The Tahoe can seat up to nine people, but this also affects the cargo capacity of this SUV. In terms of safety as well, the Tahoe packs in a strong list of advanced safety features. The 2018 Tahoe is powered by a 5.3L V8 engine coupled to a six-speed automatic transmission and has the rear-wheel-drive as standard. The car is offered in three trim levels, and pricing starts at $47,500 for the base trim.

The 2018 Chevy Tahoe has an above average price, and it gets expensive fast as you move up the trims and options. Judging by the cost-to-features ratio, the LT trim emerges as a good buy. The 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe is available in 3 trims levels. A 5.3L V8 is standard on all trims, with an output of 355 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque. The engine is mated to a 6-speed transmission and comes with RWD as standard, and 4WD is optional on all the trims. For 2018, the Tahoe gets a new performance package, the RST package that adds a 6.2L V8 which has an output of 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque, and comes with a 10-speed automatic and 4WD. The Tahoe has a powerful engine, with a refined ride, but does not have the best handling. The Tahoe, for its weight, has a decent fuel economy as well. All trims come standard with a 5.3L V8 engine with a 6-speed automatic transmission. Alloy wheels, remote keyless entry and ignition, trailer hitch receiver with wiring harness, roof rails, tri-zone automatic climate control, 60/40 split-folding second and third-row bench seats, and Chevrolet's MyLink infotainment system are some of the standard features across all trims.

The Tahoe comes with a few optional packages and a lot of standalone options. These options range from $35 to $2,995. All the trims get the Max Trailering package, which adds a different rear axle ratio, trailer brake controller, and other features for a price of $580. The LS trim gets an optional Enhanced Driver Alert package that adds advanced safety systems for $695. The LT trim gets the Z71 off-road package that adds features meant for the Tahoe to go off-roading for a premium of $1,850. The Luxury Package adds a few creature comforts on the inside and is priced at $2,860. Both the LT and the Premier trim to get the Sun, Entertainment, and Destination packages which add a few infotainment features for around $2,880. The all-new RST Edition package, which is an appearance package for the LT and Premier trims are priced at $2,640. According to us, the LT trim is the most balanced trim for a seven-seater requirement. It is well-equipped in terms of interior features, has a lot of creature comforts on offer, optional seating for eight passengers, and the safety net of some advanced driver assistance features. The RST appearance package is recommended, and so is the Luxury Package. All in all, the LT with these packages will cost around $60,000. If a third row is not needed, then the LS with the custom package that makes it a five-seater will be sufficient.

The 6.2L powered Tahoe returns 14 mpg in the city, 22 mpg on the highway, and 17 mpg combined. The Tahoe has a fuel capacity of 26 gallons, which gives it a range of 416 city miles and 598 highway miles, with the 5.3L V8 engine. The Ford Expedition has the most fuel economy at 20 mpg combined. The Yukon and the Tahoe have the same combined mileage at 19 mpg. The Armada, with its excellent performance has the least economy at 16 mpg combined. The most range is on the GMC twins, at 416 city miles and 598 highway miles. 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe Seating and Comfort

The 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe interior is a great place to be in. Its comfortable, spacious, and the space management on the inside has been done well. In terms of quality, the materials used are all of high quality, with good fit and finish levels. A variety of these materials come together, to form the interior, from soft-touch materials to hard plastics, leather, and some cloth inserts as well. The hard plastics are well finished and have a sense of premium to them. Controls are logically placed and are easy to access apart from a few tiny ones located in the center console. Stitched panels cover the dash and the doors, and there are absolutely no panel gaps as well. Ride comfort is decent, with the suspension taking care of most of the bumps and undulations to provide a smooth experience on the inside. The cabin is one the quietest in this class, with little to no road and wind noise, and no engine sounds as well.

The Tahoe can seat up to 8 passengers, but with bucket seats, it goes down to seven. In the front, the seats are wide and are well-cushioned, and offer a lot of support. The front row has a long legroom, making it one of the most comfortable spots to be in for a long drive. In the middle row, space is slightly compromised but there's a decent amount of support and comfort on offer. The middle row seats are not as well-cushioned as the front seats. The third row fails to impress, with its flat and tight seating space. Visibility is good all-around, with the pillars not being an interference of any sort. However, the small mirrors do limit the rearview. Ingress and egress are not difficult, but the Tahoe's tall height can give an extra effort to some. The grab handles and the running boards help.

The layout is simple, with an easy understanding of the interface. Navigating through the menu is easy, and responses to touch inputs have no lag. The sound quality, however, is not the best.

As standard, the infotainment system gets Chevy's OnStar communications with 4G LTE and WiFi hotspot, an eight-inch touchscreen, 110-volt power outlet, Bluetooth, satellite radio, and a six-speaker sound system with a CD player. There is also an optional rear-seat entertainment system ranging from $1,720 to 1,995. Some other infotainment features include:

2018 Chevrolet Tahoe Cargo Capacity

The 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe does not have the best cargo capacity in this segment. The Tahoe has a standard cargo capacity of 15.3 cu-ft, which increases to 51.6 cu-ft with the second-row seats folded down. With the second and third-row folded, the Tahoe has a maximum cargo capacity of 94.7 cu-ft.

A power liftgate and the power-folding third-row seats do make it easy to expand the cargo space. However, the load float is high off the ground, which will make loading and unloading slightly hard. On the Custom LS trim, there is no third row, so the standard cargo capacity stands at 51.6 cu-ft.

The most standard cargo space is on the Expedition, at 36 cu-ft. The Tahoe and the Yukon have the same standard capacity at 15.3 cu-ft, whereas the Armada has a slightly larger space at 16.5 cu-ft. The Expedition also has the most cargo capacity at 121.4 cu-ft, with the Armada having the second-best at 95.4 cu-ft. In the second row, all four cars offer a decent amount of space.

