Overview

The 2020 Chevrolet Spark remains unchanged as compared to the previous model year. To keep costs in check, Chevrolet has refrained from making any changes. The 2020 Chevy Spark hatchback price starts at $13,400 and an additional $995 is charged as destination fee over all the trim configurations. Although there are no significant changes, the cost to own one has increased by $180.

Featuring a 4-trim lineup of LS, 1LT, ACTIV, and 2LT, the 2020 Chevrolet Spark MSRP can be an expense of $13,400-$16,800 this season. Having said that, it simply translates to the fact that the range-leader 2020 Chevy Spark 2LT will cost you $3,400 more than the base 2020 Spark LS for enhanced specs and assets.

We Recommend

Considering the list of features, specs and an msrp of $15,300, we would suggest buying the 2020 Chevrolet Spark 1LT trim for budget-conscious buyers.

With a 1.4-liter inline-four engine under the hood, the Spark offers 98 horsepower on tap. The 2020 Chevrolet Spark mpg rating of 33 mpg (combined) is decent but the gas tank size could have been better. With 11.1 cubic feet of cargo space and decent build quality, the Spark 2020 interior won’t disappoint anyone. With zero recalls and just 10 complaints, the 2020 Chevrolet Spark problems are not significant in nature. Even the J.D. Power Consumer Rating of 85/100 for quality and reliability speaks for itself. Chevrolet’s small hatchback offers more power than the Mitsubishi Mirage, is cheaper than the Toyota Yaris and lighter than the Kia Rio.

2020 Chevrolet Spark for sale

The 2020 Chevy Spark LS trim lease cost can be a matter of $199/month for a term of 36 months with an annual mileage limit of 10,000 miles. The same model can also be financed for as low as 3.49% APR for a term of 48 months and $306/month along with 10% down payment.

For budget-oriented buyers, the used 2020 Chevrolet Spark can be availed of with a base price of $5,995. Going for older model years like the 2019 Chevy Spark could be a matter of $5,995 and Chevy Spark 2018 can cost as much as $8,495 along with a listing of up to 2,839 in total.

Buying Advice

Despite the LS trim getting a whole bunch of feature updates over its last year's model, the trim we would personally suggest would be the 1LT trim. Going over the 1LT trim would make sense for consumers looking for a feature-packed Hatchback but for most, the 1LT would do the job well. It comes with power accessories, Keyless Entry, Cruise Control, Steering mounted controls, and a host of other features.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

The 2020 Chevrolet Spark starts from $13,400 for the base manual LS variant and goes over $17,900 for the top-end 2LT Automatic CVT variant. The Spark is offered with an Inline-4 engine that packs quite a punch, especially when driving around town. There is also an Activ Variant on sale that adds to some features of the 1LT and makes the mundane Spark look rugged and more like a small crossover. Considering its price tag, it challenges the likes of some well-established rivals like Kia Rio, Mitsubishi Mirage, and Toyota Yaris.

Features
5.0/10

The 2020 Chevrolet Spark on Sale in the US today comes in four trim choices namely LS, 1LT, 2LT, and Activ. The base variant is the LS and starts at $13,400 with the manual transmission while the top end 2LT which comes with a CVT gearbox is priced at $17,900. The prices of all trims are pretty close but there are a few features that differentiate those trims. Irrespective of the trim you chose a naturally aspirated inline-4 engine is standard with the choice of manual or a CVT gearbox. The Activ trim is a standout trim with unique body works and a raised suspension to give it a more rugged look. That said, for trim-wise bifurcation and feature list refer to the table below.

Fuel Economy
6.0/10

The 2020 Chevrolet Spark with the manual gearbox returns an EPA estimated gas mileage of 29 mpg in the city, 38 mpg on the highway, and 33 mpg combined. Goin with the CVT gearbox sees an improvement of 1 mpg in the city gas mileage while on the highway the mileage remains the same. Among all the hatchbacks the Spark gets the smallest 9-gallon fuel tank which is adequate for city driving but will make you do more fuel stops compared to the other hatchbacks here.

The Mitsubishi Mirage and the Kia Rio blow the competition out of the park with their MPG figures while the Yaris trails returning just one mpg less than the former two. Unfortunately, the Spark disappoints with its lower gas mileage and smaller fuel tank. Compared to the Rio or Mirage it returns 4 mpg less in the city and 3 mpg less on the highway.

Interior
4.0/10

"Yes, the Spark is small, but its interior layout is functional. The high roofline gives it decent access and visibility. But other subcompacts offer more rear legroom." –Edmunds.com

2020 Chevrolet Spark Seating and Comfort

Considering the price at which the Spark is positioned, it is obvious that one must not have high hopes and expectations from the interiors of 2020 Spark. The seats offer decent support while cost-cutting can be seen in the overall interior quality. There are a lot of scratchy plastics around and the dark interiors accentuate the cramped nature of the cabin. Although the ingress and egress are pretty easy due to higher seating positions and wide-opening doors.

Headroom won’t be an issue for people at the front and the back however the legroom is a big concern especially in the 2nd row which requires you to slide the front seats to let adults get inside in the first place. Thus we suggest keeping the rear seats only for small kids or teenagers.

The fabric upholstery is standard however leather upholstery is available as an option with a heating function for the front seats. The front seats have an armrest which adds to the ease of the driver if not uplifts the overall mood of the cabin. The illuminated interior lighting, however, tends to create some roominess in an overall dull-looking cabin.

