cubic feet. Toyota's midsize sedan offers more power than the Honda Accord, better rear seat legroom than the Nissan Altima and quicker 0-60 time than the Hyundai Sonata

2021 Toyota Camry for sale

The 2021 Toyota Camry LE can be leased at $409/month for 42 months considering an annual drive of 10,000 miles with $3,198 due at signing and $999 down payment.

For budget-oriented buyers, the used 2021 Toyota Camry can be availed of with a base price of $11,950. Going for older model years like the 2020 Camry could be a matter of $11,950 and Toyota Camry 2019 can cost as much as $9,950 along with a listing of up to 23,754 in total.

Buying Advice

As we already mentioned in the cons section that the base engine of the Camry is weak in terms of performance. So we suggest you go for the XLE with the V6 engine. This trim costs around $35,000 and gets a host of features over the base trim on which it is based. There is a ten grand price gap between the base LE and XLE trim but for the premium, you get a more powerful engine, bigger wheels, 7-inch driver’s display, 9-inch touchscreen infotainment, better interior, all-LED exterior lights, etc. Thus these additions justify the premium by all means.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

Thanks to strong fuel economy, a comfortable interior and good value, the Toyota Camry is one of our higher-ranked midsize sedans- Edmunds

The Toyota Camry is one of the prominent names in the midsize sedan segment. The 2021 Camry aims to take the legacy forward and offers enhanced driver-assistance system and refreshed styling. The J.D. Power Consumer Rating score of 83/100 can be considered as ‘Great’ and Camry proves its reliability once again with a score of 84/100 in quality and reliability. With zero recalls and 29 complaints, the 2021 Toyota Camry problems are not much to worry about.

The NHTSA has given the Camry 2021 a 5 star safety rating. The estimated “Cost-to-Own” 2021 Camry for a five-year ownership period can be mainly classified into depreciation, fuel charges, insurance, maintenance and repairs. Features
7.0/10

The Toyota Camry has gone from a fantastic family sedan to anonymous four-door and now back to its former glory- Car and Driver

The 2021 Toyota Camry features are desirable from the base LE trim itself. Toyota offers multiple features like Bi-LED combination headlights with auto on/off feature, 17-inch alloy wheels, remote keyless entry system, 4.2-inch MID, and 7.0-inch central touchscreen with major connectivity options are standard. The 2021 Toyota Camry SE trim adds black exterior elements with LED taillights, 18-inch alloy wheels, rear spoiler, chrome tip exhaust, Sport SofTex trimmed upholstery, and leather-wrapped steering wheel.

The Camry Nightshade Edition trim, adds to a stealthy look, with its exclusive features such as 18-inch wheels, and a trunk-mounted spoiler. Fuel Economy
6.0/10

The whole Camry lineup performed extremely well in the EPA's tests, and a four-cylinder model did brilliantly in our real-world highway testing- Car and Driver

The Toyota Camry 2021 gas mileage varies depending on the selected powertrain option. The best fuel efficiency figures that the inline-4 delivers are in the base Camry LE trim as it delivers 28 MPG in the city, 39 MPG on the highway, and 32 MPG combined. For the V6-powered trim, the Camry XLE V6 trim remains the most frugal and offers a fuel economy of 22 MPG in the city, 33 MPG on the highway, and 26 MPG combined. For the fuel tank capacity, it is simple, the FWD models get a 15.8-gallon fuel tank while the AWD models get a 14.4-gallon fuel tank.

The Toyota Camry remains the most frugal sedan among the mid-size sedans with a 2.5-liter inline-4 engine under its hood. The Honda Accord, courtesy of its smaller turbocharged engine, manages to better the Camry’s EPA estimated gas mileage by 2 MPG in the city and 1 MPG combined. The Camry still managed to better the Accord’s highway gas mileage by 1 MPG. That said, in this comparison, the Altima offers a similar gas mileage as the Camry but comes with the largest fuel tank capacity of 16.2-gallons.

Interior
7.0/10

The Camry is a large sedan, and there's plenty of cargo space and interior storage in both its trunk and in its cabin with the rear seat folded- Car and Driver

The 2021 Toyota Camry interior is nothing grandeur or opulent of the sort but everything is well-put and ergonomically placed. The cabin quality just like the fuel economy figures varies a lot across the trim level. Step inside the cabin of base models and you will see evidence of cost-cutting in terms of budget-grade material used all around while climbing up the trim ladder takes care of that with soft-touch and high-quality materials used around the cabin. The modern and funky interior of the Camry boasts seating for five with generous rear-seat space and good visibility, The ingress, and egress of the car are also pretty easy.

Although the front seats aren’t the most spacious in the segment they do offer a good amount of comfort and are accommodative to all body sizes. Though we did find the back support a bit lacking in front row seats. The driver’s seat gets power adjustment and the base trim gets fabric-trimmed seats. From SE trim you get SofTex leatherette upholstery while the topmost XSE trim comes with full leather upholstery. The 2021 Camry interior upholstery color options include Black, Ash, Macadamia and Cockpit Red, depending on the trim configurations The 2021 Camry trunk space is limited to 15.1 cubic feet with rear seatbacks up.

The Toyota Camry has a well-designed and spacious cabin that ensures both the front and rear passengers get a decent amount of space. Simply put among all the sedans here the Honda Accord has the most spacious and logically arranged cabin among all. As for the cargo space again the Honda Accord has the biggest trunk of 16.7 cubic feet capacity while the Toyota Camry comes with the smallest trunk capacity of 15.1 cubic feet, about 1.6 cubic feet less than the Honda Accord. The Honda Accord is followed by Hyundai Sonata and Nissan Altima in terms of trunk volume.

