Overview

A mammoth-looking Chevrolet. The Chevrolet Suburban presents properties more eligible than other pioneers of the segment called full-size SUVs. With this 12th generation, this blue whale of the ocean carries on the body-on-frame structure. Easily digestive interior for eight passengers shows a level of sophistication. Standard 355-horse-powered V8 is standard, while, 277-horsepower inline-six turbo diesel and 420-hp gas V8 are options to upgrade. Divided for a colossal cargo-carrying capacity, it is neither far behind in the context of towing functions. The infotainment system offers tons of tech to operate, but Chevy feels a bit diminished when you only aim to get your hands on the basic trims. Without much spending extra cash for the fanciest model, because it's not an effective luxury grade, the middle of the lineup is at a sweet place with its assortment of popular features and amazing capabilities.

Buying Advice

The RST endeavors as the best trim level to choose from. Leather seats for the front and second row, which cumulates from LT, also add up 22-inch wheels, unique exterior personality, and black-exterior trim ahead of the special RST seats with contrast stitching are some major factors it holds with it. A 10.2-inch infotainment touchscreen, wireless charging pad, auto-dimming rearview mirror, driver seat memory function, heated front seats, and much more it counts from LT without any charge.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

For 2023, the car mostly remains unchanged. On Premier and High Country trim levels, GM's Super Cruise hands-free driving technology will be available. Furthermore, new exterior colors consisting of Silver Gaze Metallic, Sterling Grey Metallic, and Radiant Red Tinticoat are now available. And now the LS, LT, RST, and Premier can be equipped with blacked-out grille perpetually. Being of the most famous large SUVs, it runs with Ford Expedition Max, Toyota Sequoia, and Jeep wagoneer.

Engine and Performance
7.0/10

A gaseous 5.3L V8 engine is an entry-level engine offered with the Suburban SUV. It helps run the car by producing 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque. Engaged with a 10-speed automatic transmission, the manufacturer sends a rear-wheel drive (RWD) platform by the standard. 4WD is sent optionally while RST brings it by default. A more dominating 420 hp 6.2L V8 is also available while another inline-six option brings 277 horsepower. With the optional 6.2L V8, the Suburban runs 0-60 mph in 6.7 seconds. This large-size SUV gains enough power to accomplish a quarter-mile distance in 15.5 seconds. 10-speed automatic transmission encounter is average in the class. Leather-wrapped steering column sends good grips to the hands. It is a smooth car to drive. Cursed with its bulky size, it gets stuck in the narrowed city lanes. On the highways, it runs fast, and one would appreciate the comfort that derives from seats. The first gear ratio is 4.69:1 which is acceptable. It falls up to 1.52 till the fifth and melts to 0.63 till the last gear shift. It takes 4.86 seconds to get back to reverse.

Toyota Sequoia is the most powerful full-size SUV under $60k. Ford Expedition Max makes its place wearing a crown of the most affordable full-size SUVs in 2023. The newest Chevy Suburban price holds it above the Toyota Sequoia and Jeep Wagoneer. Ford Expedition Max is one of the fastest full-size SUVs that come under budget in 2023. Jeep Wagoneer carries more power than Ford and Chevy, and provides relative performance numbers despite having the highest top speed. The 2023 Chevy Suburban's hp and torque output are ahead of the competition.

2023 Chevrolet Suburban Ride and Handling

The ride quality of 2023 Suburban is promising. Even with its bulky size, the SUV feels intelligently responsive and fulfilling. Seats are generously comfortable, and it strongly relies on the chosen trim level. Around the corners, it shells a bit of body roll, but looking at the competition, it still falls better than many rivals. It carves a turning diameter of 42.3 ft. Suburban can also be equipped with adaptive dampers. The air suspensions bring more height to the ride by adjusting suspensions. It helps bring more favorable passenger accessibility, ground clearance, and aerodynamics. Independent suspensions on the front, allow wheels to act accordingly. While multi-link on the rear allows for higher lateral stiffness and the desired toe change with appropriate vertical and longitudinal adherence. Chevy sends four drive modes with Suburban. Designed for everyday driving, Tour/Normal mode optimizes fuel economy and driving quality. In the Sport mode, the steering response is tightened, and suspension calibration is more responsive. Tow/Haul mode generates maximum torque to pull the payloads easily. Off Road is designed to help improve traction, maneuverability, and handling experience in off-road conditions. Standard 18-inch wheels move with tires of dimensions 265/65R18SL.

2023 Chevrolet Suburban Braking System

The braking performance of this large eight-seater SUV is exceptionally good. Brakes are highly responsive looking to their size and weight carried along. Standard forward collision mitigation warns of an anticipated crash and applies brakes in foolproof situations. An emergency braking system brings the car to a full stop if it detects the brakes are used to gain a sudden stop.

The 2023 Jeep wagoneer is the heaviest eight-seater SUV. Newest Ford Expedition Max is the least weighted full-size SUV under $60k. The 2023 Chevy Suburban's curb weight makes it a bit higher than Expedition Max, lacking four pounds to equalize with Toyota Sequoia. Being the most expensive eight-seater SUV, the Jeep Wagoneer brings extensive sizes of brake calipers to help it stop at a minimum distance possible. Taking curb weight and brake calipers of the Toyota Sequoia into consideration, an educated guess tells that it stops in the same distance as the Suburban.

Fuel Economy
6.8/10

The standard V8 engine is thirsty, hence it results in dull mileage numbers. Earning a combined mpg of 17, it shows 15 in the city and 20 on the highways. On a complete filling of the fuel of 28 gallons, the combined range rises to 476 miles. 420 city miles and 560 highway miles. The optional diesel engine sends 21 mpg in the city and 27 on highways. Furthermore, premium fuel is required by the engine. Still, it shows an impressive performance.