Interior Features:

The 2020 Spark might be an entry-level car from Chevrolet's stable, however, it does come with its own set of tricks up its sleeve. Some of the key highlights of the Spark's cabin include:

  • Air conditioner w/ cabin air filter
  • Rear window defogger
  • Manual tilt steering column
  • Available power sliding sunroof
  • Available power windows on all doors

2020 Chevrolet Spark Infotainment System

The Chevrolet Spark has always been targeted at millennials and the youth. The best way to connect with the Youth is to keep them connected. Right from the base trim the 2020 Spark gets 7-inch touchscreen infotainment with a 4-speaker audio system while the 1LT and models above come with a 6-speaker system.

There are a host of Connectivity features on the 2020 Spark with some of the features being the OnStar communication system with 4G LTE and Wi-Fi hotspot, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, myChevrolet app, etc.

2020 Chevrolet Spark Cargo Capacity

The 2020 Spark offers 11.1 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats and with the rear seats folded down, you get 27.2 cubic feet of space. The compact dimensions of the Spark tend to give it lower cargo space against the competition with the rear cargo space not even able to swallow four carry-on suitcases.

2020 Chevrolet Spark Dimensions and Design

The Chevrolet Spark has always been the “Cute Little City Hatch” for people in the world and the US. The 2020 Spark continues with the same design language and will mostly appeal to young buyers. The design has a modern blend of youthfulness and functionality with the new chrome accentuated grill and sharp character lines on the side doors.

There's not a lot of difference between the previous year's model with the latter's headlamps getting tweaked slightly. Frankly, it doesn't need one. It looks smart and has its own sweet little presence on the road. And not just the design, its compact dimensions further enable a trouble-free drive within city limits.

The compact proportions of the Spark, as friendly as it is for the city commuters, totally lose out when pitted against the competition. But that's okay because the Spark is meant to appeal to those buyers who prefer a compact yet necessarily spacious vehicle. If you are one of those who want the biggest vehicle for your money, then it's the Kia Rio that you want.

Exterior Features:

The Spark is one of the few hatchbacks in the segment that makes heads turn around, wherever it goes. The Malibu inspired headlamps, the Chrome Garnish, inserts in the front grill and the Big Bowtie Chevrolet logo add to the overall appeal of the Spark.

  • LED Daytime Running Lamps
  • External Rear Spoiler
  • Body-Colored Door handles
  • Fog Lamps and Luggage Rack on the Activ Trim
  • Roof Rails on Activ Trim
  • Available Projector Beam Headlamps

Safety
8.0/10

Chevrolet offers great levels of safety in the 2020 Spark and it boasts of several safety tech features which other competitors are yet to get. The bodyshell of the Spark is itself made using High Strength Steel for maximum impact absorption in an event of a crash. As for the safety ratings, the 2020 Spark hasn't been crash-tested by NHTSA while the IIHS has only tested it for two parameters where it scored the highest rating of 'Good'.

Safety Features:

  • Rear Vision Parking Camera
  • Available Forward Collision Alert
  • Available Lane Departure Warning
  • Available Automatic Emergency Braking

Competition
9.0/10

2020 Chevrolet Spark vs 2020 Kia Rio

The Kia Rio received a facelift in 2018 and since then has been ranked as one of the top compact cars in the segment. It has a peppier engine, better driving dynamics and agility on both city and highway. However, if you plan on using your car for city driving, Spark offers a case on its own.

The Spark has compact proportions, a good engine for city overtakes, and a small turning radius that makes it a fun ride in the city. But overall the Rio is better proportioned and offers more practicality and space inside than the Spark. Thus between the two, we won't bat an eyelid before suggesting the Rio even though it is priced at a premium.

2020 Chevrolet Spark vs 2020 Mitsubishi Mirage

Undoubtedly, the Mitsubishi Mirage is the mileage champ of the segment. The Spark, however, manages to do everything better at a lower price and with a slightly lower MPG figure. Add to this, the fact that the Mitsubishi is the only car in the segment that comes with a three-cylinder motor and the lowest in-class power and torque figures worsens the case for the Mirage.

Thus between the two if you can forgo the mileage part then the Spark is an overall better pick.

2020 Chevrolet Spark vs 2020 Toyota Yaris

The Toyota Yaris is among the only few cars in the segment to offer a manual transmission. The Toyota offers the best build quality than the Spark but we still are not big fans of material quality. Being Japanese adds to the reliability factor of Toyota and this acts in favor of the Yaris. The Spark, on the other hand, is $2,500 less than the Toyota and is a better car to drive in the city.

The Yaris also does with better standard equipment and MPG figures than the Spark. While cabin space and practicality offered by the Yaris also puts it at an advantage over the Spark. Thus if you are comfortable paying a slight premium then you should definitely pick the Yaris over the Spark.

Final Verdict

The 2020 Chevrolet Spark is one of the smallest and cheapest cars currently on sale in America. It offers good drivability around the city and decent MPG figures. The 2020 model also gets a great set of standard features on the Infotainment front like a big touchscreen unit and 4G LTE connectivity with a Wi-Fi hotspot.

On the whole, though, we feel that the Chevy packs some “Spark” when it comes to using it in the city. Its compact proportions and stylish looks further make it a good proposition for buyers. So if you are in the market for a stylish-looking hatchback that will suit your city's needs well, the 2020 Chevrolet Spark could be a good buy.

You're looking at your best little buddy! Runs like a dream

Pros - ["Touchscreen Radio", "Gas mileage"]

Cons - ["No trunk space", "Too many bad sensors"]

This vehicle is state of New York five star from me. It is great ass mileage I've not had any problems with the performance of the vehicle. The only thing that I would change is having more trunk space. I love the upholstery. I love the analytics of the touch screen and being able to change the background. It's very suitable compact car.

              Ridiculous ride quality.

Pros - Easy to drive, Fuel efficient.

Cons - Infotainment screen, ride quality, Small rear seats.

Moreover, the infotainment screen is very small and not so bright during dayligh...