2018 Chevrolet Tahoe Dimensions and Weight

The 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe gets no changes to its exterior for the year 2018, since its redesign back in 2015. The Tahoe has a boxy profile, and it does remind us of the Tahoe's old roots. However, this new-age Tahoe flaunts a sharp styling and has sculpted flanks. In the front, the Tahoe gets a split headlamp set up with a wide blacked-out (or chrome finished) grille that integrated well into the headlamps. The thick front bumper houses the small rectangular foglights and gives an imposing look from the front.

At the side, the car gets a more aerodynamic shape that is clearly seen from the crisp lines that run all along the side. The square wheel arches, and the straight lines along the roof and the door highlight its upright stance. The large 18-inch wheels give an off-roader look with the tall height. At the rear, the Tahoe is simple, with no flair to the vertical taillights. A large rectangular window continues the boxy look.

The main highlight to the exterior is with the RST package, which adds a few exterior cosmetics. RST stands for Rally Sport Truck, and the design changes follow. It gets 22-inch alloy wheels and body-colored exterior pieces. The Custom package LS trim gets grey finished alloy wheels. The Z71 off-road package also adds unique exterior cosmetic elements, skid plates, and tubular side steps.

Dimensionally, the Tahoe is 204 inches long, with a width and height of 80.5 inches and 74.4 inches. It sits 7.9 inches off the ground and has a wheelbase of 116 inches. The Tahoe weighs 5355 lbs with the FWD and 5602 lbs with the AWD.

The four SUVs are very close dimensionally, but there are a few differences. The Nissan Armada is the longest, at 208.3 inches, whereas the Yukon is the shortest. The GM twins have the most width, and the Expedition is the narrowest. The height on the Expedition is the most, and the least on the GM twins. In terms of weight, the Armada is the heaviest of the lot, whereas the Tahoe is the lightest. The Armada also has the most wheelbase at 121 inches. The Tahoe and the Yukon have the least. However, the NHTSA gave the Tahoe an overall rating of 4-stars, with 3-stars to its rollover test due to the high center of gravity. The Tahoe uses body-on-frame construction and is based on the GMTK2XX platform (K2UC to be precise). As standard, the Tahoe is equipped with seven airbags, stability control, traction control, anti-lock brakes, engine immobilizer, and emergency braking assist.

The 2018 Nissan Armada gets a more powerful engine, which has better output than the Tahoe. The Armada's performance runs are much faster than the Tahoe's, and the Armada also has a better payload capacity. The braking performance of the Tahoe's is stronger and much better. The Tahoe however, has a higher towing capacity than the Armada. Coming to driving dynamics, the Armada is a better handler, and is much more stable than the Tahoe in corners. Coming to fuel economy, the Tahoe has a better economy, with a longer range as well.

In the interior, both the cars have pretty well-polished interiors and are very loaded with features. In terms of seating comfort, the Armada is more spacious in the rear than the Tahoe. The Tahoe however has a higher roof, giving it better headroom. On the technology front, the Armada's screen is bigger, but the Tahoe's system is very advanced, more straightforward, and easier to use as well. The Armada has not been safety rated, whereas the Tahoe has got a rating of 4-stars from NHTSA. Both the cars are well-equipped in terms of safety features. Between these two, the Armada is the more affordable ones, but the Tahoe is the better package.

The 2018 Ford Expedition is also a very high-ranking SUV like the Tahoe. The Expedition also has a powerful array of engines and also gets a better performing 10-speed transmission. The Ford Expedition also has been updated for 2018, which makes it a more modern car overall. The steering feedback in both the cars is not great, but the Ford handles much better than the Tahoe. The Expedition can tow a lot more than the Tahoe. The Ford's fuel economy is much better than the Chevy's, but the Tahoe has a bigger tank capacity than the Expedition which gives it a longer range.

The Ford Expedition's interiors are quite spacious, and both the cars come close in terms of interior quality and seating comfort. However, the Ford has more passenger space and has more cargo capacity as well. In terms of ease of technology, the Tahoe has a more user-friendly interface and a much smoother system. Coming to safety, the Expedition has not been rated at all, whereas the Chevy Tahoe has been rated 4-stars from the NHTSA. All in all, despite the Expedition's higher price, it makes a much better car overall.

Final Verdict

For a large family with a large tow requirements, the Tahoe is the right choice. It has a rugged body, is built on a proven frame, and packs in all the necessary safety equipment as well. The Tahoe can be a daily driver as well, despite its large size and average handling. The Tahoe has a decent fuel economy as well. The Tahoe gets a superb interior, which offers all the basic amenities expected at this price, and is loaded with features The seats are comfortable and spacious. However, the Tahoe does have its limitations. The third row is tight, and there's not much cargo capacity as well. It's not the easiest to drive, and its large size restricts maneuverability. As a result, the Tahoe does impress in most factors, but it is not the most well-made full-size SUV out there. We do recommend the Tahoe but have a look at some other SUVs as well.

              Greatest vehicle investment I have made

              Pros - ["Great Ride", "Great on Mileage", "No mechanical issues"]

              Cons - ["Navigation", "The cargo cover does not cover the entire cargo area when the third row seat is down", "No Gas Cap"]

              The Tahoe has a ton of Power while getting great gas mileage. It rides nice, can tow almost anything I throw at it and has never failed me on anything. It is nice and quiet inside with a great sound system, and creature comforts. One of, if not the only drawback to the Tahoe is, someone had a brilliant idea to build these without Gas Caps.
