Overview

The new 2023 Mazda 3 is a carryover version except for a few minor changes which include the exclusion of the base 2-liter four-cylinder engine. The 2.5-liter powertrain is now standard and features cylinder deactivation for better efficiency. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are now standard while the 2023 Mazda 3 Carbon Edition model is now available with the AWD drivetrain. Check out the video by "Realistick" for a real-world look at the Mazda 3

The Mazda 3 2023 price starts at $22,550 excluding the $1,065 destination charge and sees a price hike of $1,400 over the previous 2022 model year. The Mazda 3 2023 is offered in two body styles, hatchback, and sedan, with the Mazda 3 hatchback 2023 offering a larger cargo capacity. The 3 sedan manages to do the 0-60 MPH sprint in roughly 8 seconds which makes it one of the fastest Mazda cars you can buy in 2023.

The 2023 Mazda 3 interior feels premium with an 8.8-inch touchscreen display infotainment system paired with a Bose audio system. The trunk space is pretty decent and it has a sporty and eye-catching exterior styling. Mazda also offers utmost safety to the occupants and has secured reputable scores in testing conducted by the IIHS and the NHTSA. At this price point, it competes against more popular compact sedans like the crowd-favorite Honda Civic, the affordable Hyundai Elantra, the reliability king Toyota Corolla, and the practical Volkswagen Jetta

Buying Advice

The middle-of-the-pack 2023 Mazda 3 Carbon Edition is the one to go for. It packs in more features, gets unique styling, and yet keeps the price in check. Priced at $28,600, the trim offers both drivetrain options and an abundance of features. The car has dual interior options and an impressive exterior profile with its 18-inch all-season alloy wheels.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

The 2023 Mazda 3 is available for sale across all dealerships after its August 2022 release date. The strong performance and premium cabin with sporty styling remains its biggest selling point. It scores a reliability rating of 79/100 from J.D. Power which falls behind other competitors like the Kia Forte or the Subaru Impreza. Mazda also does not offer any complimentary maintenance package and all cars are covered under a basic 3-year/36,000-mile warranty package.

Expect the 5-year cost of ownership to be around $33,700 which is also slightly higher than the segment standards. The Mazda 3 finance options start at $387/month at 3.9% APR for 60 months while the lease deals begin at $337/month for a 36-month tenure with an annual mileage limit of 10,000 miles. While there is a $2,499 down payment for both offers, there is no additional fee for the lease option.

7.0/10

The 2023 Mazda 3 fuel economy ratings depend on your engine and drivetrain choice. The most economical among the options is the naturally aspirated 2.5L Inline-4 engine with FWD that offers 28 MPG in the city and 37 MPG on the highway. The more powerful turbocharged 2.5L Inline 4 powertrain with AWD on upper trims gets an MPG rating of 25 MPG city and 33 MPG highway. The Mazda 3 2023 models offer the least impressive fuel economy figures in the segment owing to its sporty nature. The Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla lead in this aspect in both the city and highway economy. The fuel capacity of the tank of the 2022 Mazda 3 is the same as the Corolla and the Jetta, but larger than the Civic. However, the range of the Mazda 3 sedan is disappointing at 476 miles on a highway as compared to the Corolla, the Jetta, and the Civic. The range in the city is better than the Volkswagen Jetta.

Interior
8.0/10

There is plenty of utility space to offer with the storage compartments, seatback pocket, glove compartment and bottle/cup holders. The interior color tone is offered in 3 options namely Black Leatherette, Greige Leatherette, and Red Leather. The Mazda 3 trunk space is marginally smaller than its rivals at 13.2 cu-ft.

Exterior
9.0/10

The Mazda 3 sedan got a full redesign in its 2019 edition and it continues with very few changes since then. The 2023 Mazda 3 still looks sporty and stylish. The car’s headlights and taillights look analogous and carry a slim design. The rear profile of the car looks carries a neutral profile, unlike the aggressive front.

              Frequently Asked Questions

Is Mazda 3 a luxury car?
No! The 2023 Mazda 3 is not a luxury car by any means. That said, the upscale interior materials, the feature-loaded trims, and the sporty engine options give a premium vibe to the affordable car.
              Is the Mazda 3 a long-lasting car?
While most Mazda cars are known to be pretty reliable, the Mazda3 sedan that was first launched almost 20 years ago can still be seen on roads today. Also, it's not unusual to see a Mazda 3 to cover 200,000-250,000 miles which makes it a pretty reliable car in the long run.
Is the Mazda3 sedan a good car?
With a premium design and build quality that comes complemented by a host of technology and driver safety aids, the Mazda 3 sedan offers great value to its buyers. The AWD drivetrain option and a strong powertrain make it a great choice as a compact car.
Do Mazda 3 hold their value?
While the average rate of depreciation for cars in the US is around 8% per year, the Mazda3 depreciates about 48% in the first 5 years of its ownership. So despite its low cost and high-value nature, the Mazda 3 does not hold as much value as its rivals
