The Chevrolet Spark is the kind of car that doesn’t particularly jump out in anyways to the regular eye. It is a mediocre car among the various options in the subcompact hatchback segment. It has a bit of everything, just enough, but never sufficient. Henceforth, the vehicle doesn’t jump out to anyone for any particular reason. Officially, the 2018 Chevrolet Spark has only 5 complaints and no other recalls or investigations as of this date. The complaints usually state that the vehicle feels like it “does not want to accelerate” when the user tries to accelerate from a full stop, which has caused great distress for all the users who have faced this problem. Rivals of the Chevrolet hatchback fall in a similar ballpark as the MINI Cooper Clubman, the Toyota Yaris, and the Fiat 500.

User Complaints and Problems for the 2018 Chevrolet Spark

Mechanical Problems

  • Brakes squeaking -. One user has indicated that the brakes make a weird and often squeaking noise when applied, especially when fully applied.
  • Transmission hesitates - Multiple users have indicated that the vehicle’s transmission hesitates after they try to accelerate from a full stop. It feels like the vehicle does not want to get into gear and accelerate, the vehicle fails to find the right gear and often shifts to a higher gear causing the engine to rev unnecessarily. Oftentimes this has caused small problems for the users, but no accidents or incidents have been officially registered.

Recalls for the 2018 Chevrolet Spark

There have been no recalls made for this particular year of the Chevrolet Spark, which in terms of reliability puts it ahead, by the slightest compared to the competition.

Should you buy the 2018 Chevrolet Spark

As mentioned earlier the vehicle has nothing special about it. It has just enough power, seating, and technological features to let the user go by in the modern car world. This would be the reason why it has a much less “ownership cost” than the other subcompact cars. Therefore, there is no harm in purchasing the 2018 Chevrolet Spark. Its competitors like the MINI COOPER CLUBMAN is a much fancier choice, which comes with a heftier price tag but gives you better features all around if you find the Chevy too boring. The complaints mentioned are not repetitive enough to indicate a chronic problem, but it doesn’t hurt to check the transmission before purchasing the Chevy hatchback.
