Overview

Big, powerful, and practical, the 2020 Chevrolet Tahoe comes unchanged this year, with prices ranging from $49,000 up to $65,700. Unlike other large crossover SUVs, the Tahoe is based on the truck-like body-on-frame architecture and offers seating for up to 9 passengers. Apart from boasting V8 engines, the Tahoe can tow up to 8,600 pounds.

The bold and locky styling still attracts the masses while its practical interior, the 2020 Chevrolet Tahoe is one of the best buys in the market. Though it is not as efficient as the Ford Expedition, the ratings are in line with similar engines in the Toyota Sequoia.

Buying Advice

We would suggest going for the LT trim as it comes with an array of respectable standard features such as a power-adjustable driver's seat, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, and an upgraded premium stereo. The LT offers a long list of options to choose from.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

Chevrolet's 2020 Tahoe comes unchanged this year and ranks in the top half of our large SUV rankings. The Tahoe is built using a body-on-frame design and it is capable of accommodating as many as nine passengers at a time. The key highlights of the Tahoe include powerful engine choices, a comfortable ride quality, and a superb predicted reliability rating. You will find more when you start exploring this SUV. There's a lot more hidden inside. Let's take a deeper dive into the world of Tahoe. Shall we?

Features
7.0/10

The 2020 Chevy Tahoe is available in three trim levels, LS, LT, and Premier. The base Tahoe LS starts at $49,000 and offers an array of standard features and a fully functional infotainment system including Apple Carplay and Android Auto. It features a standard 5.3-liter V8 engine, a six-speed automatic transmission, and a rear-wheel drive. The mid-level LT trim costs $53,800 and the top-of-the-line Premier begins from $62,700.

The LT turns out to be more luxurious as it comes with features like leather upholstery and heated front seats and multiple option packages that can be customized easily. The top trim level Premier adds a stronger 6.2-liter V8 engine along with full-fledged luxury features.

6.2/10

With the base V8 and 2WD drivetrain, the Tahoe gets EPA estimated 15 mpg in the city and 22 mpg on the highway. These fuel economy numbers are about average in the class. The stronger V8 returns 14/23 mpg city/highway. The AWD models drop the ratings by 1 mpg on the highway. Every Tahoe comes with a 26-gallon fuel tank, which is good for an overall driving range of more than 490 miles.

Interior
8.0/10

“The cabin looks good at a glance. You'll find many soft touch points up front. But hard plastic pieces abound, and invariably there are some sharp edges.” - Edmunds

One of the biggest strengths of Chevy Tahoe is its spacious interior. It is the only full-size SUV that can accommodate up to nine passengers, thanks to LS trim’s available 3-person front bench seat. Once you are inside the Tahoe, you’ll find wide and cushy seats that are ideal for long trips. The second row is equally enjoyable whether you opt for the bench seats or bucket seats. However, the third row isn't as spacious as the one in the Ford Expedition, it's still decent. The Custom Edition package eliminates the third-row seats and lowers the price by $4,200, making the Tahoe a 5-passenger SUV.

The steering wheel’s telescopic range is not satisfactory but the power-adjustable pedals are a boon. The power folds rear seats make the third row easily accessible. The Tahoe SUV with third-row seating offers paltry15.3 cubic feet of cargo space. However, without the third row, the space expands to whooping  51.7 cubic feet. The Tahoe offers a total of 94.7 cubic feet of cargo space, which slightly lowers than the 2020 Ford Expedition's 104.6 cubic feet of cargo.

The infotainment system comprises an 8-inch touchscreen that comes integrated with standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. When it comes to the standard tech, Tahoe outshines its competitors. In addition to the refined infotainment, the Tahoe comes standard with a premium six-speaker stereo, Satellite radio, and a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot that is capable of connecting seven devices in one go.

  • Rear parking sensors
  • Rearview camera
  • 10-speaker Bose surround-sound system

  • Wireless charging for smartphones

Exterior
7.0/10

“With a squared-off two-box design, the Tahoe keeps things relatively simple, with a silhouette that could as easily be from 1999 as 2020.”- thecarconnection

There are few SUVs that resemble Chevy Tahoe that stands unchallenged with their sharp and bold design. It has got sharp-edged exterior styling along with sculpted flanks and LED daytime running lights. The Tahoe is wider than its GMC sibling, thanks to the wide grille in the front.

The Tahoe rides on 18-inch alloys, while the top-spec Premier gets larger 20-inch alloys. You can opt for even bigger 22-inch wheels. From the back, Tahoe looks broad and flat. The manual liftgate and a roof-mounted brake strip complement the tall taillights. A power liftgate is standard on the higher trims, and a sunroof is available.

Competition
9.0/10

2020 Chevrolet Tahoe vs. 2020 Ford Expedition

When it comes to towing capability, the Ford Expedition is Tahoe’s unbeaten rival. The Expedition beats Tahoe with a maximum towing capacity of up to 9000 pounds. The Expedition offers more cargo space than the Tahoe.

The 2020 Expedition's turbocharged V6 is also more powerful than the Tahoe. The Tahoe, on the other hand, offers a quiet and pleasant interior.

2020 Chevrolet Tahoe vs 2020 GMC Yukon

The 2020 GMC Yukon is a corporate cousin to the Chevy Tahoe and both share many of the same features. Both SUVs have the same powertrain choices and almost the same feature list. The major difference between the two is the stylings.

GMC is a somewhat upscale brand to Chevrolet and thus offers better quality interiors. With the same engines, same fuel economy numbers, similar spacing, and cargo, the choice will depend on brand loyalty.

Final Verdict

We don’t say that the Chevy Tahoe is the best but we can say that it’s better than most of the rivals in the class. The standard features that come with the Tahoe are just making the SUV lovable. If you are looking for an all-round big-size SUV, a better choice can be a Nissan Armada or Ford Expedition. Tahoe, on the other hand, offers good handling in comparison to the rivals. The choice is yours.
