Overview

The 2020 Toyota Camry belongs to the eighth generation Camry introduced in 2018. For the 2020 model year, Toyota has introduced all wheel drive for all models. Also, Android Auto is now standard across all the trim configurations. The biggest change has to be the introduction of 2020 Toyota Camry TRD trim with retuned suspension setup, aerodynamic kit and race-tuned dynamics. The Camry TRD interior flaunts a bounty of red color for added sportiness. The 2020 Toyota Camry price starts at $24,425 and an additional $995 is levied as destination fee.

Featuring a 6-trim lineup of L, LE, SE, XLE, XSE and TRD, the 2020 Toyota Camry MSRP can be an expense of $24,425-$31,170 this season. Having said that, it simply translates to the fact that the range-leader 2020 Toyota Camry TRD V6 will cost you $6,575 more than the base Camry L for enhanced specs and assets.

We Recommend

Considering the list of features, specifications and an msrp of $27,165, the 2020 Toyota Camry SE makes the most sense to us and is quite suitable for daily commuting needs.

A 2.5-liter engine with 203 horsepower is standard, while a more powerful V6 engine with 301 hp is available with the XLE and XSE trims. The all-new TRD trim gets it as standard. The 2020 Toyota Camry mpg of up to 34 mpg (combined) is impressive. The trunk space in Toyota Camry is limited to 15.1 cubic feet (14.1 cubic feet with the L trim), while the interior is ergonomic. The 2020 Toyota Camry Hybrid offers an impressive gas mileage of 52 mpg (combined). The Camry 2020 offers more output than the Hyundai Sonata, better fuel economy than the Ford Fusion and better rear seat legroom than the Kia Optima.

2020 Toyota Camry for sale

The 2020 Toyota Camry L can be leased for a term of 36 months with $351/month and $2,542 due at signing along with an annual mileage limit of 10,000 miles. The same model can be financed for a term of 48 months for as low as 3.49% APR with $540/month and $2,542 down payment. The final APR can be lower or higher depending on the credit score profile of the customer and additional offers.

For budget-oriented buyers, the used 2020 Toyota Camry can be availed of with a base price of $11,950. Going for older model years like the 2019 Toyota Camry could be a matter of $9,950 and Toyota Camry 2018 can cost as much as $12,000 along with a listing of up to 23,754 in total.

Buying Advice

The SE seems like the best choice for it offers a good mix of technology and features, especially considering it costs a bit over $1500 over the base trim. If you’re looking for performance, the XLE offers an optional V6 engine and is the cheapest of the high-end trims that offer the said powertrain.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

The 2020 Toyota Camry provides the basic qualities you expect from this popular sedan: a roomy cabin, plenty of trunk space, a comfortable ride and high crash test safety scores- Edmunds

The Toyota Camry is one of the longest running sedan nameplates in the United States. With superior reliability, practicality and fuel economy, the Camry won the hearts of many first time car buyers. Even the 2018 Toyota Camry attempts to continue the legacy with an overall score of 81/100 from the J.D. Power Consumer Rating. For quality and reliability it scored 82/100 and it can be considered as ‘Great’. With two recalls and 97 complaints, the 2020 Toyota Camry problems are not exactly worrisome.

The 2020 Toyota Camry safety rating of 5-star from the NHTSA is great. The estimated “Cost-to-Own” 2020 Camry for a five-year ownership period can be mainly classified into depreciation, fuel charges, insurance, maintenance and repairs. The estimated costs of each factor for the base 2020 Toyota Camry L are $13,381, $12,854, $7,034, $4,857 and $1,684 respectively. The ownership costs also include factors like taxes and financing. Also, the “Cost-to-Own” will vary as per trim configurations

Buying Advice

The SE Trim at $26,170 seems like the best choice, for it offers a good mix of technology and features, especially considering it costs a bit over $1500 over the base trim. The mid-level 2020 Toyota Camry SE should satisfy most shoppers as it brings a decent value to the mix. It includes comfort features such as a multifunction steering wheel with leather upholstery and various interior elements in leather. Furthermore, the wheels get bumped up to 18-inch alloy wheels. All-wheel-drive is a $1,400 option. If you're looking for performance, the XLE offers an optional V6 engine and is the cheapest of the high-end trims that offer the said powertrain, at $29,455.