Toyota Sequoia is the best fuel-efficient eight-seater SUV to buy in 2023. Chevrolet Suburban's mpg is a bit dull when standing it against its classmates. Ford Expedition Max carries the biggest fuel capacity, while the Sequoia has the lowest. Jeep Wagoneer offers better fuel effectiveness than Chevy Suburban.

Interior
9.0/10

Inside the Suburban, the cabin feels super spacious not just to its predecessor, but also with much other competition. With an airy inside, seats feel much happier to drive on long distances. Doors open huge to accommodate people easily. Even the taller people do not face any issues surfing in and out of the cabin. Soft touch material welcomes people seated inside. Second-row door panels carry window controls, nicely fitted armrests, and some storage space to carry pieces of stuff. Front door panels are also trained for the same exercise, but to avail more comfort, they harvest seat adjustments. Seats are affluent, it ensures more legroom thanks to a vast cabin. Front seats are power-adjustable, keeping second and third-row seats constant. On the LT variant, front and second-row seat outfits leather, with a heating function on the front. Third-row seats are effortlessly attainable.

Dashboard is minimal looking. It gains a total of four AC vents, two of which are placed clung to a standard 8-inch infotainment touchscreen. It supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Leather-wrapped steering column brings manual tilt and telescopic function and holds several controls. The center console keeps a pleasingly lifted center armrest, a bigger storage compartment underneath, a gear selector, and few controls to round off.

LT and above trims get a 10.2-inch touchscreen. Chevrolet Infotainment 3 system is user-friendly, and the combination works smoothly with a responsive touchscreen. A six-speaker audio system gets upgraded with an LT model bringing 12-speaker Bose audio. Every model provides several charging ports throughout the cabin. • The 10.2-inch touchscreen on LT and above with Google functionality

Exterior
6.0/10

Outer appearances of Suburban are hulk-looking. The strong dominance inculcates an intent to destroy anything that comes its way. A bulky-looking approach helps to preserve this vehicle's great road presence. The front slanting hood feels a little disproportionate to the elongated body styling. It contains a V8 engine. Beautiful lines over the bonnet shelter are more than just a usual look to the car. The front grille is fully furnished with long horizontal chrome accent integration and the Chevrolet logo. Higher models get fully dark-out accents. Front spoiler lets in parking sensors to help prevent cars in tight parking situations.LED headlights with daytime running headlamps.

Side profile takes a simple look with just 18-inch wheels mounted along tires of measurement 265/65R18SL. Other models carry bigger 22-inch wheels suiting an assertive presence of the Suburban. Provided in nine-exterior shades, we prefer gazing at our Suburban in black accents for a Mafia vibe. All-black windows with chrome linings, body-colored door handles, and heated outside rearview mirrors are some glimpses of the Suburban from a side perspective. A highly simplistic rear end carries fixed third-row windows evolving elegantly with the rear window. Four visible exhaust tips, considerable lettering of SUBURBAN, LED brake lights, and power-lifted rear cargo access finishes off things.

Characteristics of the exterior features–

  • 18-inch wheels

  • Active aero shutters

Safety
6.0/10

Most of the essential safety features are seen absent in Suburban. Post-collision safety system mitigates secondary damages or collisions that may occur after an initial impact, thereby minimizing the severity of damage in a crash. The Suburban can be steered back into its lane if it drifts over the lane marker due to lane-keeping assistance. While parking, parking sensors alert you to obstacles that aren't visible in front of or behind the vehicle.

Salient features of safety system –

  • Standard forward-collision warning and automatic emergency braking
  • Standard lane-departure warning and lane-keeping assist
  • Available blind spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert
  • Dual front side-mounted airbags
  • Front, rear, and third-row head airbag
  • Airbag occupancy sensors
  • Stability control
  • ABS and driveline traction control
  • Child seat anchors
  • Rear door child safety locks

Competition

2023 Chevrolet Suburban vs. 2023 Ford Expedition Max

Ford Expedition Max offers the better power and torque figures, with the least price for any eight-seater SUV. Chevrolet is longer and carries an airier cabin than Ford. Both beasts carry highly identifiable as well as distinctive designs. Chevy sends a thirsty V8, while the turbocharged V6 engine on Expedition Max estimates a better mileage. Better cargo-carrying properties of Suburban leave the Ford behind.

2023 Chevrolet Suburban vs. 2023 Toyota Sequoia

Toyota is in a bit higher range bracket but truly pays off every penny with a huge jump in power and torque creations. The momentum of both is on a line. Toyota sends relatively shorter cabins. Everything extra large on the Suburban brings smiles with less money. The dashboard and cabin formation on Max hauls a more appealing look. Chevy has saved more towing and payload capacities to jump ahead.

2023 Chevrolet Suburban vs. 2023 Jeep Wagoneer

With over an extra $2000, Jeep provides a segment-leading maximum towing capacity. It also shows more mpg, but the larger fuel tank on Chevy reminds us of a more mileage of range. Standard adaptive cruise control on Wagoneer is nowhere seen even with extra money on Suburban. Suburban furnishes further legroom in last-row seats. Jeep brings a larger infotainment touchscreen.

Final Verdict

It is a splendid choice when one wishes to organize a town hall meeting inside an SUV. Exceptionally significant passenger space, cargo carrying capacity, outstanding maximum payload, towing strength, cozy seats, and a nicely integrated infotainment system are some of the key points that Chevy offers. A thirsty engine, dull performance, lack of essential features, and costly senior trims are some pathetic details. Expedition Max feels fast and offers the best value if one wishes to buy their first eight-seater SUV. Besides undisputed reliability, Toyota sends a better-looking interior and a huge upgrade in power. Jeep wagoneer shows off true potential with its peak towing capacity.
