Overview

Initially introduced in 1995 and redesigned for its fifth generation in 2021, the Chevrolet Tahoe is an enticing option in a controlled market. Over its time in the segment, the American proposition has enjoyed a dominant position. Credit its success to its capacious cabin or its immense utility, either way, the SUV justifies the price tag it carries. It features two potent V8 engine options and is a delight to drive on any road surface, without being restricted by its dimensions. The fullsize SUV even looks the part with its executive design and even in its stance, it looks bulky and exudes confidence. Though it is slightly expensive, Chevrolet ensures that material quality and feature list do not fall short of the segment standards.

Buying Advice

For us, the 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe LT trim provides the right balance between practicality and performance. Its specification set seems convenient and luxurious and at just over $60,000 it provides ample value. Though the higher trims do provide the option to upgrade to an even more powerful V8 engine, they are exorbitantly priced and cost as much as the base trim of the uber-luxurious Cadillac Escalade.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

With the new Chevrolet Tahoe as well, the brand’s ideology remains unwavering. With minor changes to the SUV including new exterior color options and the possible inclusion of the SuperCruise functionality, the vehicle continues to build its reputation as an all-around. In all other aspects, the SUV remains unchanged. The 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe price is expected to begin at $54,295. Considering its pricing and capabilities, it falls in a similar ballpark as the GMC Yukon, the Toyota Sequoia, and the Nissan Armada. How does the newest iteration fare against its rivals and does it manage to weave similar magic as the outgoing model? Let’s find out.

Features
8.0/10

The 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe carries forward with a similar set of trims from last year. Starting with the base LS option, the American SUV carries a price tag of $54,295, which though slightly higher than rivals, feels adequate considering the capabilities. It extends to $77,895 for a fully-loaded option. Each trim houses a standard V8 engine setup and is either available with an RWD or AWD setup. A 6.2L V8 engine, which produces more power, is also available to the buyers. As for features, the Tahoe feels dignified, it comes with a leather-wrapped power steering wheel, LED headlights, and remote engine start as standard. The higher trims receive access to a better set of features and optional packages like the Luxury Package and the Z71 Signature Package also add to the overall experience.

Release Date

The 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe release date has been scheduled for late 2022. However, buyers can plan the trim they want to opt for, as specific information is readily available.

Fuel Economy
6.3/10

As reported, the 2023 Tahoe manages impressive efficiency. Keeping in mind the power it bestows and the sheer weight, the SUV feels amply frugal. It averages 15,20, and 17 MPG in the city, highway, and combined driving conditions, which reduces with the larger engine. However, it sports a smaller fuel tank than its contemporaries, which can hold 24 gallons. As a result, the overall range is restricted to 408 miles, however, the difference with the competitors is only diminutive.

All the SUVs listed in the comparison are rather equally matched. While the verdict for the GMCis similar to its counterpart, the 2022 Armada and 2022 Sequoia manage lower efficiencies. They average 16 and 15 MPG, respectively, however, both options are equipped with larger fuel tanks. While the Toyota can hold 26.4 gallons of fuel, the Nissan SUV easily takes the lead with its best-in-class combined range of 416 miles.

Interior
9.0/10

The interiors of the 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe look like a one-bedroom apartment. It grants abundant space to the occupants in all the rows and feels comfortable and homely. The materials used are premium and add to the aesthetics of the vehicle. While the base trim makes use of cloth upholstery on the seats and with the higher trims, leather upholstery gains significance. The cabin is surrounded by soft-touch materials and even the setup feels ergonomic and far from gimmicky. There are several storage spaces in the form of door pockets, cupholders, glove compartment, and even the front seat armrest hides a storage box underneath it.

As for space, the Chevrolet Tahoe feels capacious. In all three rows, the SUV guarantees maximum head, shoulder, and legroom. All seats are user-friendly and even in the rearmost seat, adults can be accommodated without a minimum of fuss. Accessibility to all the rows is easy, thanks to the large opening doors and easily maneuverable middle row seats. Even the cargo capacity is class-leading. The 2023 Tahoe vaunts a maximum trunk volume of 122.9 cubic feet.

Compared to the competitors, all SUVs can seat eight passengers. However, none of the adversaries manage to secure the top position when put in direct contention with the Chevrolet Tahoe. Even the GMC Yukon has slightly lesser space in the third row. On the other hand, the 2022 Toyota Sequoia also has a smaller cabin footprint, but the difference is only diminutive. It is the Nissan Armada that fails to impress us and its cargo space of 95.4 cubic feet also makes it the most substandard option in comparison.

Some of the standout interior features available with the 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe include:

  • Heated and ventilated front seats
  • Power adjustability for front seats
  • Cloth/Leather upholstery
  • Interior Air Filtration
  • Dual/Tri-zone climate control
  • Remote engine start

How intuitive is the 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe’s infotainment system?

