ProsConsWhat's New

Incredible towing capacity and reliable trailer-assist capabilities.

The interior design is quite unremarkable and outdated.

For the 2023 model year, there are no notable modifications to the Chevy Silverado 2500HD Regular Cab, but Chevy has already revealed that the 2024 model would receive a stylistic update and new equipment.

The optional turbodiesel powertrain produces a staggering amount of torque.

Forward view is impeded by a high, wide hood.

It is a part of the fourth Silverado HD generation that was introduced in the year 2020.

A spacious bed and a roomy cabin with ample storage capacity.

It lacks conventional safety technology and safety is a major concern.

It is extremely comfortable to ride in.

Only diesel engines are combined with an optional 10-speed automatic transmission.

Overview

The biggest and most powerful vehicles General Motors has ever produced are part of Chevy's current lineup of Silverado Heavy Duty pickups. The Silverado 2500HD Regular Cab doesn't take a break when it comes to towing the massive equipment that can move mountains or even just pull itself. Despite its size, the Chevy is simple to operate in town and is quite comfortable because of its firm seats and generous headroom and legroom space. Most customers will find the base V8 gas engine to be strong enough, but for serious towing and hauling, we will recommend buying the optional Duramax turbodiesel engine. The majority of clients won't mind that it isn't as fanciful as other vehicles in its price range. With a sizable towing capacity, sophisticated trailering applications, and decent fuel efficiency that will work every day, the large Silverado excels where it matters.

Buying Advice

We will recommend the LT trim and with that trim option, we would also suggest the enhanced optional Duramax diesel engine and four-wheel drive. For greater capabilities and enhanced style, we suggest the Z71 Off-Road package (17-inch wheels, all-terrain tires, Z71 grille emblem, Z71 hard badge, Skid plates, Hill Descent Control, Z71 Off-Road suspension with Rancho twin tube shocks). Due to its appealing features, we'd also pick the Convenience bundle. These include heated front seats, dual-zone temperature control, a 10-way power driver's seat, LED cargo bed lighting, a heated steering wheel, a remote start, and more. Finally, the Safety package's blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic warning, and front and rear parking sensors make this beast more manageable.

Comparative Analysis against Competition

For the 2023 model year, the Silverado HD won't experience any significant changes, but Chevy has already revealed 2024 model-year styling updates and equipment upgrades. The Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD Regular Cab features a big, comfortable interior in addition to the strength and versatility you'd expect from a heavy-duty truck. The 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD Regular Cab comes in two trims options for the regular cab body design which are WT and LT, the Chevy 2500HD Regular Cab price starts at an MSRP of around $42,295 which can go up to a maximum of $60,180 with the top-tier model and with the optional engine option. In this segment, it will always continue to compete against the likes of the Ford F-250 SuperDuty Regular Cab, the RAM 2500 Regular Cab, and the GMC Sierra 2500HD Regular Cab.

Engine and Performance
6.3/10

The 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD Regular Cab is powered by a standard 6.6L gas-powered engine which is mated with a six-speed automatic transmission that generates an engine output of 401 hp and 464 lb-ft of torque. On the other hand, the 6.6L V-8 Duramax diesel engine is still an option from its predecessor, and it generates 445 hp and 910 lb-feet of torque and is paired with an Allison 10-speed automatic transmission. Furthermore, the 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD Regular Cab standard engine can complete a 0 to 60 MPH run in 7.5 seconds and 15.6 seconds to cover the quarter-mile, and it can have a maximum towing capacity of 14,500 lbs. Each of these engines is compatible with the single or dual-rear-wheel axle and pairs with rear or four-wheel drive. The truck's speed was well controlled by the gas engine and six-speed automatic, which is crucial for hauling up steep gradients. But for individuals who pull large weights on a regular basis, the Duramax powerplant is the one to purchase. Additionally, the transmission's smooth reflexes gave an added sense of confidence and assurance.

The 2023 RAM 2500 that comes equipped with a 6.4L V8 engine generates a much better engine output of 410 hp and 429 lb-ft of torque, the Chevy 2500HD Regular Cab, and the Sierra 2500HD Regular Cab generate an equivalent engine output of 401 hp and 464 lb-ft of torque, furthermore, the GMC Sierra 2500HD Regular Cab can cover the 0 to 60 MPH in 7.5 seconds and 15.6 seconds to cover the quarter-mile mark, and it can tow up to a maximum of 14,500 lbs which is similar to the Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD Regular Cab. The RAM single cab can complete a 0 to 60 MPH run in 7.2 seconds while it takes 15.6 seconds to complete the quarter-mile mark, and it has a maximum towing capacity of 15,530 lbs while the F250 SuperDuty completes the 0 to 60 MPH run in 7.6 seconds and it has the least towing capacity of 13,300 lbs among its adversaries.