Fuel Economy
7.1/10

The whole Camry lineup performed extremely well in the EPA's tests, and a four-cylinder model did brilliantly in our real-world highway testing. - Car and Driver

The Toyota Camry 2020 mileage with a four-cylinder engine returns EPA estimated 28 MPG in the city, 39 MPG on the highway, and 32 MPG combined. Moving up to the LE trim, the highway figures drop to 38 MPG. The V6-powered XSE and XLE get 22 MPG in the city, and 33 MPG on the highway. The Toyota Camry offers one of the most frugal powertrains in the class. The 2020 Toyota Camry gas tank size of 14.5 gallons is reserved for the base L trim. The other trims get a larger 15.8 gallon fuel tank for enhanced driving range.

The Toyota Camry's fuel tank capacity also varies with the configuration you choose. However, the Toyota Camry is the most fuel efficient sedan and even with the smaller gas tank size it offers very good driving range. It is followed by the Hyundai Sonata in terms of combined fuel economy with just 1 mpg less and driving range as well. The Kia Optima with its larger fuel tank offers the maximum driving range in the comparison despite delivering 3 mpg less than the Camry. The Ford Fusion is the least fuel efficient and offers 6 mpg less than the Toyota Camry.

Interior
7.1/10

The driver's seat will satisfy a truly broad range of sizes and shapes, and the cabin is spacious. - Edmunds

The 2020 Toyota Camry interior is known for its comfortable and roomy nature. The dashboard design reflects Lexus's inspiration, with sharp angles and rounded curves comprising the instrument cluster, and center control surround. The sedan seats 5 passengers on cloth-stitched or leather-wrapped seats offering ample headroom and legroom. The 2021 Camry interior upholstery color options include Black, Ash, Macadamia and Cockpit Red, depending on the trim configurations. The front seats are nicely bolstered which provides good support without pinching larger-framed occupants.

Inside the 2020 Camry’s cabin is a good mix of style, material quality, technology, and functionality. Visibility around the cabin is good, and the materials used and finishing touches have a rather upscale and soft feeling unlike some of its rivals. A 6-way/8-way adjustable driver’s seat ensures solace if you’re behind the wheels and 60/40 folding rear seats assure you of a tad more space than the available cargo space. Entering and getting out of the vehicle is easily done due to the large doors of the sedan. The trunk space in the Toyota Camry is limited to 14.1 cu-ft in the base L trim, while the remaining trims offer 15.1 cu-ft of cargo volume.

The Ford Fusion can be considered as the most practical sedan with a fine balance between rear seat legroom and trunk space. The Toyota Camry offers 2.2 cu-ft and1.9 cu-ft less cargo space than the Hyundai Sonata and Ford Fusion. The Ford Fusion offers 0.3 inches more rear seat leg space than the Toyota Camry. The Ford Fusion and Hyundai Sonata might feel cramped in that regard.

Floating in the middle of the dash is a 7” infotainment system with smartphone integration including Apple Carplay and Android Auto. The standard infotainment system also features a six-speaker stereo, Siri Eyes Free, satellite radio, a Wi-Fi hot spot, a USB port, and Bluetooth. You can upgrade to the available 8-inch touch screen, which also adds two more USB ports, HD Radio, and a nine-speaker JBL audio system. Albeit you’d find the system fairly simple and easy to use, the rivals in the segment have better integration of the system as well as seemingly intuitive.

Some of the key interior features of the 2020 Toyota Camry are:

  • 8-way power-adjustable driver’s seat
  • 4.2-inch Multi-Information Display
  • Remote keyless entry
  • Dual-zone automatic climate control (available)
  • Heated front seats (available)
  • Leather-trimmed seats (available)
  • Android Auto and Apple CarPlay
  • 7-inch touchscreen display

Exterior
7.1/10

The 2020 Toyota Camry is, dare we say it, stylish. - The Car Connection

The current 2020 Toyota Camry exterior design makes it one of the best-looking sedans with sporty styling with a wide front grille and sculpted aluminum hood. Toyota surprisingly equips the Camry with exterior design elements such as the four chrome-tipped exhaust pipes on the XSE. The Nightshade edition appearance package adds to the sedan’s dramatic styling with dark trim and wheels, as well as black badges and emblems. At 5.7” from the ground, at first sight, you’d see the wide and front-grille and the athleticism of the sleek design of the sedan with 16” steel wheels on four corners spinning the sedan down the tarmac.