The 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe makes use of an intuitive infotainment system across all its trim levels. Each variant comes fitted with a 10.5-inch touchscreen display unit that is quick in its response and can be easily adapted. It sports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard and on the LT and higher trims, even Alexa integration is added to the mix. The controls are logically placed and seldom would buyers complain about their accessibility. A standard 6-speaker sound system is available on all the trims, however, the Premier and High Country trims get a 10-speaker Bose Premium Sound System. Both systems are impressive, but to add to the capabilities of the SUV, a 12.3-inch driver display screen is also provided by the brand.

Some of the other salient infotainment features include:

  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • 10-speaker Bose Sound System
  • Optional rear-seat entertainment system
  • Alexa integration with voice commands
  • AM/FM Stereo
  • USB Connection and Bluetooth Connectivity

Exterior
7.0/10

The 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe looks impressive and its bold structure easily suits the dimensions it vaunts. The exterior design looks sophisticated and has a plush aura to it, which justifies the price tag that the SUV carries. From all directions, it is beefy and brawny and the large black front grille adds to the muscularity of the vehicle. Since it has been recently redesigned, the Tahoe promises a distinct look with its cleverly styled headlamps and rather subtle taillamps. The interior space is evident from the large doors and the roof rails and 21/22-inch alloy wheels solidify the proper SUV stance. Additionally, for added appeal, the Z71 trims boast a unique front end while the RST option has black exterior elements.

When dimensions are concerned, the 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe easily emerges as the largest SUV in its class. It is 210.7 inches long, 81 inches wide, and stands at a total height of 75.8 inches. While the ground clearance has not yet been confirmed, the wheelbase of 120.9 inches feels potent, but it falls an inch short of the class leader.

In terms of design, every SUV has a distinct appearance. While the GMC Yukon and Nissan Armada look novel, the 2022 Toyota Sequoia looks slightly outdated and is scheduled for an overhaul in the next model year. Even when the dimensions are concerned, the ratings remain the same. The American SUVs are the largest in the class, while both Japanese propositions are smaller on paper. However, it is important to note that they possess longer wheelbases in comparison and the Sequoia even sports the best-in-class ground clearance of 10 inches, which is almost truck-like.

Some of the standout exterior features include:

  • Panoramic Sunroof
  • Rear Spoiler
  • Roof Rails
  • 21/22-inch alloy wheels
  • LED head and taillamps
  • Quad exit exhausts

Safety

When safety is concerned, the 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe is yet to be tested by federal and non-federal organizations. However, with a similar setup as before, we believe that the latest iteration like the 2022 MY might secure 4 out of 5 stars in the NHTSA ratings. The truck-based underpinnings help the SUV deliver a taut performance and even the feature list feels comprehensive. Though the base trim is barebones when safety features are concerned, it still offers rear parking aid, electronic stability control, and traction control. Some other salient and optional safety features available with the higher trims include:

  • Blind-spot Monitor
  • Lane Departure Warning System
  • Lane Keeping Assist
  • Daytime Running Lights
  • Cross-traffic Alert
  • Anti-theft Alarm System

Competition

2023 Chevrolet Tahoe vs 2022 GMC Yukon

Belonging to the same parent company, the 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe and 2022 GMC Yukonare based on a similar set of underpinnings. So, there is not much to differentiate the two SUVs. Both American offerings are slower in their acceleration but provide great acceleration, abundant cabin space, and practical trunk volume. They look novel from their recent redesigns and if there is one distinguishing factor, it is that the GMC looks more ostentatious than the Tahoe. So, either SUV makes for a sensible option.

2023 Chevrolet Tahoe vs 2022 Nissan Armada

The 2022 Nissan Armadais also a distinguished choice in the market. It sports a powerful V8 engine that produces more power than the 2023 Chevy Tahoe and is also a quicker proposition. It manages to average the best range in its class, however, the American SUV leads in all other aspects. It has better passenger space and sports a commodious third seat that can also accommodate adults as well. Its infotainment system is more intuitive and it also offers the best cargo space in the segment. So, for us, the Tahoe SUV is the more logical choice considering its versatility.

2023 Chevrolet Tahoe vs 2022 Toyota Sequoia

The 2022 Toyota Sequoia is closely matched with the Chevrolet Tahoe. Like the American SUV, the Japanese contender offers impressive passenger space, bestows generous cargo capacity, and has a likable driving aura. While it falls short on range and efficiency, the Sequoia manages better acceleration. However, being based on an aging platform, it looks old school and has a slightly inferior interior build as compared to the Tahoe. Additionally, it is scheduled for a complete redesign in 2023, and as a result, the 2022 MY might not be the most enticing choice for buyers.

Final Verdict

Without a doubt, the 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe is an enticing option in the fullsize SUV class. It nails the brief of an everyday vehicle for families and feeds the demands of a variegated class of buyers with its comprehensive trim structure. It is both practical and flamboyant and at the price that it is available, the 2023 Tahoe establishes itself as a versatile option. Not only is it easy to drive and efficient, but the two engine options on offer are enough to spoil the buyers. The only drawback we see, in an otherwise well-rounded vehicle, is that the optional features and packages are expensively priced and can increase the MSRP sharply. So, while we do recommend buyers opt for the SUV, we also suggest looking out for enticing deals on a used 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe for sale to stay within budget.