2023 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD Regular Cab Ride and Handling

The 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD Regular Cab comes equipped with an automatic locking rear differential that detects a sizable discrepancy in wheel speed, it locks to cause both rear wheels to turn simultaneously for increased traction. The truck's trajectory is changed by the StabiliTrak Electronic Stability Control system by applying the brakes to prevent wheel slumber. The system can detect when the driver has lost control of the car by using a number of sensors. To prevent a collision, the system then applies braking torque and pressure, and it affects how a car steers. Additionally, the suspension package is specifically made to keep handling and ride quality while pulling a trailer or hauling cargo. Even with the electric-assist system installed, the heavy-duty Silverado's lack of steering precision and input was less comforting. However, considering its tremendous powers, the big Chevy rides remarkably smoothly. Even though it lacks elegance, the Chevy can navigate city streets and difficult terrain with equal ease, despite the fact that it will never be sporty.

2023 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD Regular Cab Braking Performance

The 2023 Silverado 2500HD Regular Cab comes equipped with a set of brake rotors measuring 14 and 14.1 inches at the front and at the rear, and even with an excessive curb weight of 6,105 lbs it manages the vehicle from 60MPH to a complete stop in 135 feet. The Silverado's brakes are adequate in strength, as would be anticipated from a vehicle made to tow huge loads, and the electronic trailer brake controller aids in stabilizing your pulled weight during deceleration. Furthermore, it comes equipped with brake assist and provides additional braking via ABS system, 4-wheel antilock brakes, and 4-wheel disc with Duralife rotors that ensure a competitive performance.

The 2023 F250 comes with a potent set of brake rotors measuring 14.3 inches at the front and at the rear, and with the east curb weight of 5,677 lbs in its class it is expected to be the most efficient in deceleration. The 2023 RAM 2500 has a set of rotors measuring 14.2 and 14.1 inches at the front and at the rear, and it ranks second on the table, while the brake rotors of the 2500HD Regular Cab Chevy and the 2023 GMC Sierra 2500HD Regular Cab brake rotors measuring 14 and 14.1 inches and curb weight measure 6,105 lbs almost the same, and they both have strong stopping power.

Fuel Economy
6.3/10

Since the 2023 Chevy Silverado 2500HD Regular Cab is too big to be tested by the EPA, there is no federal fuel efficiency estimate for it, therefore, we are unable to rate the fuel efficiency. We can only evaluate the Silverado HD and its enormous competitors' real-world mpg on our 75-mph highway fuel efficiency route since the EPA doesn't test huge cars. According to Car and Driver, the 6.6L gasoline V-8 we used to evaluate the Silverado 2500HD Regular Cab returned 14 MPG on the highway. However, the Chevy Silverado has a sizable gasoline tank of 36 gallons, and if calculations are accurate, the Silverado 2500HD Regular Cab would have a driving range of more than 550 miles.

Interior
6.3/10

The Silverado 2500HD Regular Cab cabin and amenities nonetheless manage to go above ordinary truck luxury and impress for its spacious cabin. Huge front doors open to expose comfortable front seats, either in a three-seat bench or twin buckets with a center console. The interior layout of the Chevy pick-up reflects the emphasis it places on getting the job done. The design is straightforward and practical, and all of the materials are long-lasting but high-quality. The Silverado has physical buttons and knobs instead of showy, high-tech controls, making it quite simple to use the functions. It comes equipped with vinyl upholstery with rubberized vinyl floor covering, a single-zone climate control, and four-way adjustable front seats. The front-row bench in the Regular Cab, which is standard on the WT and LT trims, can only fit three people. Visibility is pretty excellent due to the truck's overall height and the seats' natural positions. The Chevy has plenty of internal cubby storage, which is distinguished by a huge center console bin.

