With an average sale of 2,200 units monthly, the Chevrolet Spark is one of the more popular hatchback options available in the segment today. It is in a similar generation since 2015 and has improved in terms of features while upholding its affordable status. Though the initial iterations were slightly problematic, all model years since 2018 have been almost inch-perfect. The 2020 Chevrolet Spark, which is the latest introduction, has just 9 complaints to its name. While the user grievances are similar to the yesteryear variant, there have been no recalls this year. The new Chevy Spark price starts at $13,400 and falls in a similar ballpark as the 2020 Kia Rio, the 2020 Mitsubishi Mirage, and the 2020 Toyota Yaris.

2020 Chevrolet Spark User Complaints and Problems

Mechanical Complaints

  • Problem with the steering system: In the list of the 2020 Chevrolet Spark problems, one buyer has reported the steering system shuddering excessively. When turning left, the complainant recorded the vehicle hesitating and swaying violently, which caused the vehicle to get out of control. While it has only been noted once, the problem occurred at low mileage.

Safety Complaints

  • Non-deployment of airbags: In a handful of cases, buyers of the 2020 Spark have reported problems with the airbag system. In the event of a crash, complainants have recorded the non-deployment of airbags in case of a crash. Where the airbags did deploy, the occupant sustained injuries on their leg due to violent deployment.

Electric System Complaints

  • Underlying electrical concerns: In one case, a buyer of the 2020 Chevrolet Spark reported the restraint system to fail without any prior symptoms. However, there were two error codes that were displayed on the information cluster. When an inspection was conducted, it was found that the Body Control Module (BCM) had failed.

2020 Chevrolet Spark Recalls

The 2020 Chevy Spark problems are neither rampant nor concerning. In the past few years, the performance of the hatchback has improved manifold. While there was one recall in the previous model year, the 2020 iteration remains unscathed. This puts the vehicle into an idealistic position, which allows it to rank highly on our list. Even its performance compared to its adversaries is superior and top-notch. While the MitsubishiMirage also has zero recalls, options from brands like Kia and Toyota have been called back only once.

Should you buy the 2020 Chevrolet Spark?

The 2020 Chevrolet Spark’s common faults do not warrant excessive attention from the brand. It promises a relatively trouble-free ownership experience, which makes it a brilliant option for those looking for an affordable vehicle. So, in terms of dependability, the American hatchback is a top-notch choice. However, in addition to its reliability, the Chevrolet Spark comes packed with a list of top-notch features, high frugality, and is highly maneuverable. While it is not the most powerful vehicle in its class, the hatchback continues to be a comprehensive option.