The Toyota Camry comes with two touchscreen options for this year. The standard one is a 7-inch touchscreen unit while the optional 9-inch touchscreen unit is standard on higher trim and in case it is not then the same can be availed through the Audio Upgrade or the Navigation Upgrade Package. Whatever be the screen size the infotainment system of the Camry runs on Toyota’s Entune 3.0. One of the many things that Toyota got right with this year’s Camry includes the infotainment system too. The setup is very responsive and easy to use. The display screen is bright and sharp which responds well to the touch inputs. Standard features available include Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, SiriusXM with a 3-month all-access trial, connected services, etc.

Some of the key highlights of the 2021 Toyota Camry interior include:

  • 8-way power-adjustable driver’s seat
  • 4.2-inch Multi-Information Display
  • Remote keyless entry
  • Dual-zone automatic climate control (available)
  • Heated front seats (available)
  • Leather-trimmed seats (available)
  • Android Auto and Apple CarPlay
  • 7-inch touchscreen display

Exterior
7.0/10

Outside, exterior updates are minor. For 2021, Toyota distinguishes the sport-oriented SE and XSE models from the lower LE and XLE trims with a bolder, redesigned lower bumper and honeycomb-style grille, as well as side vent inserts and accents- Cars.com

The 2021 Camry is the sharpest and the boldest looking Toyota sedan to date. The 2021 Camry except for minor changes remains the same for this year. The changes are barely noticeable until you keep the new and the old Camry side-by-side and compare. That said, the front profile is dominated by the massive split grille with the large side air intakes. The headlights are sleek and sharp with a Bi-LED set up on the base trim and an all-LED headlight on higher trims. The side profile is sans any drama and has a neat look with a straight beltline that runs straight through the door handles and merges into the rear quarter panel.

Irrespective of the trim you chose you to get an alloy wheel. The base comes with 17-inches while the higher trims get 18- and 19-inch wheels. Dimension wise all the sedans taken in this comparison are in the same ballpark with a difference of not even one complete inch. The 2021 Toyota Camry exterior color options include Midnight Black Metallic, Blueprint, Galactic Aqua Mica, Ruby Flare Pearl, Supersonic Red, Predawn Gray Mica, Celestial Silver Metallic, Wind Chill Pearl and Super White.

The 2021 Toyota Camry dimensions are very much in-line with the segment. The Toyota Camry's curb weight is more than the rivals but its length, height and width are less than the competition. However, the difference is not that significant. The 2021 Toyota Camry ground clearance of 5.7 inches is more appreciated than the rivals. The difference in the wheelbases is about 0.2-0.6 iinches when compared with the Toyota Camry.

Safety

The 2021 Camry and Camry Hybrid get minor cosmetic updates, new multimedia screens and the next generation of Toyota’s safety system- Cars.com

The 2021 Toyota Camry safety ratings point at its high standards of safety. The 2021 Toyota Camry underpins the latest high-strength TNGA-K platform from Toyota. The platform has received lots of praises and accolades for it helped the Camry bag five out of five stars overall rating from NHTSA. Not only this in all other crash tests and even the rollover test of NHTSA the 2021 Toyota Camry managed a perfect score. The IIHS ratings are also in the same line with the Camry getting the ‘Good’ rating in all its six parameters and a ‘Good+’ rating in the ease of use of LATCH. On the flip side, the headlights of the 2021 Camry could only get the second-best rating of ‘Acceptable’. Yet the Camry managed to bag the ‘Top Safety Pick+’ award in the mid-size sedan category from IIHS.

Some of the key highlights of the Toyota Camry 2021 safety features include:

  • Lane-departure warning
  • Pre-collision warning
  • Brake assist
  • Rearview camera

2021 Toyota Camry Vs 2021 Honda Accord

The Honda Accord in a true sense is the only real competitor of the Camry. In Accord’s favor are its better performance, spacious cabin, and shorter braking distance. While for the Camry, has better ride quality, better mileage, especially in the city, and has more standard safety features. Although the Accord is more fun-to-drive than the Camry, the Camry remains more comfortable between the two. So based on these differences you can pick either of them as per your taste and preferences.

2021 Toyota Camry Vs 2021 Nissan Altima

The Nissan Altima has lately undergone a lot of improvement and has reached a level where it is more or less similar to the Camry whether it be the pros or the cons. Both the sedans deliver excellent gas mileage, both the sedans are hardly interesting to drive, and both the sedans pack in a comfortable and spacious cabin. Thus the Nissan Altima could be a good choice if you want to skip the herd mentality here.

2021 Toyota Camry Vs 2021 Hyundai Sonata

The Hyundai Sonata is one of the modern and more affordable package as compared to the Toyota Camry. Despite being more powerful, the Toyota Camry is more fuel efficient than the Hyundai Sonata and offers better driving range as well. The Hyundai Sonata offers 0.9 cubic feet of more cargo space than the Toyota Camry but lacks adequate rear seat legroom. Even the ground clearance of the Hyundai Sonata is 0.4 inches less than the Toyota Camry.

Final Verdict
8.0/10

There is no point arguing why the Toyota Camry is one of the best midsize sedans in the States. It has everything sorted, is reliable, has good resale value, and the parts and upkeep cost is also low. There is hardly any nitpick against the Camry except for the smaller trunk space. The performance issue is well taken care of by the bigger V6 so we won’t rant about it. Thus to conclude if you are looking for a safe ride that won’t burn a hole in your pocket to upkeep and maintain, we suggest getting the Camry without a second thought.