The wheel sizes vary from 16-inch to 19-inch, depending on the trim configurations. Bordered by the Bi-LED headlights on either side, the design takes over the giant-cat-clawed character lines on the hood. A bulbous windshield erupts atop the car, chiseling out a shark fin antenna along the tapering roofline down the slightly elevated rear. The sedan signs off with the well-proportioned and sleek rear design, fitted with a single exhaust pipe on the right lip. The 2020 Toyota Camry exterior colors like Midnight Black Metallic, Blue Streak Metallic, Galactic Aqua Mica, Ruby Flare Pearl, Supersonic Red, Brownstone, Predawn Gray Mica, Celestial Silver Metallic, Wind Chill Pearl and Super White make it stand out.

The 2020 Toyota Camry is longer than the competition, while its curb weight is in the middle of the comparison. Even the ground clearanace is pretty decent for the segment and beats the Ford Fusion by 0.4 inches. The Ford Fusion sits on a longer wheelbase, leading by 0.9 inches against the Camry. The Kia Optima and Hyundai Sonata share their chassis and have a shorter wheelbase than the Toyota Camry. However, both the cars are slightly wider than the Toyota Camry.

Some of the standard features included in the exterior of the 2020 Camry are:

  • Bi-LED combination headlights with auto on/off feature
  • LED Daytime Running Lights (DRL) with on/off feature
  • 16” steel wheels
  • Body-colored door handles
  • Body-colored front and rear bumpers

Safety
9.0/10

We continue to applaud Toyota's decision to make driver-assistance technology standard across its lineup. - Car and Driver

The 2020 Toyota Camry scores just like its predecessor, earning the highest five-star overall safety score in the NHTSA crash test, and has been designated a "Top Safety Pick" by the IIHS. Toyota equips the Camry with a long list of driver assistance as a part of the Toyota Safety Sense-P suite. This package includes lane departure warning, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, forward automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, and automatic high-beam headlights. Ever since it has been ahead in the competition for the safety aspect.

Some of the key safety features of the 2020 Toyota Camry are:

  • Hill Start Assist Control
  • Integrated backup camera30 with projected path
  • adaptive cruise control
  • lane departure alert with steering assistance
  • automatic high beams
  • 4-Wheel Disc Brakes
  • Forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking

2020 Toyota Camry vs 2020 Hyundai Sonata

The 2020 Hyundai Sonata has a lower power output but is faster in the 0-60 and quarter-mile clocking times. In terms of fuel efficiency, it is the Toyota Camry that outperforms all the competitors. The interiors of both cars are equally plush and feature-fitted. We would recommend the 2020 Camry even in spite of the higher asking price, as it is completely worth the fuel efficiency and reliability of Toyota.

2020 Toyota Camry vs 2020 Kia Optima

The 2020 Kia Optima offers a fine interior, is feature-packed, and is extremely comfortable. However, the Camry is way more fuel-efficient and power-packed. Again, just like the Hyundai Sonata, even its sister brand, the Kia Optima 2020 has more speed to its name even though the Toyota Camry has more power. Considering the spectacular reliability of Toyota and their value for money offering, we would recommend the 2020 Camry.

2020 Toyota Camry vs 2020 Ford Fusion

The Ford Fusion is a very practical car with respect to better legroom and cargo space than the Toyota Camry. However, in most other factors like fuel economy, reliability, features and specifications, the 2020 Toyota Camry is a better option. The Ford Fusion is bound to be discontinued soon, while the Toyota Camry will continue to remain in production for years to come. Even the resale value of the Camry 2020 is better than the Ford Fusion. It's a no brainer for us and we would pick the Toyota Camry over the Ford Fusion.

Final Verdict
8.2/10

One of the finest compact sedans in the market, the 2020 Toyota Camry delivers on all fronts. It’s got a quirky design, a composed and comfortable ride quality, plush seating, and quality interior, along with great performing engines, and thrifty fuel efficiency. Complementing the list is the crash-test record that deems it a reliable sedan. Sure it has got a strong contender in its rivals, but the midsize sedan in itself is a great buy.