Exterior
6.3/10

The Silverado is a bulky beast, but those looking for a truck with real presence will like its powerful front fascia. The manufacturer's name is engraved on a big horizontal bar that runs through the center of the massive front grille. The enormous front end of the 2023 Chevrolet Silverado HD lacks any kind of appeal. A chin-height hood replaces the razor-like grille, which is flanked by headlights and driving lamps that resemble aliens. With its numerous bed steps and squared-off wheel wells, the heavy-duty Silverado deviates from convention even from the side, however, it is a little more conservative from behind. Both the trims offered in the Chevy 2500HD Regular Cab ride on 17-inch wheels and are now equipped as standard with the innovative Multi-Flex tailgate. The six-function tailgate design will facilitate easier loading, unloading, and cargo access. It comes with door handles, a front bumper, trailering mirrors, rear bumper all in black. In addition, extras like trim nameplates, Black bowtie emblems, additional skid plates, and polished exhaust tips can be purchased to improve the outside appearance.

While WT doesn't even have park assistance as standard, essential functions like blind spot monitoring and the autonomous emergency braking are on the options list. Competition

2023 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD Regular Cab vs 2023 Ford F-250 SuperDuty

The F-250 SuperDuty from Ford is the better heavy-duty vehicle overall. There are two gasoline engines available, and a more potent turbodiesel is optional. The Ford F-250 has more payload and towing capacity than the Chevrolet Silverado. The F-250 SuperDuty has the advantage on the inside with more accessible luxury and comfort amenities and a sizable 12-inch optional touchscreen, despite the Silverado's bolder and rougher exterior. A 475-hp, 1,050 lb-ft diesel engine in the most recent F-250 models, which is available with several engines and gearbox choices, enables the pickup to tow a class-leading 22,800 pounds. The Ford F 250 SuperDuty is available with the same cutting-edge features as the recently redesigned Silverado, including Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and multi-contour heated front seats. Although brand fans will probably continue to prefer the more powerful Ford F-250 over Chevrolet due to its attractiveness, the latter appears to be the better purchase for those who place a premium on performance.

2023 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD Regular Cab vs 2023 RAM 2500

The RAM range of heavy-duty trucks underwent a significant facelift in 2019 similar to the Chevrolet Silverado. With a maximum towing capability of 20,000 pounds when fitted with its 850 lb-ft diesel engine, the RAM 2500 maintains its advantage over the Silverado, but in most other ways it is remarkably similar to its opponent. Equivalent cabin and cargo bed choices are available in both pickups, but the Chevy has a little roomier interior and similar features like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The highly regarded RAM 2500 provides three engine options as opposed to two and has somewhat greater maximum towing and payload limits. Its most potent turbodiesel engine choice produces more interior noise and vibration than the Silverado, but it has greater torque. The RAM also offers an off-road-capable Power Wagon variant and a more upscale cabin with better materials. The final decision will largely come down to personal preference, but we think the RAM has made enough progress to win out, particularly in light of its class-leading ride quality and towing capability.

2023 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD Regular Cab vs 2023 GMC Sierra 2500HD Regular Cab

From the exterior, the GMC Sierra and Chevrolet Silverado appear to be structurally identical. From a visual perspective, the Sierra appears more upscale. This car truly stands out because of the fantastic usage of chrome across the body. In terms of appearance, the Silverado puts up a strong fight, but because it lacks chrome, it doesn't quite stand out as the Sierra does. The GMC Sierra's interior style options include Dark Walnut/Slate perforated leather upholstery. It's difficult to pick a winner because these heavy-duty trucks share platforms and lots of parts, abilities, and dimensions. The Sierra 2500, on the other hand, has a lot to offer if you're searching for a more upscale, opulent aesthetic that complements city driving.

Final Verdict
8.0/10

Yes, we will recommend buying the 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD Regular Cab, it is a carryover model from its previous iteration and receives a thumbs up from the CARHP website in the full-size pickup truck class. Furthermore, the Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD Regular Cab is a capable, comfortable, and powerful weekday worker and toy hauler on the weekends. The Z71 Off-Road package and big-torque diesel engine choice are what we enjoy the most. It has the greatest trailering software available and can tow up to 18,500 pounds. The inside is roomy and cozy and has a tonne of technological and practical amenities. The truck could easily be used as a daily driver if you so desired, but doing so may be expensive due to its low fuel efficiency. Although it occasionally gets overshadowed by some of its rivals, buyers of pickup trucks have always been able to choose the new Chevy Silverado as a worthy option. Thanks to new technology, increased towing capabilities, efficient powertrains, the availability of Super Cruise, and more standard safety features, the 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD Regular Cab model appears to be better than ever.
